The last regular chat for DNN is this evening.  I expect the cameras will stay on at least until the eaglets leave the area later in the summer.

Early morning, eaglets flying and perching and calling for food.  DNF was at the old nest with a fish about 5:30, then she flew around with DN18 in pursuit and landed at the Perching Branch.  DN18 slipped when landing and flew around several times.  DN17 showed up.  I'm not sure the eaglets got any fish.  They hung around, watched the cattle grazing in the fog, until a bit after 9:00, then flew to the BPT and other creek branches.

Black flies are pretty bad this season with eagle chins looking rough from scratching.  On afternoon rewind, I didn't see any feeding, but lots of perching in various locations along the creek:  Claw Tree, BPT, DN12's Tree limb.  And close to 5:00, DN18 perched on one of the remaining nest branches for a nice top-down view.   

Thanks a million to the cam opps for all their work during this interesting and active time with the Norths.

About 6:00 this morning, both eaglets were watching deer grazing below the remaining nest branches -- gives a great view of how high up the nest was!  Look between the DNs for a tiny tan deer -- much easier to see on the rewind because of movement.

DNF brought a fish at about 7:00. DN17, who was perched higher up, got to it first and ate all of it.  DNF left, then the eaglets stayed in the Perching Branches, calling for more food to no avail.  They headed to the creek trees about 9:00.  One eaglet brought something to eat on the Yonder Branch about 9:15.  Another new skill to carry food in flight.

Near 11:00 this morning, both eaglets perched on the Yonder Branch.  DN18 flew to the old nest and picked around, then flew out toward the creek with a RWBB in pursuit.  At 2:30, both eaglets were perched in the Spit Tree.

What type of birds are diving little ones at NN?  Had 2 or 3 diving at one around 6 a.m.  And then relief when both were perched on remaining branch - cute capture.  Now one left there alone and the irritating diver returns.  Fast little buggers, hard to ID them.

White on tails as they fly by.  Don't think they're dark enough for red-wings

Puff, I'm not sure what birds are dive-bombing the eagles now.  First guess would be RWBB males, which are all dark.  Or bluejays, which have some white on tails and are equally brazen.  Let's hope the cam ops catch them in a close-up soon!

Meanwhile, the eaglets are making good use of the old nest as a scavenging site this morning.  Both of them can now fly with food clutched in their talons.  Not live prey, but it's a good start on the hunter-gatherer way.  The dead Yonder Tree and branches is just right as a place to eat and perch.  Not too high, not too low, near the old nest.

Puff -- The birds mobbing the fledglings are Eastern Kingbirds.  They are dark with white underside and white tail tips.  They mob them every season and they're pretty relentless.  Here's a pic I snipped yesterday:

The youngsters are doing their thing this afternoon.  Great closeups of DN17 preening at about 4:00 PM.

The Kingbirds seem to be on the attack again this morning.  One smart eaglet took refuge deep in the branches where the kingbirds can't reach; not great for a pic, but safer!

The eaglets are sticking close together this morning, from perching near the old nest to the  BPT, to soaring about an hour ago.  Parents seem to be elsewhere so far.  No, one of them showed up at the BPT about noon.

Happy 4th of July to Everybirdie!

Sunrise pics with beautiful color, thanks to the cam ops for the closeups.  About 7:00, eaglets met at DN12's fallen limb over the creek for some good leftovers, and a place to cast a large pellet and play with sticks (no pics for the casting and playing).  At 9:00, both were perching in the BPT.  No views of MrN or DNF yet today.

Quiet day so far for the North family.  One eaglet was seen on the Brush Pile at 3:00 and in the Brush Pile Tree (DN17) and Claw Tree (DN18) at 4:00.  MrN showed up at the BPT about 4:15 and DN18 joined them.  MrN flew away to the south about 4:30.  No feeding seen on rewind as yet.
