Breakfish on the broken branch early morning again.  Then the DNs went to the creek and found bits along the bank paths.  Parents on duty -- I bet they are ready for the eaglets to hunt and fish on their own!

Most of the afternoon, one or both parents have been with DN18 in the BPT. At about 1:00 DN18 flew to the ground and picked at edible bits, then joined by DNF on the BP and a bothered RWBB male between them.  Back to the BPT.    DNF left about 2:20PM and showed up at the broken branch with a raccoon carcass.  Eaglets not interested, so she flew the carcass to the BP and ate on it until the cattle herd passed by, when she returned to the BPT.

At 5 AM this morning more of the nest broke and crashed to the ground.  Audio only and no cam investigation so far.  Hope they go exploring soon.

The cam ops gave us a short view of the structure that fell this morning.  No wonder the eagles are sticking to the creek area today! They lost their funny picnic table.   eburg, from the time you gave, there might be video of the falling, depends on where the night camera was pointed.  I will look at the rewind again.

Yes, the breaking, snapping branch and falling crash is there on the rewind.  Someone posted it at the chat screen for DNN.  Go to right at 5:00 AM, just seconds before the daytime color comes back on.

I'm not sorry that this part fell.  There was too much wire mesh and sharp edges just waiting to snag a talon.

Next nest better be in a living tree, and I hope that RRP decides to build a starter to encourage the eagles into a safer location than they might choose on their own.  Dead trees are easier to build in, and the nest would be more open for flying into and out of.  But less stable.  We'll learn more at the ATF in July.  I'll be listening and watching.

STL -- Eastern Screech Owls.  Same kind (probably the same ones) that harassed DNF and eaglets for a duration of about 3 weeks before they fledged.

Morning brings a new challenge -- where to put the breakfish when the nest and supporting branch & structure has fallen?  About 5:30 AM, DNF brought a fish, and DN18 followed but never got any because DNF ate it all.  DN17 arrived to add to the squeeing.  When MrN brought a fish, DN17 went right after it and had most or all of it.  Shortly after, everybirdie was in the creek trees.

Rain again this morning.  Both eaglets were on the remaining nest branches about 6:30 AM.  After that, most activity seems to be DN18 flying here and there, from ground to branches, calling, no feeding.  One quick view in heavy downpour of a parent in the PBT (no pic).  Afternoon may be more conducive to photo ops.

After the rain stopped, the eaglets spent the afternoon perching and preening and grubbing around on the ground for leftover bits.  At about 4:45, one flew from the Yonder snag to the old nest and discovered the bounty of nestovers!  At 5:00, both eaglets are there and a parent is nearby.

More rain late today.  Eaglets explored the old nest, ate bits, flew around, perched on Perching Branch from about 5:00 to 7:00.
