RRP has decided to name the eaglets that hatch from HM & HD in 2023 ..

Since HM laid her first egg on Saturday, we’re hopeful for another egg on Tuesday! Eaglets from this nest will have the designator DH (for Decorah Hatchery) + a long-count number. So the first egg to hatch will be DH1, the second will be DH2, and so on.

Hatch usually happens about 39 days after the first egg is laid, which puts it on or around April 5th – talons crossed!

Congratulations Mom, Dad and babies!
DH1 isnt a name.  Easter will tell if we have viable eggs and young!  I hope all goes well.  What a beautiful pair.

HM snuck EGG #2  in on me.   ;D

* Egg #2 laid on 02/28/23 @ 4:38 pm *

73 hrs from egg#1 to egg#2. That's pretty much like clock work.  :o
HM doesn't give very much indication that she's laying an egg, pretty much like boop, oh' lookey there ...  :)  ;)

You are right, HM doesn't give any notice at all!  ;D

Changeover from HM to HD at 6:00 this morning.  How wonderful to see 2 eggs at N1.

N1 shift change at 8:55 cst, HD taking off .. 2 eggs .. HM back on duty.

HM & HD seem to have their "nest routine" pretty well sorted out already.  :)

DH1 isnt a name.

Shep we are aware you are not a fan of RRP's naming/designation system.
But it is their gig so we respect their decisions.

It's easy to type out here on the forum and if everyone uses the same naming convention here it avoids any confusion about other Eagles, Eggs, Eaglets or Nests that folks watch.

N1 _ HM & HD _ Egg#1-Egg#2-Egg#3 (hopefully) _ Eaglet's DH1-DH2-DH3 when and if they hatch.
OK ?  ;D

A few morning pics from N1 - Our two eggs, HD incubating both eggs, HD's tail markings, and HD to nest with fish

Lisa, that's a great pic of HD flying in with fish!  What time?  About 10:00, I found HM and HD on T1 with another BE soaring nearby, but not the fish.

About the same time, a good pic of HD near the eggs, sore talon in view, then eating that fish on N1.  And earlier, 9:30 or so, HD eating a squirrel carcass on a bouncy pasture branch.

STL
- He has the fish in his talons in your pic!  He flew from T1 to nest with it, and started eating.

Ah Ha, thanks for clarifying, Lisa. I could have zoomed in to see the details.

So, at about 3:00, one of the Hatchery pair got a crow and brought it to T1 for eating.  The crow's fellows followed, expressing their protests.  Must be HD that caught the crow because HM is on the nest.  Crows are really, really smart, and they recognize each other and their enemies, too.  Guard those eggs carefully!
