From RRP's FB page:
21h

HM laid her second egg this afternoon at 4:38 PM. Is she a two-egg layer or a three-egg layer? We'll find out about four days from now.   Based on what we know, we're looking for hatch on about April 5th...although hatch is a process and pip will begin a couple of days earlier. Congratulations to the happy eagle couple!
At this point, we've seen a lot of eagles lay eggs, but HM had the quickest egg-labor I've ever seen! Our camera operators noted that she seemed restless at around 4:03 PM. At 4:37 PM, she experienced contractions, although she remained laying down and the contractions were not as deep as we saw with her first egg. She appeared to lay the egg a minute or two after the contractions began and did not experience, that we could tell, egg lethargy post lay. Watch it here:

STL - Great pics of HM eating the crow!  I remember her bringing one to the nest to eat, when they first came around.  If I were a crow, I would not mess with her!

T40 - Thanks for the RRP post, and the info on Eagle Watching Day.  :)

A few pics from yesterday afternoon I snapped - HM getting ready to incubate her eggs, HM eating the crow on T1, and HM took crow to another tree in horse pasture to finish it off.

DH1 isnt a name.

Shep we are aware you are not a fan of RRP's naming/designation system.
But it is their gig so we respect their decisions.

It's easy to type out here on the forum and if everyone uses the same naming convention here it avoids any confusion about other Eagles, Eggs, Eaglets or Nests that folks watch.

N1 _ HM & HD _ Egg#1-Egg#2-Egg#3 (hopefully) _ Eaglet's DH1-DH2-DH3 when and if they hatch.
OK ?  ;D

I'll have to quit this cam / blog too.
I just cant keep track if HM is Mom or male
Good luck

No, DH1 isn't a name, it's a designation of offspring at a nest that is dedicated to research. It's not Disney.

Congratulations Mom, Dad and babies!
DH1 isnt a name.  Easter will tell if we have viable eggs and young!  I hope all goes well.  What a beautiful pair.

DH1 is both a designation and a name.  Dictionary definition of name:  "a word or set of words by which a person, animal, place, or thing is known, addressed, or referred to."   ;)  :D

Whatever the confusion over designations of which is who or whom, the Hatchery pair seems to be doing a great job of starting a family.  They change shifts, and HD brings fish to HM on the nest, and they watch over the situation from nearby perches like the Y and T1.  It's all good.   ;D

Two thoughts - I've been an RRP follower since 2010.  There's been a set system since 2012(?).  The international organizations and RRP seem to want to cling to the norm.  OK by me - their ball, they get to ref the game.

Second, we/they have had the procedure, the procedure works, let's not work so hard to reinvent the ball.  As what's-his-name would say . . . C'mon man!.
And as I like to say . . . ENJOY!

Hi, all! Just checking in.... RRP decided not to give them actual names, so as not to humanize them. They're not our pets, they are wild birds out of our control. We merely watch over them, assisting only when necessary. So, let's just watch & enjoy! We have cute little fuzzballs to look forward to 😉

A few snaps from yesterday afternoon - HM on eggs, HM on eggs & HD on T1, HD eating on a tree nearby, and Egg#2 still looks pretty clean.

Lisa, lots of activity at Decorah this morning.  Rewind to about 8:15 AM to watch HM gathering grasses on N2B, then carrying a big clump to N1.  There's lots of geese calling all morning, so I wonder if the eagles are "making hay while the sun shines" to remove nesting material and discourage the geese from nesting at N2B.  Last year mama goose nested anyway on the bare dirt with only a few sticks and her own feathers.

HM and HD spent a short while on T1 about 11:00. Lots of twittering and perching very close, but no mating observed. Could be that their hormones are changing to incubation mode instead of egg-producing.
