 Blue-eyed Kitty  ...  27:47       60°  (5:25 pm)  light overcast

Hi Cal and Joho...

Cal...  It's too bad that your neighbors, whichever one it is, don't realize that their cat can be picked off, easily by Coyotes, if they allow it to be an outdoor cat.  I live in the city and there are always Coyotes in our neighborhood, and they are often killing the cats here that are allowed to run loose.  Sad.  Coyotes in a pack will take on dogs too.  There was a case here of a pack of Coyotes trying to chase down a Rottweiler.  Luckily the owner scared them off.

Joho ...   I think what angers me the most is when some people insist on making the whole thing of vaccines and Covid a political statement.  and a "You can't tell me what to do!" statement.  I really have to restrain myself from what comes to mind as an answer.
They are angry and willful and somehow think they are going to hurt me if they don't get the vaccine ...  they don't seem to understand, first of all, what they are doing to themselves and their loved ones.

Oh well ... we are doing what we did last year and staying home and being careful. as much as possible. Take care, everyone.  Maybe, eventually we will get to a place where this is something like living with the flu, and yearly shots.

Good morning ev1.  6:41 hornbill.
Nice start to day here dry little wind and 33° at 8am Nice.
Had dinner at the hungry bear restaurant last night.  Had the special chicken parmesan over spaghettis.   Was good, but not my favorite any time soon.  Should have had their breakfast for dinner.  This was Joan's favorite place to visit.  So I have many good memories when I am there.  The help has changed a lot and is often over worked and surly, but I just keep trying to cheer them up so I feel better when it is time to tip them. Some remember that Joan was a big tipper.  Most don't remember her at all.  Takes away some of my pleasure.  I don't like change and place a high value on consistency in food service.
Good to be here.  Now coffee and cereal waiting.  So CUL EV1 GB

The Fox, A Bobcat, and a Worry - UPDATE January 13, 2022
Bobcat
Bobcat focused
Today, we saw the first bobcat on the WRI property in the 30 years we’ve been here. The closest we had ever come to recording a bobcat on the property was tracks a few yards off the property back on April 18, 2011.

Seeing the bobcat was worrisome. It came walking down the driveway mid-afternoon and sat unmoving beside the garage for several minutes with eyes and ears focused on a small tunnel into the garage just two feet away. Then, it went into a slinky, stalking approach (above) as it rounded the corner of the garage and approached the open door. As it entered the door looking around, it showed the distinctive black and white tip of the tail that says ‘bobcat’ (below). It disappeared into the darkness of the garage for several minutes and then came out the carport door two stalls away. The only way it could get there was through a two-stall long burrow made by woodchucks a few years ago.Bobcat behind
Bobcat's tail

I suspect the fox has been using the burrow to escape the cold and wind of the past week or so, and I’ve been hoping she would have pups there for everyone to see this summer. I found no blood and fur in the area and feel doubly confident the fox escaped because I found fairly fresh fox tracks leaving the garage. Also, the burrow has an exit on each end, and I suspect the fox can move faster in the burrow than a bulkier bobcat can. The bobcat seemed to know what it was doing investigating the garage and burrow, making me think it was making another attempt at a capture after coming close earlier.

When I saw the bobcat go into a stalking stance, I could only imagine the terror this much smaller fox would feel. I wonder if the fox will dare to raise pups here now. However, a thought that gives me a bit of confidence is that the fox may have been dealing with the bobcat longer than I realized. I have wondered why the fox spent so much time the last few days looking with eyes and ears focused intently in the direction the bobcat came from. Maybe the fox is not that easily scared off. Earlier in the day, I wondered why the fox was not here to greet me when I drove in and why I did not see the fox at all for the first time in many days. We’ll see if the fox shows up tomorrow or the next day.

The bobcat was exciting to see, but I hope it does not mean no more fox.

Thank you for all you do.

6:25 Good morning EV1.  Another nice day here.  23° at 10:40.  Trace of new snow.  Grass is not covered yet.  We are warm compared to my nieces home in Long Lake NY.  They were at minus 41 ° yesterday. BRRR. She sent me this news from Florida where she is now.
Got to go for bread and coffee today.  Will try to stop and see Deb and Boss for a few minutes so she can look at my toe.  There is a big hole in the end where Dr. removed the callous and unscrewed the old pin.  It is hard for me to reach and impossible for me to see.  She will help me, and do it right.  She is my Debbie Nurse after all with years of experience.
I will say thanks for being here and CUL.  GB
