An hour ago this video posted on twitter with this post:

Make no mistake about it… firefighters from across SoCal showed up in force today and literally saved the town of Castaic, CA 👨‍🚒🇺🇸

Good Morning Beakers!

Lani, what a beautiful sunset at Seal Island...  Love the picture of Beau and NE31, so happy for them!

oldguy, hope your birthday was a good one! I am watching the video of the ice breaker in Duluth, fascinating. Not quite halfway through it! The meteor crash! Love the pic of Maru, Hana and Miri in the Goeman baths!

Phyl, hope your knee starts feeling better quickly! I had to chuckle when you said Jim had to buy a cane for you. Ed collects canes, so you wouldn't believe how many canes we have around here. I have supplied Mom, her favorite one plus spares!

karen, your house looks beautiful in the snow!

tsk, I picked up my Ozempic refill yesterday, I about fell to the floor when she said it was $665.95. I forgot about the deductible! Last year the first one I got was $445, so the deductible has gone up! I hope the $2000 out of pocket limit for 2025 doesn't get the axe! Maybe Tim will need one of those FreeStyle Libre devices, it could help him know when he can have a sweet!

Snowball fights on Bourbon Street this week!                                                      Casino Beach at Pensacola Beach

PHYL  To adjust your cane properly.  Stand tall arms relaxed at your side.  When placed at your side the top of the cane should rest against your wrist.  Try that.  Cane is used on the side opposite the pain.

LISA  He is weaned off the insulin.  Just Ozempic now .  His A1C came in last night  7.1  LOLOL   Will now see what plan doc has for him at this juncture.  Ozempic certainly not doing as good a job as the insulin which he has been off of for 2 weeks now.

OLDGUY   Sorry to hear about MIL.  Loss of hearing plus poor vision can make life very confusing and scary.  Prayers for her.
YIKES  How do you live without water for 3 days without a warning to stock up?  I'm trying to imagine it.  :o    I always think of a meteorite as being something huge.   Really got caught up in the coast guard video  ;D  Interesting about the orange tabby genetics

LANI  An eagle taking a break on seal island  :)

KB   Boy, when will those fires ever stop  :o   I worry at this point about arson.

CLYNN  A pink morning today  :)  I feel bad for all the snowbirds vacationing down south right now.  LOL   Tim has a flip phone and would live in a cave it that were an option.  ::) ::)

Brrr, once again.

tsk - good point on my walks with Ollie. He being the focus of my attention at least as much as my surroundings. Too bad he hates car rides or he would have loved walking in my childhood woods where we could have walked longer and I wouldn't have had to pay as much attention to him.

Yeah, I believe arson is a big factor at this point. Have to look into the new Sepulveda fire that started just very early this morning. That one is close to Bel Air.

Go to  NN right now to watch dad trying to handle a raccoon carcass.

P

It was interesting to watch him, starting about 20 minutes before the hour.  Cam found him on the ground digging in the tall grass.  Did he want grass for the bole or was he on to something.  It was the latter.  First the mask at the mouth, then the eyes gave it away.  Let's see what is next; too heavy in the entire?

The death of Waylon a 3-finger sloth caused a huge uproar in the TRR chatroom.  :'(
The survival rate of these beautiful baby 3-Finger sloths is so low that it has become heartbreaking for those who follow the cam and donate.
I have cut & pasted TRR posts acknowledging the uproar about the passing of Waylon, and other 3-Finger sloths.

A quick PSA from TRR:
We want to remind everyone that sloths are not pets! Despite their seemingly cuddly nature, they are wild animals that do not belong in our homes. While their friendly demeanor might suggest otherwise, sloths thrive in their natural habitats, not in human environments.

Many people are unaware of this, and that’s where you, our Explore.org sloth fans, come in! We invite you to join our team of educators and help spread the word about the importance of keeping sloths in the wild—where they belong.

By sharing your knowledge and respecting others, we can work together to create a safer, more informed world for both Two-Fingered and Three-Fingered sloths. Let’s make a difference by ensuring these animals are protected in their natural habitat!

PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE FROM OUR ANIMAL CARE STAFF:

Toucan Rescue Ranch has always been incredibly thoughtful and meticulous about the animals we announce to the world. We implore you to understand that all animals you see at our center are rescues, usually from severe circumstances such as collisions, powerline electrocutions, animal attacks, and other traumas.

When you watch Sloth Preschool, you watch animals in a nursery hospital. All sloths are under 24/7 care. Many orphans we care for may have lung issues and underdeveloped organs; the list is exhaustive. All cases require a veterinarian and a detailed treatment plan based on their condition.

That said, we have always had a rule only to announce animals once we know they are stable. However, the difference between Explore.org and Sloth TV is that you get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at animals, sometimes in intensive care. So, sadly, due to this, we may experience an animal's death - even doing everything in our absolute power to save them. Sometimes, nature has another plan in store.

🕊️ In Memory Of
Waylon, 3F Sloth:
With a heavy heart we have to announce that sadly, Waylon has passed away due to his chronic illness. We will miss him a lot but we are sure that he is cheering on his fellow sloths on their path to being released.  :'( :'( :'(

From TRR Mod:
We deeply understand your sorrow over Waylon’s passing, and we share in the sadness of no longer having him with us.

Waylon was a true fighter from the moment he arrived at our clinic. He faced multiple challenges, including recurring pneumonia, fluctuating health conditions, and skin issues that caused him to lose fur. These complications affected his appetite, leading to slower and less consistent weight gain. Our veterinary team worked tirelessly, even hand-feeding him at times, to ensure his stability and give him the best chance at recovery.

Three-fingered sloths are known to be a delicate species to rehabilitate. During his necropsy, it became clear that his various underlying conditions ultimately led to heart failure. We always strive to be as transparent as possible about the conditions and challenges the animals face. However, despite our best efforts and care, sometimes nature has plans beyond our control.

At Toucan Rescue Ranch, we have spent 20 years rescuing, rehabilitating, and rewilding Costa Rica’s wildlife. To date, we have worked with over 200 sloths and currently provide round-the-clock care to more than 30 sloths of varying ages. We’ve expanded our efforts with additional staff and resources to ensure every one of these animals gets the second chance they deserve.

Decisions regarding euthanasia are never made lightly. They are the result of careful evaluation, thoughtful discussions, and immense consideration. It is always a last resort and never used to make space for new arrivals.

Waylon’s story reminds us of the fragility and resilience of the species we dedicate our lives to protecting, and his memory will continue to inspire our work.

LANI    Thanks for the heartfelt statement from TRR.  Its a hard job they have to perform on many sloths, like they say, who were terribly injured to start with.  Great rejoicing when they graduate!

Good Morning/Afternoon Beakers

Lani - Thanks for the TRR info.  So sad about Waylon  :'(

tsk - I got you, now.  I had to look up Ozempic.  I actually thought that it was an insulin pen.  I take oral meds (Metformin) and insulin. That is a good A1C for Tim!

clynn - I just got off the phone with my brother.  He said, you all can keep this snow.  I am going stir crazy!  They got 6" in Mobile.

oldguy - Sorry about your MIL, and about the water problem.

Puff - OK, ok on DNN yesterday.

kb, tig, karen and all - Afternoon  :)

Ready for a nap. Even though I record, I tend to stay up and watch the tennis matches live. Shame on me.
I returned to the dentist today for an adjustment. I'm ready for a nap.

Tnx OldGuy  Camper and I had watched that icebreaker video. Very Cool...

LISA   Love your cute little girl post.    Right. Ozempic is not an insulin but acts differently.  LOLOL  Your brother's reaction to the snow  So funny.  My nephew's wife's parents from Fairhope got the 8" and she is worried about her bee hives.  Don't blame her.  They lost a hive during one of the hurricanes in recent years.

KAREN   Where was that photo taken that you posted?  Looks like some cool art on the walls.  " Who put ice in my bathroom"  LOL
   I see you answered Lisa.

Lisa I kind of missed the great south-land snow event, but I caught the general gist of the debilitating affects of it.

I saw this one and I think it pretty much said it all.    :o   ::)
