The Royalcam nest.
Mom GLG and Dad RLK

Currently GLG is on the nest.
The first check for signs of hatching on the 23rd of January.

Chick calling and tapping could be heard from within the shell.

The egg has pipped on the 24th of January and has been taken to the incubator for prevention of fly strike. This was at 10:20 am if scrolling back on the live stream or watch this highlight clip here:

:-*Today is the Day! Hatching Begins at the #RoyalCam Nest! January 24, 2025
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVuZ9zHjzac

Jan 23, 2025
As hatching nears at the Northern Royal Albatross nest featured on the Royal Cam, rangers from the New Zealand Department of Conservation are monitoring the status of all of the eggs at the albatross colony. At this stage of development, the rangers are looking for signs of the chick starting to break out of the egg (a process called "pipping"). Today was that day!

Now that the egg begun hatching, it is moved to an incubator to protect the hatching chick from fly infestation called "flystrike", and a fake egg will be tucked under the adult. After a successful hatch in the incubator, the chick will be returned to the nest and the breeding season will proceed as normal.

The nest was sprayed with Avian Insect Liquidator. Harmless to birds this product kills the flies who would lay their eggs in the hatching toroa egg given half a chance. The introduced sheep fly maggots hatch very quickly and do a lot of damage to the very vulnerable toroa chicks.

Good Afternoon Beakers

karen - Very pretty historic courthouse.  I need to visit downtown Valdosta!  Looks like a charming lil town.

tsk - Yes, for some reason, I thought Ozempic was insulin pen like I use nightly.  Oh no, I hope your nephew's wife's parents do not lose their bees.  Pretty morning greeting.

BrokenLug - Thanks for the pic of the before and after of the snow down South.  Looking at the bottom pic row of pics of your home affected by fire...wow that first one on the left was not so lucky, and so close to the ones that has no damage.

oldguy - Sorry about the water problems.

kb - LOL, the treat breaker poster.

Lani - Aww, Jupiter.  Ohh, that is chilly temps for your sister.  Thanks for the Royal update.

clynn - Yes, my brother said, nothing is open and the roads are closed.  I love when the lil squirrels do that.  I give in and run inside for peanuts.  Im a sucker!

Has anyone heard from Phyl on how she is doing?

PHYL and BAZI     MIA   BAZI could be " at the Australian Open"  ;) ;)

LISA   Imagine  - all roads closed!!

Spent a bit of time every day this week "purging the basement"   Brought to a really cute Vintage shop near me 6 BIG sturdy baskets I used to have around the house for all previous cat beds.  When we got this little kid, she avoided them all and picked the back of the great room love seat to be her bed. She also loves the back of the small sofa up in my nest upstairs lately as well.  I kept one of the smaller wicker baskets - put some foam in it today and covered with a towel.  Placed it in the great room out of the way.  Not two minutes after she came  down stairs after her afternoon nap, was she curled up in it sleeping  LOLOL

TSK... aw

We saw Flight Risk today. Don't bother. Went to a local pizza shop for pasta. Yum. But... I would prefer to not go there in the evening in the future. Parents let their kids scream while playing on the arcade games. Grr...

Yes... I have been staying up watching tennis too. 2 more nights to go.

Good Morning Beakers ...Happy Caturday !

I've sent my special envoy...
the gentle cat, 'Lady Margaret of Cattington"

Today  cu rrently  23F and clear     H 53F and   Tonight  24F

I have an appt this coming Wednesday PM with an orthopedic /surgeon. Since my right leg is now swollen form top of knee to mid foot.
( I may have mentioned  :-\  ).   The hospital has put the series of images on a CD. Jim will go to their imaging dept and pick it up for me.
The only way I can sit here and keep my R. knee elevated is to stretch my R. leg out from the desk and prop it ontop of the PC processor. Not at all comfortable on two levels.
Sooooo, I'll be an irregular visitor for a bit. Until Doc says and can sit normally at the desk.
Thanks for remembering me.   {{{}}} Take care  🙏 s

Prayers for:  Victims of natural  and Man-made disasters plus those who rescue them. The Fallen / Our Allies in Defense of our country. And   #47.   Police and First Responders.   'Little Gray' and 'Little One' and  all abandoned, abused , lost cats , stray, unloved, homeless  and feral cats.

Good Morning Beakers!  It's Caturday!

Phyl, love seeing Lady Margaret of Cattington, she really looks good for her age! The other picture has to be her baby picture! What a cutie! So sorry to hear that your 'incident' is causing you so much grief! Sounds very uncomfortable, I hope they can get you some relief, I hate that you have to wait util Wednesday!!! 26 now, high 38 today. And windy, of course. Seems like it's mostly windy here...

Lani, I have some of my old cell phones, the Munchkins liked to play with them, one is a flip phone. They were all so small 'back then'. if I remember, the smaller the better. Now they are getting bigger! I guess you have to have a bigger screen if you are going to watch a movie on it! I cannot imagine watching a two hour movie on my phone!  Thanks for the Royal Albie update, so now we are waiting for a hatch!

tsk, we are both purging! When I come across something that needs to go I put it in a container in the back corner of my eBay room. I'll be making another trip to GW probably next Wednesday.  It seems like the older we get the easier it is to part with some things we know we will never use! I just wish I could get Ed to see things the same way... Cats are peculiar creatures, the places they pick to sleep, the food they devour one day and won't touch the next day. And more!

Lisa, I get the big bag of peanuts at Menards for the Blue Jays and the squirrels, I love watching the Jays grab one and take it to the tree and then come back for another.

Harley in the crock pot carrier!                                  All three on the cat tree!

Welcome to CATURDAY morning  :)

Reminder tonight is the start of David Attenborough's series on " Asia" on BBC network.

TIG    We are going to see Wolfman this afternoon.  I'm not a fan of this type of movie but will go.  ::) ::)   Don't have Netflix.

PHYL   There you are.   Such a beautiful Lady Maggie  :)   Love her leg makings and her forehead "M" is very pronounced.  Feel bad Phyl that this injury has progressed.  Painful?  warm to touch?  Take care.  :-*

CLYNN   Cat and the fence  ;D    Do you still have a pretty healthy Ebay business??    I have decided that unless Lulu is in the room, I will not put down her second serving of wet food.   Yesterday's was still in the bowl this AM all dried up  :P  Harley is pulling a Maru  LOL   Boy that is some cat tower!!!  All three enjoying it at the same time.  Good shot  ;D

This is our peanut feeder.

oldguy, thanks for the heads up, I will be sure to stock up! I will go Monday or Tuesday, I hate going on the weekend! I also have some rebate money to spend!

tsk, I have been putting a little more time into eBay, trying to get rid of some things, another way of purging.  ;D  I look the item up and see what it has sold for in the last few months. If one like it hasn't sold I most likely put it in the GW box. If a like item has sold I use that to determine the price to list the item at. I also add the Make an Offer button, which pumps the sales up a bit. I can accept the offer, decline it or make a counter offer. I am rather tired of it so I am trying to get rid of as much as I can. Ed got that cat tower at (you guessed it) DAV, I think he paid $10 for it. It was like new when he got it. Sophie has claimed the top spot as her throne! She likes to look down on her subjects! I think I have a peanut feeder like yours, in the big shed. I'll have to go look for it!

Lisa, Harley loves to get into things, kind of like Maru. Sam likes to play with his pompoms and put them under the throw rugs. And I a pretty sure Sophie is the one that carries the LOL doll around the house (although I have no proof), (yet!). She is also the Inspector General! As you can see, she if testing the cookware!
