As always loved the Juan Brown additional info.  So much to think about.  So much training and knowledge placed on the crew.  Impressive.  Thanks OG getting it to us.

Thank you oldguy for the JB video.   8)

Tsk - Too cold or Too hot on any given day in the contiguous United States.  ;)

I always look at the weather like a glash 3/4 Full.  :)
If it ain't great where you is or how you like it, go to where it is.    ;D

How could there be so much 'disturbed weather' in between the two locations about 1,200 miles apart I ask facetiously ?  ;)

Puff - Weather Underground is my main source of local weather.  The forecasts are locally tailored from the NOAA info.  The data sites are mostly private weather stations (most cost about $500-$800) that direct feed their data to the Weather Underground web site, with communication bursts every 5-10 seconds.  These weather stations can be added to the radar map display.  Go to any location and zoom in, to see what the weather is like at that location.  Rural locations are sparse, but most towns over 2500 people have 1 or more stations.  If you use the map from BL with the general locations of RRP participants, you find out what their current weather is.  ;)

News tonight said pilot landed to hard, fast and short and caused the wing to clop the ground and  caused the wing to Hit the ground and tear off,  No, it’s a technical terms but I guess you can get the idea and we will see you later what is decided if this is true I hate it for the pilot.
Headed for a brief cool down I’m a few days with two nights below freezing after about four days the temperatures will be rising back to the high 60s low 70s. Hope everyone in the Chicago area and other places with subzero temperatures stay warm and safe I can still remember the biting wind coming off the lake and the Chicago River in the morning on my way to work . Brrrr is not even  Cold enough
Anyone else having a nice evening. Seds

I also found it advantageous to look out the window   ::)

No truer words could be said Puff.

If one truly wants to know what the weather is really doing outside do it the old fashion way.   8)

Step outside generally clothed as your local forecast has indicated away from your building.

1st things 1st look up at your USA Proudly Flying Flag and salute it.

Adjust your clothing layers based on the following human readings.

Suck on your index finger and hold it up straight up in the air.
Your wind speed and direction is known right there assuming one knows there homes orientation, very important, N.S.E.W.
Then put both naked palms facing up with arms straight out in front of you for 30 seconds - precipitation type done.

If you do this every morning you'll establish your own personal apparel baseline and become a human weather station at your front door location.

~ Now these are "flat land" Urban, Suburban Rural suggestions ~

~ Mountain locations with elevation need other prognostication tools, but dressing in LAYERS still always apply ~

Did I mention dressing in layers ?
#1 A synthetic wicking layer next to ones skin.
#2 Air is insulation just like snow is - wool is my go to 'middle' layer. (Stays warm even if wet).
(Cotton I don't even know what that fabric even means in winter time anywhere USA).
#3 Shell gear. I'm GORE-TEX all the way as I was a beta tester way back in the day. I'm prejudiced on this one.

Now if you ever have the great fortune of sleeping outdoors in the open in the dead of winter get a really good ground pad and a goose down insulated sleeping bag.

We loose a fair amount of body heat through our heads, so keep your noggins covered.   ;D

I use my go to wool shell ear flapped 'scull cap' lined with turtle fur from Walgreens that Pip bought me years ago.

It's efficiency correlates to it's simplicity.

The most funny looking hat that is thermally efficient and works for you is the one for you.

The look of your hair - hypothermia just doesn't care.   ;)

Gloved _ fingers _ don't skimp.

Footwear_the very most important piece of my winter kit bar none.

I'm already missing digits and pieces of digits on my feet and hands so I'm very susceptible to frost bite these days.   ::)

Tig, great chili! Dinner/dessert sounds yummy!  ;D

Oldguy, thanks for Juan Brown, his explanations are simple and understandable. It's amazing everyone survived. A great crew!... wunderground is a great map...I checked on everyone in our family, I see Salina, KS is -1 tonight.. Mike's in Beaumont, TX.

Thanks BL and Oldguy for weather info...

BL, thanks for weather info and prepping for what to wear when going out in cold weather. It all makes perfect sense. Sadie and I do check the wind on our 2nd floor deck before dressing for our walk.... I had to smile at your "cotton" comment.... sorry about the loss of your digits on your foot... yep, I won't skimp on gloves, socks and boots when I head out in the early morning hours with Sadie. And I wear two winter knitted caps (forget the hair). "Turtle fur" Do turtles have fur?  ???

Good Morning Beakers

Lani - Thanks for the updates from TRR.  Love that good night pic.

baz - Waving at you!  Hope you are warm and cozy, too.

tig - Everything that you made yesterday, sounds delicious.

tig - Wanna know what's funny, the internet kept cutting out all day yesterday, then last night we had none at all.  This morning, working like a charm. I am still having them come out!

oldguy - Thanks for the JB video.

Good Morning Beakers!

We're starting the warm-up today, -2, high 6 for the high. 41 by Sunday!

Lisa, maybe the internet just had to settle in...  ;D Good to hear that it is working now!

BL, I would hate to be a weather forecaster these days!  Thanks for the Little Feat! And hooray for the Turtle Fur... Great old school weather station, your hands!

Lani, sweet baby sleeping with the kittens... Oh, that baby sloth reunited with his Mama! She looked like she couldn't believe her baby was back, love it!

oldguy, thanks for the Juan Brown, we haven't seen him for a while. His videos are very good, his voice is calming...

tsk, I think my 'oversleeping' may be getting to be normal! I have been trying to break my years long routine of getting up at 5:00 for work! Crazy when Alaska is way warmer than we are!!

NEFL - NE31

OLDGUY   Thanks for Juan Brown's report - Always very technical and thorough.

PUFF   I have Wunderground as well as one of my many weather apps.

BL   When I ask Tim what's the weather like today he says " I'll go outside and check"  LOL  You above all would know how to handle the outdoors!  Can't believe you are "missing digits" with all you know.  Maybe happened when you were a naïve young buck  ;) ;)
Like LANI questioned  " turtle fur?" Ah  reading on I see you "explained turtle fur"  :o  Now I need to google  LOL

LANI   What a beautiful good night photo.  :-*

LISA   Isn't that always the way.  I would definitely have them still come out and check your internet connection.

CLYNN  Cute lantern nest  :)   What a shot of NE31  :o :o :o
