Have no idea why the airport just east of me always reports colder than all surrounding areas....oh well, not me.
kb I never really understood why the NWS chose to place their major weather reporting stations at area airports.
In NYC they use a weather station situated in Central Park that provides readings that are more representative of ones neighborhood.
https://vlab.noaa.gov/web/nws-heritage/-/100-years-of-weather-observations-at-belvedere-castle-in-central-park I mean I get why you would want a weather station at an airport for flight safety, but the stations are generally situated in rather poor locations at the airports.
They are in wide open areas with no terrain or trees/bushes and usually very little grass even.
The wind that is reported by the station is generally elevated because there is very little 'ground friction' around them.
Direction will be accurate though.
In summer the high temperatures are usually elevated due to all of the blacktop absorbing and holding the heat. Heat island.
And the heat from jet engines.
In winter the low temps are generally reported lower at the airport again due to the open nature of their location and radiational cooling from the area being so flat and wide open.
And there are (in northern climes) usually piles/berms of snow on the sides of the runways.
Rain, snow, humidity, etc instrument readings/measurements are usually pretty good or better in an open area however.
My 2cents.
