Howdy Beakers! :)

Everyone stay safe and warm!  :)

I've been using Wunderground (Weather Underground) over 25 years - since before it was bought by Weather Company (the Weather Channel).

Puff, FYI, click on the attached screen shot for a tidbit of related info.

PHYL   Lots of snow for you!!!  Hope the roads were OK for Jim.  Funny - snow gloves  ;D

BAZI   Interesting history of Wunderground - Didn't know all that.

Heading soon to see "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at one of our suburban theaters in the round.  My 6th or 7th time seeing this since the 70s when I saw the original on stage in Dublin not knowing then what a classic it would be.    LOL  I love the energy!

What To Expect On The Royal Albatross Cam: March–April | Post-Guard Stage

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOjXZgNsP1I&t=4s

Mar 19, 2021 By the start of March, Northern Royal Albatross chicks have
grown large enough to spend time alone at the nest. At the start of this "post-guard" stage, both parents begin
to spend more time at sea gathering food to feed their chick.

Come April, the adults will only touch down at the nest site for
short visits, often for as little as 10 minutes, to feed their chick. By this point, it's normal for chicks to spend several
days at the nest alone before their next meal arrives.

As temperatures rise, sprinklers are turned on
near nests to help keep chicks from overheating.

As the chicks grow stronger and gain some mobility,
they may begin to explore areas around their nest site. The young birds often make "play nests" near their
natal nest where they may stay for long periods.

Curious juvenile albatross may also visit chicks at their nests.
They don't typically cause harm but may make the chick anxious. Keep watching to learn how the chick will develop into one of the
largest nestlings in the world as it prepares for its first flight.

The guard stage, end of guard stageRLK/A85 standing over his chick.
We can expect to see more of this behaviour as the end of the guard stage approaches.

Good morning Beakers!
Hello Eagles4, Lisa, Ezee, Eburg, Weasel, Jilltosa, Kb, Tsk, Karen, Oldguy, Puff, Eaglesrock, Emyrauld, Lilbro, Blschue, Lori, Clynn, Tig, Baz, Phyl, Peep, Jaspurr, Pink, BL, Bggolden, T40, ssrl, Maxie, Nrstooge, Paulie, jicaji, LB, and All!

BL, I didn't realize Platypus was in the turtle family, new info for me. Thanks for weather update.

The platypus was hunted for its fur, but it has been a legally protected species in all states where it occurs since 1912. Its population is not under severe threat, although captive-breeding programs have had slight success, and it is vulnerable to pollution. It is classified as a near-threatened species by the IUCN, but a November 2020 report has recommended that it be upgraded to threatened species under the federal EPBC Act, due to habitat destruction and declining numbers in all states.

Lisa, glad you're internet is back, but it's good them still come out and check. We've done the same, it's hard to get an appt.

Clynn, enjoy sleeping in  what a precious pic of NE31  :-*

Tsk, I need to read more about Turtles... Have a wonderful time seeing the play. It's one of our favorites too. The last time we saw it was at a KC theater. And then there was the Donny Osmond version by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Phyl, Love the glove/snow post. LOL!

Kb, gorgeous fox

Baz, Never heard of Wunderground before until Oldguy's post... I'll check into that.

The Platypus is an egg-laying mammal. It is a really, really, really cool animal!!  :)

Platypuses are one-of-a-kind. They are in the Class Mammalia, Subclass Prototheria, Order Monotremata, and Family Ornithorhynchidae. It is the only species in the Family Ornithorhynchidae!!

Here's an excellent article about the Platypus from the Journal of Mammalogy, dated April 24, 2019, which says the Platypus is "one of the world’s most evolutionarily distinct mammals":

Waving to Lisa, Lani, and Tsk! Enjoy the play, Tsk!  :D

Also waving to All the Beakers!!

Phew, I am glad I didn't cancel the cable appointment.  There was a blown splitter in the box that was on the side of my home.  The tech said, when they did the widespread maintenance on Friday, that they went into the main box across the street and reconnected the cable, it blew mine.  That is why I was having the spotty internet.  He just left, very nice guy.

clynn - Love the bird nest lantern!  Awww, NEFL kiddo looking good.

tsk - Tim is a good man to go outside and check that weather for you.  Jeff say, I don't know, look at the weather app on your phone.  ;D  Enjoy the musical.

Phyl - Hope Jim made it safely to work in that 6" of snow.  LOL, if you had enough cold!

kb - Pretty fox

baz - Howdy!

Lani - Royal Baby looking good.

karen, Puff, tig, and all - Afternoon  :)

Snow

Eliza Cook
1818 –
1889
Brave Winter and I shall ever agree,
Though a stern and frowning gaffer is he.
I like to hear him, with hail and rain,
Come tapping against the window pane;
I joy to see him come marching forth
Begirt with the icicle gems of the north;
But I like him best when he comes bedight
In his velvet robes of stainless white.

A cheer for the snow—the drifting snow!
Smoother and purer than beauty’s brow!
The creature of thought scarce likes to tread
On the delicate carpet so richly spread.
With feathery wreaths the forest is bound,
And the hills are with glittering diadems crown’d;
’Tis the fairest scene we can have below.
Sing, welcome, then, to the drifting snow!

The urchins gaze with eloquent eye
To see the flakes go dancing by.
In the thick of the storm how happy are they
To welcome the first deep snowy day;
Shouting and pelting—what bliss to fall
Half-smother’d beneath the well-aim’d ball!
Men of fourscore, did ye ever know
Such sport as ye had in the drifting snow?

I’m true to my theme, for I loved it well.
When the gossiping nurse would sit and tell
The tale of the geese—though hardly believed—
I doubted and question’d the words that deceived.
I rejoice in it still, and love to see
The ermine mantle on tower and tree.
’Tis the fairest scene we can have below.
Hurrah! then, hurrah! for the drifting snow!

Water receding from Lake Gramke.  Piper said she could Find High ground and went for a little outing for the second time today she was glad the rain Had stopped  Colder temperatures are getting ready to settle in, but we will not have anything cooler than 27°, which will be only for one evening or rather night.
I just made a mess in the kitchen By overwatering a poinsettia. The water ran through the pot, which was good for the plant that a mess to clean up. Hope the heat will now dry the floor in the barstool  Seat. Have a load of laundry of the new dryer, which seems to be working well and other than that nothing for today I did read Baz’s article on the platypus and found it quite interesting. I have never know much about him other than that they were in existence almost a little too detailed for my brain but interesting thanks,Baz.
Lani, Interesting differences between the royal Albies, and the Elvis, both very sweet.
Clynn, I don’t know what you call that lovely treat you had on the plate in your morning picture but I called delicious and enjoy the whole thing. Sorry for eating it without asking permission very good.
Tsk, Hope you stayed warm, going to and coming from the theater and that you enjoyed the play.
Lisa, good afternoon to you. How are the kitties at the B&B?
BL you are a wealth of information. Thanks a lot.
Phyl, your snow looks very pretty and it’s nice to see the picture but you are right that’s very unusual for your area. My family and friends in that area never mentioned snow if more than a dusting, so I totally understand that things may be a little disrupted until there’s some melting going on or a few plows out. I hope Jim is safe going and coming from work and doesn’t do too much shoveling when he gets home it’s dangerous in the cold to be out with a shovel pushing things you’re not used to, so have him.

LANI   Thanks for the Royals preview of coming attractions  :D  I think of that little chick all alone but then again their life is pretty solitary on the whole.  I hope this one has some friends eventually.   Saw Donny 3 times when he was in Chicago.   He did 2,000 performances in 5 years.  He had a home in one of the north burbs and his kids were enrolled in school here.  That musical is now 50 yrs old!

BAZI  Platypus truly an odd looking creature.

KB  Saw that on FB the other day - the 85 yr old delivering his b-day invites.  :-*

LISA   AMEN   Good thing he found the problem.  YAY

PHYL  Love your covered front porch.  Good pics telling the story.  Are there plows around?
