Great to have a full clutch of 6 eggs at each nest this year.

Intruder goose came to N1 this morning around 10:00, not the piebald goose.  MG defended her eggs while FG was away, then he returned to chase away the intruder.

Early morning, a few deer were seen at N end of the pond, and then a bit later a few more were seen E of the pond headed to creek below the bluffs.  Looked like HD on bluff perch for a quick second before heading out.

Since both goose nests have 6 eggs to watch, there's a toggle set up for easy access.  On the drop down menu Watch Birds, choose Other Birds.  Then choose Decorah Goose Cam to bring up the toggle from N1 to N2B.  See screen cap below.

FG, the male goose at N1, has been away from the nest for most of the daylight hours today.  Long time for this pair.  Pic of MG rolling her 6 eggs at about 10:30 AM.

Do we have names for the pair at N2B this year?  It's the wood chips nest, where the male is away more than present.  The female is sitting tight this morning.  Pic about 10:00 AM of her pulling out down feathers from her body to add to the nest.

Geese use materials availble to build their nests, but these two remind me of The Three Little Pigs story.  One nest of sticks and one nest of wood chips.   :D

STL

I think the easiest naming conventions are the ones below.
At least that's what I'm going to use.   :)

N1MG
N1FG

N2BMG
N2BFG

STL - N2BFG may not always be on the nest like N1FG, but he is always near by.  You can see him in the creek below N2B, just to the left of the view.   There was a lil goose drama a bit ago, and he was right up to the nest. :)

OK BL and Lisa, so FG is the male goose (father) at each nest and MG is the female (mother).  I can use those labels.

N2BMG came off her eggs to honk at the flyby of three geese about 2:00 this afternoon.  And N2BFG landed on the Skywalk shortly after.  Later a starling stopped by the nest and MG didn't react.

N1FG has been off-camera all day, far as I can tell.

The Cottonwood gall on the Sky Branch on N2B.

Looks like a quizzical llama a to me.

Some serious avian action in this tree.  8)

The gall certainly looks like a face looking out at us, BL!

It's cold and rainy at the Decorah nests this morning.
N1MG spread her wings to keep the eggs dry.
N2BMG took a very short break from the nest about 7:00. She was back on the Skywalk just a couple minutes later before returning to the eggs.
A sub-adult BE spent several morning hours perching in one of the hatchery pine trees.

N1MG & FG early morning, one of the Hatchery's on bluff perch, and looks like HD below the bluffs near bluff perch when cam zoomed out.

HD and HM are appearing alone to perch in the Decorah cameras' range, true?  Any confirmation of eggs in a nest?

Geese at N1 had a visitor very briefly early this morning, arrived when MG was alone on the eggs, but FG came quickly to chase it away.

From RRP on Facebook last evening   :(

Raptor Resource Project

We picked up an eagle in distress near the hatchery yesterday. Unfortunately, she died not long after pickup. She tested negative for HPAI/avian influenza, so the veterinarian we are working with will be conducting more tests.

We saw HD today. The eagle we picked up yesterday may have been HM. We don't know whether they had eggs or young.

Shep, where did you get  the idea that the eagle   That died was  sick with Bird flu?    Why  is that  good? Thanks!  I have not read that.

It was not avian flu.  It's also not a given that it was HM.  We'll soon know if it was her if she doesn't return.  Further testing is needed to determine the cause of the eagle's death.  This is the info from RRP.
