Probably the same two BEs perching and soaring and perching together in bluff trees and in a maple near the bridge and pond this morning.

STL, that third pic is the same tree that HM & HD build a starter nest in last season after their nest failed.  It is right behind the house that is on the corner to the left.

A few random pics from Decorah this morning - BE pair perched in the tree behind Willard's house, a lil preening session (noticed the dark marking's on tail in last pic), on the lower bluff tree

Can anyone -or- has anyone definitively ID this pair of BEs spotted recently in the hatchery area as HM & HD ?

My ID skills for HM & HD are not what they use to be for Mom & Dad or Mom & DM2.   :(     :-[

BL - the last pic of mine, that looks like HD.  I could be wrong, tho.  He does have a talon missing on right foot, so if the cam ops could get closer or the BE came closer where we could see, it would be a good ID.  Just my thoughts.

Reality TV with eagles!!  Lisa, you are right about needing close-up views of feet to see if one has the missing talon, and we'd be pretty sure of HD.  Dark tail feather marks often means a young adult. Neither HD or HM have such marks, do they?  But I remember that previous eagles do [did].  And I do remember that HM & HD started a nest in the maple tree in my orange-marked pic last year.

Late afternoon egg rolling for the geese at N1 and N2B.

STL - HD did have brown markings on his tail, and HM had one brown spot in the middle of her while tail under her wings.

Here is an old pic from 3/18/2024 of HD above N1.

That's a great pic of HD's tail markings from March 2024.  Are those dark markings permanent, or do they disappear when the adult eagle molts tail feathers?

I am not sure if that is some permanent marking or not, but HD has had some brown marking on his tail since he showed up at hatchery in 2022.

Early morning the BE pair was perched on bluff perch, the female left and soared around the hatchery and headed out West. There appeared to be an intruder goose around, and FG flew out after it, cams spotted FG in the N1 tree somewhere.  BE pair perched in a familiar spot N of N2B. Female looks to be the larger one on left, flew out, cams switched to pond and you could see BE heading from that direction soaring around the hatchery.
