Hi Beakers!

Busy here... I have a small break in the middle joint of middle finger. My primary doc did the xrays, then sent me to the ortho, where a review was done and a splint was put on, and who set a followup appt for Friday with hand specialist, after swelling down some, for further review.

Later gators.

Sorry Baz
Well,  well...   At the last minute we decided to get glasses... in Red Wing, MN and then drive to Lansing, Iowa. We are at the top of Mount Hosmer. As I got out of the car I glanced at our dark car window and saw the sun peek through the clouds! Camper got some great shots of that reflection. We were also able to get some quick views through the breaks in the clouds.
I saw 6 BE nests and many birds on the way down.
I'm sure it will be a longer drive back home... Camper will want to stop and take more pics, now that he is awake. Lol.

Here's my picture, it doesn't look like it looked through the glasses...

In the end we had lots of cloud cover that moved in  f-a-s-t... so no viewing. However, it did get darker--almost dusk and the birds got more settled. That's all.  :(
If the skies were as clear as they were earlier this morning we'd had 80% coverage of the sun.
Although, I did see the 2017 Totality Nashville in August and a partial  in my Junior year of high school . So , ;)

CLynn-Cute snap of the Norths in their eclipse glasses---LOL

Baz-is that all the doc said--'a small break in the middle joint of middle finger. ' ?

We should have gone a bit northeast of here tsk.  I followed along with Chicago 12 station, they were in Indiannapolis.  Not much happening here.  We knew it was getting a shade darker, but never lost the light. :-\  What I did note was the drop and then rise of the temp; it started out at 67 and went down to  63, and now back up again, now at 69.  Ah ha - the ole solar heat trick.  Next one is suppose to be 20 years (?) away.  I guess I'll miss that one.   ;D

Phyl  I'm not aware of what percentage was left here, and it did get strange darker and temp fell - But even at 80% gone there is a lot of energy and light still in the old sun!  The darkest cover on TV that I saw was from Arkansas - Once it was totally eclipsed there was nothing left but dark.  Maybe lasted about 2 -2 1/2 minutes before the sun started peek out with its corona.  Another nice job done was at the Indy Speedway.

CLYNN    LOLOL  Eclipse glasses on the eagles   ::)   Like KAREN suggested, it must have been a total coverage for Mom

KB   Lulu was on my lap as the living room started getting dark - She just seemed a bit restless with head up and looking around.

BAZI  Maybe ortho can just set it and do a small "cast" - likely a splint til it heals? Are you in a lot of pain?  And it is your non dominant hand right?

TIG   Can't wait to see Camper's pics. :D

PUFF    It just got dark like we were going to have a storm.  Lots of light still available at 95% cover.  The total coverage lasts 4 minutes.  I was watching the cities with total coverage fom Mexico to Cleveland to a City in NY and quit when it got to Maine  LOL

Since I wasn't driving on the way back I could look harder. I counted at least 15 nests. We have another hour to go...

Lani - Thanks for the bear study update, beautiful eagle!

tsk - Croissants for all  ;D  You have been busy today.  The kebabs were delish with the fresh cut pineapple on it.  Reading your comment to Puff, that is what it looked like here when eclipse happened, like it was going to storm.

Phyl - Yay, you got your meds.  I hope they work quickly!

clynn - Too funny, the DNN eagles and their eclipse glasses.  Did you take the pic while you were wearing the glasses?

Lori - Hi there  :D  Aww, kitty and pup have their glasses on too.

baz - Oh no, sorry about your break in the finger.  I hope it heals quickly.

tig
- Sounds like a fun day!

Puff - I saw one of my FB friends who lives in the NE say that their temp dropped 10° when eclipse happened.

karen - Will be happy to share a kebab with ya.  I took a peek just a bit ago.  I did see that Mrs T left for a while, maybe to get herself something to eat and the kiddo's looked cold.  She came back and warmed them up.  I saw a fish in nest, not very big but it was something.  One thing I did notice, there was no bonking from the older one to the lil one!  Thank heavens!

Humph - Nobody told me!
-
White Sox started their game early today, 4 p.m.  Playing the Indians today at their home field - that's in Cleveland, for non fans.  Well, what they did was let the fans in early, at ?? o'clock.  Game was scheduled to start at 4 o'clock, again if you didn't know, that's unusual.

Why do that?  Because of the eclipse!  Fans, and players, and personnel took a break at about at about 1:30 / 2:00 p.m. for viewing the eclipse that was close enough to give them a good view of the action.  Now that was quick thinking, smart business, too.  I might even have gone for the extra action if I knew.

BTW, Sox are already losing, again, in the  5th inning 2-0.

P

Ooops now 4-0.

TIG   You live in big time eagle country  ;)

LISA  Thanks for the Trempealeau nest update.

Tim will take Lulu in to vet tomorrow mid afternoon for what I suspect is an ear infection - excessive head shaking and ear scratching

Hoping these little ones return to my feeders on a regular basis soon! I put out the 'nectar' fresh on a regular basis even through the winter season, because once in a while a stray will come and feed! :)

Puff - Bet it was nice to have your window cleaned!  I know you enjoy your birds!

Phyl - I bet Maggie got special treatment yesterday for her birthday! :)   I hope you got some help and a good prognosis from your Doctor today!  Hello to Jim and hope he is doing well.   So nice that you enjoyed driving along the coast and Hwy 101 in Ca! :)   Thanks for links and 365 - cute Cuckoo!

Baz - Thank you so much Baz!    I see you have a broken finger - hope you are not in a lot of discomfort and take care and hope you heal completely and quickly. {{Baz}}

Lani - The Sloths are so sweet and special! :-*

Clynn - Thank you Clynn - I do love the painting of the Mission my Dad did, and I will always have it displayed in my home! :-*   Great pic of the Iowa girls!!

Tsk - My Dad painted quite of bit of other subjects;  Buffalo, horses & wagons (western stuff) and a mixture of other stuff.  He would paint from a photo!

Kb - Like your morning pics!   Interesting about Ollie!!

LisaG - Your chicken kabobs are beautiful and they actually look too pretty to eat!! Lol!! Bet they were so delicious!!

Tsk - You had a busy day! Hope you got to enjoy the Eclipse.  I had 2 of our TVs on to watch the Eclipse.  We didn't see much of it over here where we are.  It didn't even get dark.   Let us know what the Vet does to help Lulu's ears.

Clynn - Cute pic of the DNN family by Sue Bruhling! ;D

Puff - I watched coverage of the Eclipse as it went through a bunch of states, Texas, Arkansas, Indiana, Ohio and of course in Mazatlan!  It was wonderful and so fun to watch on TV!

Karen - I see you 'stole' one of LisaG's kabobs, well I took one too! Lol! ;D

Tig - 15 nests!!!! Wow!!!!

Lori - Sending happy thoughts in your direction for Grandma Luetta's birthday today and also for tomorrow for your Grandma Helen's birthday!  Also sending hugs, thoughts & prayers for the passing of your Uncle Russ.

Beakers have a good night.

{{{Phyl}}} sweet calling sounds of the Cuckoo. It reminds me of the sounds of the Cuckoo on the Estonia osprey cams  :)..... thank you for history of eclipses.... I hope you can find some relief with your meds today. Feel better soon.

Puff, During eclipse here, the temps dropped to 42, sky turned the day a bit gray, no bird sounds, it was very still. I think we'll miss the next eclipse..  ;D

Clynn, beautiful planter of Baby's Breath.... A lovely piece written by Eric Hansen for IOWA! Great pics! ... Love Smb's Decorah North's pics! LOL!   8) ... beautiful eclipse pic.
