Evening light and beautiful eaglets.

DNF settled in with the eaglets on the Ladder Branch at dark, still there at midnight.

DN18 fledged this morning at about 11:51 a.m.  18 flew across the pasture and then over the tree line on the other side of the stream.  I lost sight at that point but then heard crashing near the nest and 18 flew out from under the right side of the nest and flew over to the Claw Tree (to the left of BPT).  Here is DNF and 18 (circled).

Thanks, Ginger. I was watching earlier today and missed the fledge! I only see one on the nest now but can't tell which one.

Great news that DN18 fledged this morning!!  Thanks to Ginger for the pics and notes.  I watched it on the rewind and am delighted to see DN18 and DNF perching near one another in the Claw Tree.  Claw Tree is north (left as we look) of the Brush Pile & BP Tree.   The first flight was pretty long, crossing the pasture twice.  Eagles are awesome.    ;D

More pics from this morning before DN18 fledged.  Who knows if we will see both eaglets back at the nest, together or separately.  In past years, North fledglings have hung around being fed by the adults until later in the summer. They have sometimes come back to sleep at the nest, too.

DN 18 returned to the nest around twilight (9:15 PM CT) last night 06/11/24 to roost for the evening.

It was a perfect 10 point landing in the LZ.  8)

DN 17 was definitely asking him/her where the heck did you go ?   :o

Thank you Buddy's Mom for the UTube vid.   :)

The D's taking in the sunrise today ..

-edit to add-
It looks like DN 18 has got the hang of the take-offs and landings pretty good already.
He/she flew off the nest up pasture to the north at around 6:50 AM nest time this morning and landed in the very top of another tree on the camera side of the pasture maybe 50-75 yards upstream.   ;D

I really hadn't noticed how dead the nest branch is until it greened out here in the north valley.   :o

I'm glad they are fledging now because one bad storm and the whole shebang could come down.

I really hope that doesn't happen and I know it's an Oak tree and all, but still that's a lot of nest weight leveraged out away from the main trunk on the Y nest branch.    :o :o

DN 17 seems pretty antsy this morning branching back and forth from the nest.

I think he/she might fledge today .. check out what this whole flying thing is all about and hang out with/explore the valley with her sibling.   :)   8)

Thanks for the narratives, BL.  Actually, it was a fludge.  The branch broke so 17 had to fly.  Great job recovering though.

Thanks for the updates, BL and Ginger. Wishes for safe exploring by these two beauties! I hope they'll stick around for a while!

Yippee for DN17, finally fledging this morning after watching DN18 make several flights from branch to branch and away from the nest and back.
Great pics and notes from BL and Ginger.  I've been watching the rewind over and over trying to see who went where and when.  It's confusing.

I believe a few minutes before DN17's fledge, DN18's branch broke and she-he flew away across the pasture to unknown location (only to join DN17 in the Spit Tree at noon).  I think DN17 was already taking off when that branch snapped.  Still pics are hard to determine, but someone with large-screen could see on video.  DN17 was perching in the Spit Tree (is this T4?) about 9:30 after a flight from unknown nest-side-west location across the pasture.

There's a whole lot more to unravel, with maybe MrN bringing food to DN17 after ground capture, flying to the nest, and more.

I can't unravel anything for you, STL ;) - but I do love that pic of the fledgling buddies!❤️

STL -- Spit Tree is T2.  T3 IS BPT.  T4 is the Claw Tree

Not long ago DNF brought a fish to the nest.  DN17 flew in and claimed it.  Then, DN18 arrived but didn't attempt a steal.  So surprising to me that they both quickly returned to the nest when food arrived.  In past seasons eaglets haven't been so quick to learn this.
