TSK... LOL. I like a lot of those "fishes" you mentioned. I was only listing the ones I can catch here.  :o
We slept in... then a trip to the pharmacy, the resorts and then back to town for the gift cert. at the ice cream shop (ahem). Oh, and we stopped at a lodge where they make their own donuts every day. I'll have one for breakfast tomorrow. Hopefully I will feel well enough to get up early and "go get 'em".
We just finished about a quarter of a watermelon. I usually eat it plain or with maybe a sprinkle of sugar. Camper loads his with salt! My Dad did the same. You know what they say... LOL. EEK!
We got sprinkles for about 15 min. this afternoon. Pretty thunderstorm clouds surround the lake at sunset... but nothing much doing.

Happy birthday Karen! I hope you had a lovely day, doctor appointment went well! Great photo of you!  :-*

Hi Everyone,
It's been a crazy few days. I hope everyone is well.... Aly and Dewey left mid-afternoon. We packed up a U-Haul for her to pull and the movers will be here at 10am in the morning to pack up her furniture, boxes, etc. She is going through Vegas right now and has another hour before she reaches the motel. We're exhausted, Mike went to bed at 7, and I'm getting ready to call it a night. Thank you all for you emails and TLC. We'll be happy when she reaches Medford. She didn't get the house. Even though she was first on the list, they rented it to someone else. Aly is going to complain to the Real Estate board, this is the 2nd time she was first on the list and they rented to someone else. They didn't even do a check on her qualifications or anything. This noon they tried to talk her into renting an apartment instead. Sweet Eagle Dreams and I'll catch up with everyone late tomorrow.

Bluebirds, 2nd clutch 2023 Nesting Season

6 eggs laid 4-25-23
Hatch 5-1-2023

This photo taken 5-24-24 3:54Pm
Looks like there's only 3 of the original 6 laid.

We are looking at CR-52, 53 and 54.

Photo enlarges when  left clicked upon.

Again, time sneaked by the humans.  :(     I'm speaking of 'fledging'.
At the time the above photo was traken, the three
were due to fledge any day thereafter.   As busy as we are it would have been easy to miss the dramatic action

Since 2002 Jim and I have been providing nesting boxes for the Eastern Bluebirds of Tennessee.
As well as making available meal worm feeder, seeds and a safe enviorment for them to rear their fledglings and live all year long.
These are cheery and amusing birds to watch. And, a joy to help during this time in our area of constant construction due to the mass migration from the Western United States into The Deep South.
I have endeavored to keep a ‘scientific’ method of documentation. I use a ‘scientific’ naming system similar to what is used in the monitoring of the raptors.

I hope you enjoy them  as much as we  do  tacking,  documenting and 'providing' for them.

Our backyard is the very best place to view bluebirds in Old Hickory Hills. **

The Eastern Bluebird was chosen for TWRA's Watchable Wildlife license plate because it is a common Tennessee bird that people have benefitted by putting up bluebird boxes.  This small thrush is a year round resident and can often be seen hunting along roadsides from a fence or low perch.
The breeding range of the Eastern Bluebird extends across the eastern half of North America southward into Central America. The northernmost nesters migrate to the southern part of the breeding range in winter.
The brilliant blue color of the male, the delightful call and familial behavior make the Eastern Bluebird one of the most popular songbirds in Tennessee. It is a permanent resident, though some birds may move short distances south from their breeding areas to avoid very cold temperatures.
Description: This medium-sized songbird has a large, round head, and a blue back, wings and tail.    The chest is orange, the lower belly is white, and the male is brighter than the female.Adult male: a brilliant blue above and rusty orange on the throat and breast, whitish belly  Female: gray-blue above and dull rust on the throat and breast, whitish belly  Juvenile: similar to adult female but grayish with a speckled breast  (May-August)

Length: 7"
Wingspan: 13"
Weight: 1.1 oz
Voice: The song is a soft musical cheer cheerful charmer melody. The call notes are raspy and scolding.
Similar Species:
    • No other songbird in Tennessee has a blue back and orange breast.

TSK... all how each was raised I guess. My preference: 1. bass 2. crappie 3. sunny 3. northern 4. walleye (by accident)

KB ... yep. Hanging plants on ground in shade; umbrella laid across/under chairs

I've been fighting a wet cough since last night. I took an allergy pill. Maybe it was being out in the (smokey?) wind for 6 hours yesterday and sleeping with a window open (I'm not used to that).

Totally taste is a matter of how you grow up/where you grow up.  Rocky mountain born and bred, you know I was fishing and eating rainbow at the age of 3.  (There is a proof of said somewhere in ancient collection of old photos.)  About 8 or 9 we moved to about 1 mile from Lake Michigan and North Avenue Beach.  Fishing about  2 or 3 times a week.

Fresh and tasty all the way.  Perch, smelt - yummy!  Other proof of ventures:  salmon in Alaska, King crab also.  How about Belize, Bay of Fundy?  Tongue in cheek show off:  Had fresh catch from Ketchakan prepared and shipped back for Christmas appetizers - What an expensive show for the fishers of the family.

It's all in the company, the preparedness, the memories.  Just not the same "flavor" from the Supreme Fish Company in suburb Chgo.  Just recalled my Christmas special - my mother-in-law's fresh, cold, Italian marinaded 10 fish (?) salad.

Mostly great memories of people and fresh flavors.  Y'all have started the memory machine.  :o   :'(

Now there's another happy, tasty, memory Tig.   How about fresh watermelon cooling to "icy" in the mountain streams while we trek and fish.  So grateful that these fatastic memories can still be resurrected and enjoyed.

Good Morning Beakers!

High 87 today, possible stray shower/thunderstorm. Don't trust the radar, it looked like the rain was passing us by, then the wind whipped up a frenzy and the rain came down! Cat was working on planting my flower bed and had to leave! Spent most of the day at Kays, we got all of the glass packed up for Debbie to take, the last dumpster will be picked up this morning. The realtor is coming this morning and we will finish packing Debbie's things today. She will pick up the U-Haul tomorrow and has two guys coming to load it. The car has been sold (I took a couple of pictures of Kay's car for Kelsey, she loved that green Honda...), the real estate taxes have been paid and she has the information she needs from the bank. We are almost done...

Puff, no one has mentioned catfish! My Grandpa caught a lot of catfish in the Wabash River! There is a restaurant on the Wabash River in So. Illinois, where it meets with the White River, called Twin Rivers. They serve a catfish filet, freshly caught by fishermen who camp along the river.  Delish!  Here are a couple of pictures of Twin Rivers, the 2nd one of the worst flooding in 2017:

Phyl, the Flyway looks beautiful this morning! Love seeing some of the Bluffs!  I love what you and Jim have done for the Bluebirds... Will they have one more clutch this year?

Lani, angels are traveling with Aly and Dewey as their new adventure begins! My prayer is that she will find a place quickly now that they can meet her and see that she is exactly the person they want in their house...

karen, great picture of you on your 85th birthday! And it was a good day!

E4E, yes, our insurance is very good! We haven't had a claim for over 23 years, and then it was just a small one. Last year it was all the hail damage- roof, deck, shed, cars, and the year before it was the privacy fence. I am waiting to see if my premium goes up this fall...  ::)

tig, so was your fishing adventure a success? I imagine peace, just floating on the water...if the bugs aren't too bad...

kb, that Mama and baby gorilla, just too sweet, she was kissing him...

Lisa, can't wait to see pics of the kids today!

tsk, I remember when you used to always be posting the same time as I was! And as I am previewing, there you are!

nr thanks for the good news that there are ospreys nesting in the WF nest and there are 3 eggs! Finally! Can't wait to see the orange fish from the Mall lake! It should be pretty well stocked by now!

Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away. ~ Unknown

some bounce

We had a mild thunderstorm go through last night. I slept in this a.m. Still feeling yucky. I stayed on the couch with my knees up on pillows all evening. My swollen ankles improved a bit. Vacation time means more sitting and standing and heat than I'm used to.
I'll head out for a few hours this a.m. before it gets too hot and possible storms later.
