All the grief and trauma of Dad's loss has hit me hard with Harriet's disappearance.   :'( :'( :'(  I know I'm not the only one.
You are not alone, angelolady. I feel very sad about the SWFL situation, and it has brought back all the memories and heartache of Dad Decorah's disappearance. The reality in both, though, is that the remaining parent is a hero! Still hoping for a miracle for the SWFL eagles and their followers.
They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth. ~ Henry Beston

Our pair has been perched in these trees most of the afternoon W of the hatchery, and around 1:19pm., they copulated.

Shep, I agree about the owls.

The Red Tailed Hawk was back to work on the carcass in the creek early this morning. Sunlight showed off its red tail perfectly.

Morning pics from Decorah - Had a hard time deciding if this was a sub-adult, or something else like osprey, in the end I went with sub-adult, RTH in creek eating again, and goose in 1st bluff close to Trout Run Rd.

Colorful sunrises all around the Iowa area for Valentine's Day, and some rain, too.

Geese are calling here and at the North's valley today. Migration beginning.

Work on N1 continues. No egg yet.

It's a windy Wednesday in Decorah - HM arrived at nest first this morning, with HD showing up a few minutes later.  Both flew out.  HD arrived back at nest with a food gift for HM.  She seemed to approve.  Rabbit is still in nest, as it looked like both were preoccupied with maybe someone in the area, and they both flew out.

Quote from: RRP Cam Page
Egg-Laying: Decorah Eagles
2023 marks HD and HM’s first year here, so we don’t have a nesting chronology for them yet. In general, eagles at this latitude usually begin laying eggs between late January and mid-March.
The eagles we watch in Decorah generally lay eggs in mid-to-late February, although first time pairs often lay a little later and move earlier in their second and third year.

The nest bole at N1 sure is looking like it's getting ready for something ..  ;D
The egg laying history of HD and HM is just unknown.

We're all on their eagle time now. Trust the Eagles.  8)

The earliest recorded egg laying in this area was by Mom & Dad and it was at N1 in 2012 on 02/17/12.

Nest records attached as .pdf below.

Now this raises a Decorah Eagles naming convention question ?

If HM and HD lay 3 eggs and 3 eggs hatch in 2023 are these Eaglets going to be named D40, D41 and D42 ?? -or- are they going to be called H1,H2 and H3 ?? -or- ....

They will be "D's" from N1 after all, but they are not MOM's D's.  ???   :-\

I may have to revise my nest record keeping for 2023 and make new separate records for N4/Mom/DM2 and N1/HM/HD, but it depends on what RRP decides to name HM & HD's offspring from N1. Clear as mud ay'.  ;) ;D
