Adventures at the North's valley today.  It appears that MrN spent the night in the trees near the Brush Pile. Not sure where DNF was.  I think MrN was near the Brush Pile with a bluejay flitting around at about 7:30 AM, and it might have been him again on a snag sticking up from the Brush Pile at about 9:30AM.

In the afternoon, things got really interesting. A kingfisher perched on the Brush Pile about 1:30. Then about 3:00, a visiting sub-adult BE flew from the creek trees to the nest and spent about half an hour there. It's a large bird, so could be a female, guessing about 4 years old, unbanded. She picked up a stick and moved it, then perched and preened on the Ladder Branch before flying back to the creek area. She ate a fish from branches in the Claw Tree area, then moved to the Brush Pile and was still there with the IR cam turned on.  Cam ops got some wonderful closeups.

More pics of the visitor.

No sign of MrN or DNF all afternoon.  What will tomorrow bring?

Last night a visitor roosted with Mr. North and DNF.  The visitor flew in after Mr. N. and DNF were already there (and it perched above DNF).  At around 1:26 a.m.  Mr. N. awakened, turned left, saw an owl approaching, vocalized and immediately dove off. The owl chased and both flew back across the screen as the chase continued (I'm assuming that it was Mr. N. chasing the owl at that point ??).  In the morning DNF flew off and the visitor stayed for awhile before making a failed fishing attempt.  It briefly sat on the stream bank and then flew to the Brush Pile snag for a brief time before flying over to perch in a tree to the left of BPT.  It was there for awhile and then Mr. N. came along and chased it off.  I don't think it was the same eagle as the nest intruder that we saw this afternoon.  The one this afternoon is just gorgeous!  Tonight it's roosting on the left-side perch branch next to the nest.

Mr. N., DNF, and Visitor last night.

Visitor perched on tree to left of BPT.  Drying off from its fishing attempt.

Intruder roosting on left-side perch branch.

Ginger, the story is complicated!  Great video of the owl and chasing.

One more pic of the visitor just after dark, closer view.  The camera is on highlights since about 7:00 this evening, and that always makes me suspicious of something dire.  I will be happy to be wrong when morning comes.

Yep, Shep, snowy for sure all around the area.  The camera came back live around 11:00 this morning.  Couple pics.

Remarkable closeups of the creek bank this morning showing Canada geese and an eagle.  Might be from the ground camera near the nest.

DNF brought a large chunk of partially frozen, mystery red meat to the nest at about 1:00 and spent an hour eating at it.  I have no idea what this could be.  Closeups don't reveal any features like feet, tail, head, etc.
