Decorah North Eagles 2023
« on: January 01, 2023, 12:58:19 PM »

Happy New Year to everybirdie!

It's a good day to work on the North nest.  MrN has an area behind the nest for gathering leafy branches. No holidays for eagles.   ;)

Oops, look at the deer again, Phyl, those are antlers. Probably a yearling buck.

Red squirrel raiding the nest for corn husk material for its own nest!  Do both male and female squirrels make their nests?

Sorry to post this here, but thought someone might also have experienced this problem with not receiving notifications even though "notify" is turned on.

Has anyone experienced this over the last few months?
If so, is there something I need to do, other than to contact Amy and add to her already busy schedule?

I, and others, had this problem a few years back, and Amy was able to get it fixed.

Thanks so much.

Phyl, thanks for the info about squirrels usually sharing nest-building.  One of the red squirrels is gathering material on the nest now (12:45 PM).

Great pics of the Norths on the Love Branches last night.  They did some nest work at daylight, bringing leafy branches from the area "behind" the nest. After they flew off, the little creatures started showing up.  No pic, but a kingfisher on the Brush Pile about 8:15 and a flock of geese feeding around 11:00.

Ooohhh, a young eagle perched on the Stump near the nest.  Could it be one of the eaglets from 2022?  DNF brought new cornstalk to the nest, then hollered at the visitor and flew at it to chase it away.  Both perched in branches not far from the nest, not sure how close to each other.  Rewind to about 1:15 for the action.

Phyl, wonderful closeups of the wild turkeys!  But I think you missed the beard hanging down from the chest -- that's almost always a male.
These birds were in the pasture not too many days ago. Someone, probably Ginger, speculated that it's a flock of bachelor males from this year's hatching.  I'm going out on a limb !  ;) ! and saying this is the same bachelor group.  All of them appear to have beards.  More pics.

My son hunted wild turkeys, and we agreed that the long, stringy, gray beards look kind of like graduation tassels that hang from a graduation cap.

One pic of MrN on the nest. Then he flew to the Scary Tree to watch the turkeys.  They stayed around for an hour or so.

Hummm. I did a varification and info said 'hen'.
Oh well.
I thought that was a loose feather since it hung so very low almos on the chest.
