Mónica, our new Sloth Nanny!

With a background in Biology, Mónica began her journey with us as a volunteer, helping with animal feeding at our Sanctuary in Heredia. She then completed a three-month Wildlife Care Internship at our Release Site in Sarapiquí. Now, she has joined our Nursery Team, where she will work alongside Guiselle to provide exceptional care for the sloth babies under our protection. Together, they will create a nurturing environment to help these little ones thrive!

IMPORTANT NOTE: We now have four medical student volunteers supporting our Sloth Nannies. All Sloth Nannies and volunteers are properly trained to feed and handle the sloths. We do not encourage direct interaction with the animals unless you are a trained professional. Remember, the ultimate goal is to return these sloths to their natural habitat.

Lula arrived at TRR after being found next to her mother, who unfortunately passed away. Clyde, 2F Sloth: Clyde has shown consistent growth, excellent appetite, and an adventurous personality. If you see a sloth moving around the structure, moving from top to bottom and all over the place, look closely as it's most likely Clyde!

TayTay, 2F Sloth: Tay Tay has been gaining weight consistently and maintains a healthy appetite. She has begun spending more time outside in the trees as she is now getting ready to graduate to Sloth Elementary!

Waylon, 3F Sloth: Waylon keeps eating on his own and gaining weight! He has a tremendous appetite and he demolishes every leaf presented to him!

🕊️In Memory Of:
Miztli, 2F Sloth, and Buki, 3F Sloth: These two remarkable orphans arrived at TRR after surviving tragic circumstances, but unfortunately passed away from their injuries a few weeks after arriving at our clinic. Although you might not have met them officially (but you may have seen them on the porch), we decided to include them in the update as a testimony to their resilience and as a reminder that wildlife rehabilitation can have its ups and downs.

Ken, 2F Sloth: We are absolutely heartbroken to announce that Ken has unfortunately passed away. He encountered several health issues on his path to recovery but ultimately passed away due to a parasite. We will miss him greatly but we are sure that he is cheering on his fellow sloths on their path to being released.

A friendly reminder: We are a critical care facility - Even though you do not see this on camera, the animals are under 24/7 vet care.
