📺 SLOTH TV

🦥Sloth Preschool Update:

NEW ARRIVAL:
Waylon, three-fingered sloth:
Waylon was found by MINAE after his mom was hit by a car. He arrived to us in a fragile state and has had some lung issues resulting from that trauma. He is currently receiving antibiotic and nebulization treatments, and has an extremely reserved prognosis at this time.

NEW ARRIVAL:
Wyatt, two-fingered sloth:
Wyatt was found orphaned after his mother was hit by a car. Luckily, he arrived to us in stable condition and is growing well. He will soon be big enough to graduate to Sloth Elementary!

Beanie, two-fingered sloth: Beanie’s hind limb mobility is increasing with regular physical therapy and acupuncture treatments! Despite this, our Vet Team has decided that Beanie is not a good candidate for release. It is expected that she will join our other resident sloths as a permanent member of our Sanctuary. Beanie only needs $100 more to fully fund her CUDDLY Campaign! → https://bit.ly/BeanieCUDDLY

Fiesta, two-fingered sloth: While Fiesta is still considered a critical care patient, she is strong and growing fast. She is officially spending nights outside of an incubator and is off nebulization treatments. Still, has a reserved prognosis.

Bruno, two-fingered sloth: Bruno is eating better and gaining weight! He is officially spending nights outside of an incubator and has been growing well. Still, has a reserved prognosis.
Tulip, two-fingered sloth: Tulip is eating well and growing fast. She is almost ready to graduate to Sloth Elementary!
Nevada, two-fingered sloth: Nevada is healthy and stable but has not been having regular bowel movements. We are monitoring her consumption.
Pixie, two-fingered sloth: Pixie is growing fast! She has a reserved prognosis due to her size but is otherwise healthy.

🌳Sloth Elementary / High School Update:

GRADUATE:
Rose, two-fingered sloth:
Rose has officially graduated to Sloth Elementary! She is enjoying climbing with her fellow classmates.
JJ, two-fingered sloth: JJ has been keeping up with his classmates, climbing and eating well. He is stable and has a voracious appetite!
Mimi, two-fingered sloth: Mimi is navigating the Sloth Playground extremely well. She is still a bit shaky on the rope bridges but climbs branches with ease!
Moose, two-fingered sloth: Moose is staying active and enjoys climbing with his classmates! He has had some reservations about being weaned off smoothie, but we are working on it.
Grover, two-fingered sloth: We observed some nasal secretions from Grover, so we started him on nebulization treatments. Otherwise, healthy and nearly ready to start spending more time in an outdoor enclosure!
Phoenix, two-fingered sloth: Phoenix is currently receiving nebulization treatments for some lung issues. Otherwise, healthy and almost ready to start spending more time in an outdoor enclosure!
Elmo, two-fingered sloth: Elmo is still in the process of weaning off smoothie. He is almost ready to start spending more time in an outdoor enclosure!
Binx, two-fingered sloth: Binx is ready to start spending more time in an outdoor enclosure! We are still working on some confidence issues, but this big girl is slowly gaining her independence.

🎓Sloth University Update:

GRADUATE:
Marina, three-fingered sloth:
Marina has graduated to Sloth University! She is enjoying a diet of fresh guarumo and cacao leaves daily.
Natalia, three-fingered sloth: Natalia is enjoying the independence of her prerelease enclosure and a variety of fresh leaves. She can’t wait to get back to her wild home!
Myrtle, two-fingered sloth: Myrtle is improving but still not stable. She is being monitored by our Vet Team and provided with supportive treatments when needed. Weekly blood studies are being done to verify she’s healthy.
Ken, two-fingered sloth: Ken was moved to a bigger, taller enclosure and hasn’t been seen on the ground anymore. Yay Ken!
Roo, two-fingered sloth: Roo is making progress and gaining confidence. He grows more daring every day, exploring more of his enclosure!
REWILDED: Spike, two-fingered sloth: Spike is officially #backinthetrees and doing great! We have been monitoring and tracking his progress using Apple Airtags.

A friendly reminder: We are a critical care facility - Even though you do not see this on camera, the animals are under 24/7 vet care.

🥀In Loving Memory:  🙏   😢

Elmo, 2F sloth:
We are all absolutely devastated to announce that our beloved Elmo has passed away. We observed nasal secretions and breathing issues late last week and immediately started him on nebulization treatments. Since his arrival, Elmo had lung issues and developed pneumonia several times before, especially as a baby. These repeated infections caused a chronic condition called lung fibrosis, which left his lungs weakened and scarred, and caused him to be more susceptible to infections. Sadly, this particular infection was too much for his already weakened lungs to overcome. He passed in his sleep three days after we began treatments. The quick progression of his illness and his subsequent passing has rocked our care staff; we are grieving along with you at this tragic news.

Sweet Elmo, rip little one, please say hello to Robin and Reggie   😢

📺 SLOTH TV
🦥Sloth Preschool Update:

NEW ARRIVALS

Bonnie, 2F sloth: Bonnie arrived to us alongside Clyde, both newborns brought to MINAE Guapiles office. Bonnie’s story is missing a lot of details and we do not have much to share other than she is as newborn as they come. We have noticed some irregularities on her x-rays so we will be closely monitoring her development but for now her behavior is indicating stable health. This little one has a reserved prognosis at this time.
Clyde, 2F sloth: Clyde arrived to us alongside Bonnie, both newborns brought to MINAE Guapiles office. Clyde was found alone, on the ground for 4 days before neighbors intervened. Good-intending locals tried feeding him cow’s milk before surrending him to MINAE, so he has had some digestive issues but so far has been stable. Still, due to his tiny size he has a reserved prognosis at this time.
TayTay, 2F sloth: Our neighbors in Sarapiquí, Costa Rica, found TayTay after her mother was tragically killed in a domestic dog attack. She had miraculously survived unscathed. She is stable aside from some mild digestive issues we have been treating. Still, she has a reserved prognosis at this time.

Waylon, 3F sloth: Waylon’s condition is steadily improving! He no longer needs daily nebulization treatments and his appetite is increasing. He has even started eating leaves like a big sloth! Despite his progress, Waylon still has a reserved prognosis due to his fragile state.
Wyatt, 2F sloth: Wyatt is doing great! He is healthy and recently hit his goal weight, so he will soon be graduating to Sloth Elementary!
Beanie, 2F sloth: Beanie is growing well and has begun transitioning onto the diet we provide our Sanctuary sloths. She is nearly ready to graduate to Sloth Elementary, but we want her fully transitioned to a captive diet before we move her.
Fiesta, 2F sloth: Despite some irregular bowel movements, Fiesta is doing well! She is stable and enjoys spending time with her Sloth Elementary classmates
Bruno, 2F sloth: Bruno is also officially out of the incubator at night! He is growing well and has been maintaining a healthy apetite. He is stable at this time.
Tulip, 2F sloth: Tulip is happy, healthy, and progressing quickly. At the rate she is growing, she will soon be ready to graduate to Sloth Elementary!
Nevada, 2F sloth: Nevada is sassy as ever and growing quickly. She has been maintaining regular bowel movements once again and eating well.
Pixie, 2F sloth: Pixie is growing fast! She is starting to develop a feisty attitude and we suspect she has been influenced by her big sister Nevada. We are proud of her progress, but she is still spending her nights in an incubator and remains with a reserved prognosis until she gets bigger.

🌳Sloth Elementary / High School Update:

Rose, 2F sloth: Rose is doing well, but has had some nasal secretions. Currently receiving preventative nebulization treatments until that has cleared up. She is otherwise healthy and active.
JJ, 2F sloth: JJ has had some nasal secretions but is otherwise healthy. He is receiving preventative nebulization treatments until this clears up. As one of our most needy juvenile sloths, we are working on getting him more independent from humans.
Mimi, 2F sloth: Mimi is doing great! She is healthy, active, and growing fast.
Moose, 2F sloth: Moose has hit a stagnant period in his weight gain. Due to this, we have delayed his weaning process to get him back on track with extra feedings. Otherwise he is stable and active.
Grover, 2F sloth: Grover’s nebulization treatments have suspended and he is doing much better. He is progressing well in his weaning process and spending days in an outdoor enclosure.
Phoenix, 2F sloth: Phoenix has been fully weaned off smoothie! He is spending longer periods of time in an outdoor enclosure, gaining independence, and maintaining a healthy appetite towards his leaves.
Binx, 2F sloth: Binx was weaned off smoothie! She is spending more time outside, but we are still working on her independence. In the meantime, she is sharing an enclosure with Phoenix until she is confident enough to be alone.

🎓Sloth University Update:

Marina, 3F sloth: Marina is gaining confidence and navigating the branches of her prerelease enclosure with ease. We are confident that this little lady will make a great release candidate in the near future!
Natalia, 3F sloth: Independent Natalia loves her large prerelease enclosure where she has all the fresh leaves she can eat. She will soon be ready for release!
Myrtle, 2F sloth: We have amazing news about Myrtle: her supportive treatments will end on Friday!! That means this growing girl is anemia-free and ready to continue her rehabilitation journey! For the next 1-2 months our amazing Release Site Vet will monitor her closely for any reappearance of anemia symptoms, and if all goes well, she will be next up for rewilding.
Ken, 2F sloth: Ken is doing great in a much larger enclosure! He is spending more time climbing and has been enjoying a varied diet of fresh leaves.
Roo, 2F sloth: Roo is making great progress! He is maintaining a healthy appetite and is more active than ever.

Sloth TV update - Sweet Paul  :-*

We are thrilled to share that Paul's recovery journey is progressing wonderfully, showcasing his incredible resilience and strong desire to return to the wild where he belongs. His spirit and determination have been truly inspiring to everyone involved in his care.

Paul’s charred and torn skin is still being treated with a combination of antibiotics, regular antiseptic cleanings, and tilapia skin grafts. This innovative treatment not only facilitates blood flow to the wound site but also significantly reduces the risk of bacterial infection, promoting faster and more effective healing

His shoulder is healing well, and we are committed to taking him for daily exercises to help him regain his strength and mobility. These exercises are crucial in ensuring that Paul can eventually thrive in his natural habitat again.

Your generous donations are vital in providing Paul with the care and resources he needs. With your continued support, we can help Paul recover fully and return to the wild, where he truly belongs. Thank you for being a vital part of Paul's journey to recovery and freedom!

🐽 Meet TayTay! This little popstar arrived to us from Sarapiquí, Costa Rica after her mother was found dead. Tragically, the pair had been attacked by neighborhood dogs.
😢 Miraculously TayTay had escaped to a nearby tree and was unharmed, but this vulnerable newborn was only days old and had just survived the most traumatic ordeal of her life. We were unsure if she would survive.
💖 That was a few weeks ago and we are happy to report that TayTay is thriving under the care of our skilled Vets and Nursery Staff! She is still small, so we are closely monitoring her progress daily.

Robert Fuller - "Filming a sloth mother and baby has long been on my bucket list and when I was invited to travel to Tranquilo Bay in Panama, I leapt at the chance. I started to investigate what I would need to do to film them. Sloths are notoriously slow and spend much time sleeping or resting, so allowing a plenty of time to achieve shots of behaviour and movement would be important."  https://viewpoints.dji.com/blog/uncovering-the-secret-behaviour-of-animals-and-birds-without-disruption

📺 SLOTH TV

IMPORTANT NOTE:
We have a juvenile male three-toed sloth with a broken arm who has been spending a lot of time on the playground for rehabilitation exercise. Despite his young appearance, he is old enough to be independent so he is not a part of our nursery class. But because we have had a lot of inquiries about him, we wanted to introduce Theseus! His injury stems from a serious fall during a storm that resulted in the fracture of his arm. Stay tuned on our social media later this week for his official announcement and the launch of his CUDDLY Campaign!

🦥Sloth Preschool Update:

NEW ARRIVAL Opal, 2F sloth: Opal was brought in by SINAC just this week after she was found alone, clinging to a fence in Guacimo, Costa Rica. So far she has been active, responsive, and seemingly healthy but only time will tell. We are closely monitoring her and providing regular health checks until we know for sure that she is stable.

Bonnie, 2F sloth: Bonnie has been doing better, but her elbow may be dislocated. We are hoping to get her to a specialist this week for a second opinion before we begin any treatments. Still with a reserved prognosis at this time.
Clyde, 2F sloth: Clyde had nasal secretions, so we started him on preventative nebulization treatments and so far he has been responding well. Other than that he is stable. Still with a reserved prognosis at this time.
TayTay, 2F sloth: TayTay has started to be weaned onto smoothie! She is still spending nights in the incubator due to her small size, but is in good health. We are closely monitoring her progress.
Waylon, 3F sloth: Waylon is progressing well! He has started eating more leaves and exercising regularly on his structure. He is still spending nights in the incubator and has a reserved prognosis at this time.
Beanie, 2F sloth: Beanie’s transition onto a captive diet is taking a lot longer than expected, as she still prefers smoothie. We are working on it!
Fiesta, 2F sloth: Fiesta is almost at her goal weight and will be graduating to Sloth Elementary in the next couple of weeks! Our Vet Team is keeping a close eye on her.
Bruno, 2F sloth: Bruno is growing well! He is stable and getting plenty of exercise.
Nevada, 2F sloth: Nevada has had some nasal secretions, so she is undergoing preventitive nebulization treatments. Other than that she is stable and growing well!
Pixie, 2F sloth: Pixie is officially spending nights outside of the incubator with the other babies! She is growing so fast and we are extremely happy with her progress.

🌳Sloth Elementary / High School Update:

GRADUATE Wyatt, 2F sloth: We are so excited to share that Wyatt has officially graduated to Sloth Elementary, although we think this little loner would have preferred to stay by himself! Wyatt is having a hard time getting used to being with other sloths, but this is a good thing, as adult wild sloths are very independent. His climbing skills need some practice, but he is healthy and growing fast.
GRADUATE Tulip, 2F sloth: We are so excited to share that Tulip has officially graduated to Sloth Elementary! Unlike Wyatt, she is thrilled to spend more time around the other juvenile sloths and has been very enthusiastic about climbing.
Rose, 2F sloth: Rose’s nasal secretions have cleared up and she is stable once again. She has already started the weaning process and is doing very well.
JJ, 2F sloth: JJ has officially finished nebulization treatments and is stable once again. He is being weaned off of smoothie and spent his first day in an outside enclosure with Mimi!
Mimi, 2F sloth: Mimi is starting to be weaned onto a leaf diet and she recently spent her first day in an outside enclosure with her buddy JJ!
Moose, 2F sloth: Moose is gaining weight again and growing well. We have restarted his weaning process and so far so good!
Grover, 2F sloth: Grover is doing great! He is almost entirely weaned off smoothie, but has to gain a little more weight before we can fully transition him to leaves. He is spending an increasing amount of time in an outdoor enclosure.
Phoenix, 2F sloth: Phoenix was displaying some respiratory symptoms, so we have started him on nebulization treatments again. Due to this, we have temporarily halted his outdoor time to ensure his quick recovery.
Binx, 2F sloth: Binx has hit a stagnant period in her weight gain so we are back to supplementing her diet with smoothie. She is doing much better outside and gaining more independence, but still prefers the company of classmates Grover and Phoenix.

🎓Sloth University Update:

REWILDED Myrtle, 2F sloth: We are so proud to announce that Myrtle was successfully rewilded this week! Her bloodwork came back healthy and she showed no signs of anemia. In addition to a clean bill of health, Myrtle had been trying to escape her caretakers for weeks–this girl was ready to go. We will be tracking her movements and behavior using a telemetry collar and a microchip for the first couple weeks to ensure she is doing well.
Marina, 3F sloth: Marina is almost at her goal weight to be released! She is so ready to be #backinthetrees!
Natalia, 3F sloth: Natalia only has a few months left until she hits her goal weight! She is healthy as can be and very independent.
Ken, 2F sloth: Ken’s leaf intake is being closely monitored by our Vet and Animal Care Team, as his weight has plateaued. His behavior is promising, as he is independent and showing aversion towards human contact.
Roo, 2F sloth: Roo is recovering from some digestive issues and is back to eating like a champ! Healthy and active.
