Hi, Sloth TV fans!

I thought it might be nice to pop in and write our Sloth TV viewers! A quick introduction: My name is Zara, and I am one of the people behind the camera at Toucan Rescue Ranch. I have been a part of TRR for a long time and have been fortunate enough to help transform TRR into the place you all have grown to love today!

Before I get too far into my note, I have a cute story! Did you know I actually started Sloth TV in 2015!? Yup, I used a webcam and everything! I would arrive every morning. Set up the porch, get the sloths all happy with leaves and fun things to climb on, and then strap a webcam to the back of a rocking chair. I would stream it on YouTube with Leslie's home Wi-Fi (talk about sloth slowness). Sloth TV truly comes from humble beginnings. Seeing it come alive on such an incredible platform as explore.org has been a dream come true! If you scroll enough, you can find some of those original Sloth TV recordings on our YouTube page!

As I have watched Sloth TV grow with explore.org, my team and I have developed those lovely featured comments we pin at the top of our page. And, of course, we read your comments!

As someone who has been doing this work for a long time, I know how upsetting it is to lose an animal you have fallen in love with. I have been telling these stories for years for Toucan Rescue Ranch, and it never is easy.

As the person in charge of our communications, marketing, and storytelling, I often tell my tiny super team to focus on telling the core of our mission - to rescue, rehabilitate, and rewild animals. But equally as important, it is to educate the world about our work. We are a rescue center and quickly turning into a critical care hospital. As a result, we receive extremely sick animals and, consequently, deal with death. That is the nature of our work and the sad reality of our field.

We bear the crucial task of being a voice for the voiceless, and through our various platforms, we have an opportunity to shed light on the plight of wildlife rescue and conservation. It is true that if we do not share both sides of our work, life and death, we only tell one side of the story. It's incredible to witness how harrowing stories have ignited people to want to be a part of positive change.

My policy has always been honesty and transparency - because of this, we have, through the years, developed the incredible community we have today. TRR has always been a nonprofit open to sharing and involving our community and supporters in our efforts. In a big way, it differentiates us from others.

Sloth TV on explore.org is very much a part of our storytelling. We are always so impressed by our viewers - whether that be your attention to detail, support, ideas, and compassion toward the animals we fight for. It has been fantastic to get to know you and watch your love for sloths grow. As a free online streaming service, we understand if you need to take a break from watching Sloth TV - it can feel heavy losing a favorite.

With that said, TRR will continue to be here, working tirelessly for these animals. I promise to continue to share their stories. And we will always be honest and transparent with what happens along the way.

I ask that the Sloth TV community continues to be a space for positivity, supportiveness, and compassion as we welcome 2023. Please continue to have room in your hearts for the newcomers that will arrive and those that will leave us too soon. And finally, to understand the nature of our work and remain supportive of our team and the animals.

With much love,
Zara Palmer
Marketing Manager

She was found on top of her mom, who passed away. MINAE (Wildlife police) brought her to our Release Site. She was transferred to our Headquarters, where she will be as part of our Saving Sloth Together Program to be eventually released. She has been eating well and doing great.

Sloth Pre-School Updates:

Geo the two-fingered sloth: he is doing good, he didn't have an appetite, but now he is getting better, growing and gaining weight.
Landon the two-fingered sloth: he is strong and healthy as always. He has been eating more solid food lately.
Coco the two-fingered sloth:she is doing great, eating well, and gaining weight!
Belen the two-fingered sloth:She has been with diarrhea, but she is a fighter and doing her best to get better. She is now having nebulizations.
Robin the three-fingered sloth: He is good, eating leaves and milk. He has been with a good appetite.
Pax the two-fingered sloth: He is pretty well and active. Eating leaves and milk.
Noemi the three-fingered sloth: It’s been hard to make her eat, but she is active and doing good.

Sloth Graduation Update:
Holly the two-fingered sloth: she is good, eating a lot and exercising. She is improving greatly, gaining weight, and being very active at night.

In Loving Memory:
Pistachio: We are sad to share that Pistachio has passed away. We noticed a decay in his condition. And, despite our efforts to stabilize him, he didn’t make it. The necropsy results show that he had malformations on his skull and vertebrae that were incompatible with life.

Our team will never forget Pistachio and the many great memories he gave us.

A friendly reminder: If you have any suggestions or questions about our operations, explore.org cameras, or programs, please email [email protected] or [email protected]. We'd like you to keep our WhatsApp line open for our receptionist to attend to our daily operations. Thank you, and happy viewing!

TRR ROBIN - unable to climb
Male | Small | Baby
San Josecito, Heredia

Many of our followers might already know Robin, the Brown-throated three-fingered sloth.

Today, we are sharing his story. The wildlife police brought this lovely guy in December 2022 as a tiny orphan, still with his umbilical cord around his arm. During his first weeks, he received nebulization treatment after showing up signs of pneumonia. Thankfully, his lungs got better with time.

He has been under our care for a few months now.  As he grew up, our Vet team noticed Robin had some anomalies on his fingers and feet. After doing x-rays, they confirmed he has several congenital malformations that affect his mobility. Due to this, it is difficult for him to open and close his claws properly. Sadly, this makes Robin unable to climb as a normal sloth would.

Because of Robin’s condition, our Vet team has determined that the best for him is to stay in our sanctuary as a permanent resident. Here, we will give him everything he needs to have a happy and healthy life.

You can help us care for Robin as he grows up. By donating, you will be helping us to cover the costs of his treatment, food, and general care.

(1) Medical/Medicines: X-ray, bloodwork, nebulization.

(2) General Support: bucket for handling; wild leave transport costs; heading pats, goat’s milk, blankets.

REWILDING ANNOUNCEMENT:
Zuko, a three-fingered sloth, arrived due to electrocution and will be released on March 14. He is from the north of Costa Rica! He will be driven to a wildlife ranger's office to be reintroduced into the wild in a familiar habitat.

NEW ARRIVALS:
Ziggy, a three-fingered sloth
, was found alone in an area without trees or food and probably got lost. He was dehydrated and hungry, but he is eating well.

Sloth Pre-School Updates:
Geo, 2F Sloth
: doing good, eating well, and gaining weight

Coco, 2F Sloth, and her friend Geo, the two-fingered sloth, are doing great.

Landon, 2F Sloth: Landon has been struggling lately but is improving with treatment. At the moment, he is under vet supervision. As you’ve noticed, he has been having bubbles and foam coming out of his mouth due to minor ulcers. Our vet team is investigating what could be causing this. Not to worry, he is still eating, and his response to treatment is favorable.

Pax & Liana, 2F Sloths: are doing well and receiving treatment. They both are under vet supervision due to the same symptoms we are experiencing with Landon. They both are responding well to treatment.

Roo, 2F Sloth: Too is doing well! He is exploring and eating well. We are happy with his progress.

Robin, 3F Sloth: he is doing fine and receiving physical therapy for a better quality of life.

In Loving Memory - We are sad these babies did not make it due to different issues.  :'(
Pele, a three-fingered sloth: has passed away from stomach torsion.
Shanit, a three-fingered sloth: has passed away due to pneumonia.

A friendly reminder: We are a critical care facility - Even though you do not see this on camera, the animals are under 24/7 vet care.

PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE FROM OUR ANIMAL CARE STAFF:
Toucan Rescue Ranch has always been incredibly thoughtful and meticulous about the animals we announce to the world. The animals you see at our center are all rescues - usually from severe circumstances such as traffic accidents, electrocution from power lines, the illegal pet trade (suffering from malnutrition, abuse, and so forth), and other problems such as deforestation. With all this in mind, everyone must understand that each animal in our care is recovering from said incidents.

When you are watching Sloth Preschool, you are watching animals who are in a nursery hospital. All sloths are undergoing treatment and are under 24/7 care. Many orphans we care for may have lung issues and underdeveloped organs; the list is exhaustive. All cases require a veterinarian and a detailed treatment plan based on their condition.

That said, we have always had a rule only to announce animals once we know they are stable. However, the difference between Explore.org and Sloth TV is that you get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at animals, sometimes in intensive care. So, sadly, due to this, we may experience an animal's death - even doing everything in our absolute power to save them. Sometimes nature has another plan in store.

Robin getting stronger everyday :-*

Sloth Preschool Updates:
Antonio, 2F Sloth: He's been gaining weight fast. He will be graduating soon!
Roo, 2F Sloth: She's very active and has a great appetite.
Robin, 3F Sloth: He has a great appetite and eats many leaves. His mobility has slightly improved. Remember, you can support him by donating to his CUDDLY campaign!
Gonzo, 2F Sloth: Has a good appetite, currently with a diet of milk and leaves.

Coco, 2F Sloth: She's graduated and is now hanging out with Pax, Liana, Landon, and Noodle at the Sloth House!

Jeannie, 3F Sloth: She sadly passed away due to severe anemia and blood clots in her heart and liver.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Robin, a beloved three-fingered sloth. Robin succumbed to his condition despite our best efforts to ensure his comfort and quality of life.

Robin's malformations have had a significant impact on his heart, kidney, and liver, greatly diminishing his chances of reaching adulthood. To further comprehend Robin's condition, we are conducting an extensive biopsy report. This research aims to shed light on the prevalent malformations observed in these crucial organs. By delving into Robin's case, we aspire to acquire a comprehensive understanding of his condition and its implications. This knowledge will be invaluable in our ongoing research within the Saving Sloths Together program.

Throughout Robin's time with us, we strived to provide him with the best care possible, cherishing every moment we had with him. We are proud to have given him a fighting chance at life, whereas he would not have survived in the wild for more than a few days.

His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and we will continue our commitment to preserving and protecting these incredible creatures.

Reminder to all viewers:
We are a wildlife rescue center, which means ALL of the animals you enjoy on our explore.org cameras are rescued from various serious situations - whether that be electrocution, car accidents, domestic animal attacks, illegal pet trade, the loss of habitat, etc. We keep an important message at the end of all of our updates from our dedicated animal care staff to remind new and old viewers alike of the nature of our work.

We want to reiterate with the passing of Robin that we look to the explore.org community to maintain grace and compassion towards not only the animals, but our staff, who are fighting daily to keep them alive. We have been doing this for nearly two decades and know, at a very intimate level, how hard it can be to lose an animal. What you do not see is the 24/7 care we provide to give each individual a fighting chance at life.

You are all witnessing a unique, private, and behind-the-scenes look at what it takes mentally, emotionally, and physically to rescue, rehabilitate, and rewild injured wildlife. This job is not easy and is arguably some of the world's most challenging work. As we continue to show up for these animals and nature, we all cope differently with the emotional impact of this job - Please remember this when sharing and commenting within this community.

"Our human compassion binds us the one to the other - not in pity or patronizingly, but as human beings who have learnt how to turn our common suffering into hope for the future." - Nelson Mandela

May we keep Robin and the many animals who have come through our care in our hearts and minds.

💗From all of us at Toucan Rescue Ranch

It was very bittersweet seeing the babies we have lost on 60 minutes. Millie as well, she looked so beautiful.
RIP Millie, Landon, Teddy  :'(

Millie was such a gorgeous sloth, her beautiful round face and cute nose, and her flowing mane, she was perfect ❤️ She really lit up the screen here 🦥 Landon had some wonderful closeups too, and Teddy was a star 💜💚 And seeing Nosara released and so big was wonderful!

I hope that TRR will receive some extra support from the recent media exposure.

Donate & Support Rescued Sloths:

In 2017, Toucan Rescue Ranch and The Sloth Institute Costa Rica came together to form Saving Sloths Together (SST), a Costa Rica-wide project seeking greater opportunities for sloths in need. By combining each organization’s skills and knowledge, we can improve the sloth rescue, rehabilitation, and release process in Costa Rica. This alliance utilizes scientific expertise, dedication, passion, and decades of experience to provide the best program for every sloth needing help gaining a second chance at a life in the wild.

Why do Sloths Need Your Help?

Sloths at Toucan Rescue Ranch are rescued for various reasons. Common rescues include electrocution from powerlines, car accidents, dog attacks, and human encroachment, such as deforestation and the illegal pet trade. Often, orphans suffer from injuries and the loss of their mothers from such accidents. Babies are usually found abandoned by their mothers for unknown reasons (likely the mother was involved in a casualty).

A unique component of the SST program is the ability to take a hand-raised, orphaned sloth and give it a second chance at being wild. The concept of releasing captive-raised sloths back into the wild is a feat that has rarely been done with success. However, this program’s combined expertise and resources have proved that sloths don’t belong in cages but #backinthetrees because they were all #borntobewild.

Help the Saving Sloths Together Program:
Donating to the 8th Annual Sloth Ironman Games will directly support the rescue, rehab, and rewilding of orphaned sloths at Toucan Rescue Ranch! All donations are tax-deductible.

Sloth Preschool Updates:

Ken, 2F Sloth: We are still monitoring him, but he is doing great! He is growing fast and staying active.
Elmo, 2F Sloth: He is showing signs of anemia and not gaining appropriate weight. We are providing treatment and monitoring him closely.

NEW ARRIVALS:

Binx, 2F Sloth: Binx arrived to us in surprisingly great shape after being found with her deceased mother. We are carefully monitoring her, but so far she has been very active and has a great appetite.
Frankie, 2F Sloth: Frankie was found as an orphan. Despite being on her own for a few days, she is currently in stable condition. She is maintaining a healthy weight and is relatively active.
Grover, 2F Sloth: Grover is a premature baby who was found abandoned and alone on the ground. He only weighs 380 grams, so he spends most of his time in an incubator, but you might catch an occasional glimpse of him on the porch during feedings.

GRADUATION:

Roo, 2F Sloth: Roo is doing great! Stable and maintaining a healthy weight. Active as always.
Myrtle, 2F Sloth: Myrtle is as spunky as ever! She is active and keeps her caretakers on their toes. She is almost ready for Sloth University!

IN LOVING MEMORY:

Nara, 3F Sloth: Our sweet Nara caught a serious case of pneumonia, and after a few days of being monitored around the clock, she sadly slipped away from us. We are devastated. We know you all love Nara as much as we do, and it breaks our hearts every time we have to share an update like this.

Newbie
Phoenix, 2F Sloth: Phoenix was abandoned by his mother. We suspect he has some vision issues, but more testing needs to be done to determine his level of sight. So far he has been in stable condition, eating well and gaining weight.

Sloth Preschool Updates:

Grover: He's already started eating leaves, is active, and is steadily gaining weight.
Elmo: Growing, adapted well to having smoothies, quite active.
Binx: Slowly starting to eat leaves, active, and growing gradually.
Ken: Eats quite a few leaves, growing very well and gaining weight.
Frankie: Eating well, started transitioning to smoothies.
Phoenix: Very big and active. He spends a couple of hours a day in the almond tree to exercise.

FYI: The rescued sloths and birds are given the names of their rescuers or the area in which they were found.

Sometimes, nature has another plan in store.

Sloth TV cam

Parker tries to chase the squirrels off when he sees them, but doesn't do much to the rat. The squirrels eat a few pieces then leave, and there are almost always leftovers at the end of the day. But the rat parked itself and ate for 20 minutes, so he may find himself eaten out of house and home if he continues to allow it.  :-\

📺 SLOTH TV

🦥Sloth Preschool Update:

Moose, two-fingered sloth: Under 500 grams, seems to be adjusting well to his diet (goat's milk) and gaining weight.

Mimi, two-fingered sloth: The vet team had to amputate her hand until wrist level to prevent the risk of infection. She has the most reserved prognosis and hasn’t been gaining weight. Hopefully, it will start to perk up after the surgery.

Grover, two-fingered sloth: The wound on his leg is nearly healed. We have left it without a bandage, so the injury is ventilated.

Binx, two-fingered sloth: Seems stable, eating well, and gaining weight; we are closely monitoring her bathroom breaks.

Elmo, two-fingered sloth: Although he has progressed, he still has anemia and is getting weekly iron and cholesterol, closely monitoring his bloodwork.

Ken, two-fingered sloth: He will be moved to Sloth Elementary for the next stage of his rehabilitation process.

🎓Sloth University Update:
Coco, two-fingered sloth: In one of our largest sloth pre-release enclosures, consistently eating the most. Coco is likely the next sloth to be released.

Pax, two-fingered sloth: Pax needs to gain more weight before release in one of our largest sloth pre-release enclosures.

Myrtle & Spike, two-fingered sloths: Neck and neck in weight, competing to see who will be next to go to the pre-release enclosure. We are getting ready for one of them.

Liana, two-fingered sloth: Stable but still too small to move to a bigger enclosure.

Antonio, two-fingered sloth: Our smallest graduate, but growing well. We just increased his leaf amount. All the other sloths are offered the same amount except for Antonio, who’s working hard to catch up.

🥀In Loving Memory:
Cajeta, three-fingered sloth:
We are sorry to deliver the heavy news that Cajeta died of chronic pneumonia. This is a common issue TRR sees with orphaned three-fingered sloths.

A friendly reminder: We are a critical care facility - Even though you do not see this on camera, the animals are under 24/7 vet care.

NEW ARRIVAL:
Meet S’mores the juvenile Spectacled Owl!
🌵 A familiar story for young owls just learning how to fly, S’mores was found tangled in a barbed wire fence in the Limón Province of Costa Rica. Unable to escape, he was rescued by MINAE and brought to us for treatment of a wing injury.
🦉 Thankfully, the injuries S’mores had sustained were not significant and he breezed through his treatments in less than a month. He has since been moved to the Release Site where he is flying well and on track to be rewilded. Once we observe him hunting successfully, he will be #backinthetrees!
🎁 Looking for a last minute gift for a bird lover? Imagine S’mores under the tree this holiday season! Well, not physically–Symbolic Adoptions sponsor the overall care of an animal at TRR for one year!
💚 While wild animals are #notpets, you will receive recognition as being the adopter on our website and social media platforms, as well as an adoption package full of goodies! For more information, visit: https://bit.ly/TRRAdoptions

📺 SLOTH TV - they name the baby sloths after their rescuers.  ;D

🦥Sloth Preschool Update:
:-*

Moose, two-fingered sloth: Stable and active. Gaining weight and healthy all-around. He is finally growing in some adult hair!

Mimi, two-fingered sloth: Mimi is officially spending her nights out of the incubator with the other babies! She has been a lot more active and gaining confidence as she navigates life with one hand.

Grover, two-fingered sloth: Grover is growing well and nearing 1-kilogram, meaning he will be graduating to Sloth Elementary soon! Stable and gaining weight.

Nazli, two-fingered sloth: The wound on Nazli’s nose finally healed and she finished her nebulization treatments! While her prognosis is still reserved, she is gaining weight and doing much better than when she first arrived. She is also now spending her nights outside of the incubator!

JJ, two-fingered sloth: JJ is stable and growing well, but has to remain separated from his classmates, as he arrived with a case of mites. We are actively treating him with clorhexadine baths and mite medication.

NEW ARRIVAL Beanie, two-fingered sloth: Beanie was found alone on the ground, covered in bite wounds from a dog attack. We suspect there may be internal injuries to her hind limbs, as she has limited function. In need of a CT scan with a reserved prognosis at this time.

NEW ARRIVAL Fiesta, two-fingered sloth: Fiesta was found alone, abandoned by her mother with her umbilical cord still attached. She is in need of a CT scan to investigate some unusual findings in her x-rays. She has a reserved prognosis at this time.

NEW ARRIVAL Bruno, two-fingered sloth: This tiny newborn was found on the ground abandoned. Our newest arrival is spending most of his time in an incubator with a reserved prognosis at this time.

🌳Sloth Elementary Update: :-*

Ken, two-fingered sloth: Ken is growing quickly! He is now at the top of his class and right on track to head to Sloth University–only 200 grams away!

Phoenix, two-fingered sloth: Still slightly underweight, but he is stable, active, and growing. We have increased his feedings in an attempt to give him a chance to catch up to his classmates.

Roo, two-fingered sloth: Roo is spending nights in an outdoor enclosure and is eating exclusively leaves. Once he hits 1.5 kilograms, he will be ready to graduate to Sloth University!

GRADUATE Elmo, two-fingered sloth: Elmo has officially hit 1 kilogram and graduated to Sloth Elementary! He is transitioning onto a smoothie and leaf diet.

GRADUATE Binx, two-fingered sloth: Binx is also now over 1 kilogram and ready to continue her rehabilitation journey! And we have more good news–Binx received a clean bill of health from the cardiologist! We will continue to monitor her for any abnormalities, but for now she is stable and growing well.

🎓Sloth University Update: :-*

Coco, two-fingered sloth: The largest of our sloth graduates, Coco will likely be the first to be rewilded. She is stable and currently in one of our largest sloth pre-release enclosures.

Pax, two-fingered sloth: Growing fast and preparing to be rewilded. Currently in one of our largest sloth pre-release enclosures.

Antonio, two-fingered sloth: Antonio has finally caught up to his classmates in weight! He is stable and growing well.

Myrtle, two-fingered sloth: Stable and gaining weight. Competing with Antonio and Spike to see who will be the next to go into a pre-release enclosure.

Spike, two-fingered sloth: Stable and gaining weight. Competing with Antonio and Myrtle to see who will be the next to go into a pre-release enclosure.

🥀In Loving Memory:  :'(  - My question: why are the 3-fingered sloths survival rate so low? So far, none have lived beyond a few months old since I've been following for almost 2 years.  :'(

Fergus, three-fingered sloth:
We are devastated to share that despite nebulization treatments, Fergus succumbed to pneumonia. This is the reality of working with baby sloths with unknown life histories.

A friendly reminder: We are a critical care facility - Even though you do not see this on camera, the animals are under 24/7 vet care.

📺 SLOTH TV

🦥Sloth Preschool Update:

Moose, two-fingered sloth:
Stable and growing bigger every day; almost ready for Sloth Elementary!

Mimi, two-fingered sloth: Mimi has completely recovered from her skin condition and has been reunited with the other babies. She is nearly 1 kilogram, and we are so proud of her progress!

Grover, two-fingered sloth: Grover is still anemic and undergoing treatment to stabilize his iron levels. We have been testing his iron levels regularly and monitoring his condition closely.

JJ, two-fingered sloth: JJ has completely recovered from mites! He is stable and gaining weight.

Beanie, two-fingered sloth: The wound on Beanie’s thigh seems to be completely healed. We are closely monitoring her consumption, but she seems stable at this time. Her hind limb mobility is still minimal, but she is continuing with physical therapy.

Fiesta, two-fingered sloth: Fiesta has a wound on her umbilical cord that we are cleaning regularly and keeping bandaged. She is continuing regular nebulization treatments to address pneumonia and additional lung issues. We are closely monitoring her breathing during feedings. She has a reserved prognosis at this time.

Bruno, two-fingered sloth: Bruno has not been gaining weight, so we are closely monitoring his consumption. He seems to have a better appetite during the day than at night. He has a reserved prognosis at this time.

Tulip, two-fingered sloth: Tulip has been eating well and is transitioning to smoothie. Because she is still so tiny, she has a reserved prognosis at this time.

Nevada, two-fingered sloth: The tiniest of our babies, Nevada is fed every 3-4 hours. She has a good appetite but has a reserved prognosis at this time.

Rose, two-fingered sloth: Rose is stable and eating well on a smoothie diet.

🌳Sloth Elementary Update:

Phoenix, two-fingered sloth:
We have increased Phoenix’s feedings to ensure he is gaining enough weight. He is spending more time in an outdoor enclosure.

Binx, two-fingered sloth: We are still monitoring Binx’s weight closely as we attempt to wean her onto a more solid diet. She is spending more time in an outdoor enclosure.

Elmo, two-fingered sloth: As we transition Elmo off of smoothie, we are keeping a close eye on his appetite. He is spending more time in an outdoor enclosure.

🎓Sloth University Update:

Coco, two-fingered sloth:
Coco is back in the clinic after losing some weight. Due to uncommonly dry conditions at the Release Site, we decided it would be best to recapture her for a period to ensure she gets enough nutrition from the wild before we attempt to release her again.

Pax, two-fingered sloth: The next up for release! Pax is doing great in our largest prerelease enclosure.

Antonio, two-fingered sloth: Antonio has officially been moved to a prerelease enclosure! He has caught up in weight to the others and is nearly ready for the final step of his rehabilitation.

Myrtle, two-fingered sloth: Still making great progress, stable, and almost ready to move to a prerelease enclosure.

Spike, two-fingered sloth: Spike lost a little bit of weight and was moved to a smaller enclosure to monitor his leaf intake. We are hopeful that this is only a small bump on his road back to the wild.

Ken, two-fingered sloth: Ken is doing great in his new enclosure at the Release Site! He has maintained a good appetite and remained active.

Roo, two-fingered sloth: Roo is doing well at the Release Site. He has been enjoying his new spacious enclosure and a diet of fresh, local leaves!

🥀In Loving Memory:   :'(

Nazli, two-fingered sloth:
We are devastated to share that Nazli lost her battle with chronic pneumonia this past week. Despite regular nebulization treatments since her arrival, her complicated condition was showing little to no improvement and ultimately proved to be too strong for her tiny body to overcome.

📺 SLOTH TV
🦥Sloth Preschool Update:

JJ, two-fingered sloth: JJ is stable and gaining weight; soon to be entering Sloth Elementary!
Beanie, two-fingered sloth: Beanie’s hind limb mobility remains limited, so we continue to provide her with regular physical therapy, including acupuncture treatments. She is otherwise stable.
Fiesta, two-fingered sloth: Fiesta’s umbilical cord wound has almost completely healed, so we have removed her bandage, (which she has been very pleased about). She continues regular nebulization treatments to address her ongoing lung issues but has been doing well.
Bruno, two-fingered sloth: Bruno is eating better and gaining weight, but still has a reserved prognosis.
Tulip, two-fingered sloth: Tulip is officially spending nights outside the incubator with the other babies! She has had some loose stool but otherwise appears stable.
Nevada, two-fingered sloth: Little Nevada is steadily gaining weight, but is still spending nights in the incubator. She has developed wounds on both hind limbs, which we are cleaning with antibiotics daily.
Rose, two-fingered sloth: Rose has been having some mild digestive issues, so we are providing her with transfaunation. Otherwise stable.

NEW ARRIVAL
Pixie, two-fingered sloth:
Premature Pixie was found alone in the Limón Province of Costa Rica. Appropriately named, she currently weighs 244 grams, making her the most miniature baby sloth we have ever had in our care. She is receiving nebulization treatments to address some breathing issues and to help open up her nostrils. Though she is eating well, due to how underdeveloped she is, she has a reserved prognosis at this time.

🌳Sloth Elementary / High School Update:
GRADUATE:

Mimi, two-fingered sloth:
Welcome our newest graduate to Sloth Elementary! Mimi’s disability doesn’t slow her down one bit. She is eating lots of leaves and is incredibly active.
Moose, two-fingered sloth: Moose spends most of his time on the play structure, practicing his climbing skills and napping in the hammock with his buddy Grover. He has a great appetite and is the strongest of the group.
Grover, two-fingered sloth: We are pleased to report that Grover has completely recovered from anemia. He is incredibly active and has a healthy appetite.

Continues recovery:

Phoenix, two-fingered sloth: Phoenix is gradually becoming weaned off smoothie. He has a healthy appetite and has been eating many leaves in his outdoor enclosure.
Binx, two-fingered sloth: Binx is doing much better adapting to an outdoor enclosure and starting to eat more leaves. Stable and growing well.
Elmo, two-fingered sloth: Stable and gaining weight. Elmo is doing better in an outdoor enclosure but still has an attachment to its caregivers. We are working on it!

NEW ARRIVAL:

Natalia, Three-fingered sloth:
Natalia was found alone in La Virgen, Costa Rica after her mother abandoned her. Despite this, she arrived alert and responsive without any apparent injuries. She is currently at a healthy weight and remains active, spending much of her day in the trees of the Sloth TV Playground. She is almost ready to head to the Release Site to continue her rehabilitation process.
Marina, three-fingered sloth: Marina was found in the Limón Province of Costa Rica, dehydrated and alone on the ground. We have been providing her with fluids and monitoring her carefully. She spends most of her days in the trees on the Sloth TV Playground. She is almost ready to head to the Release Site to continue her rehabilitation process.

🎓Sloth University Update:

Coco, two-fingered sloth: We are relieved to report that Coco is once again stable. She has spent the past few weeks in the clinic gaining back all the weight she lost and is nearly ready to give it another go!
Pax, two-fingered sloth: Pax is ready for release! He will return to his wild home sometime this week, and we are so excited to see how he thrives!
Antonio, two-fingered sloth: Antonio is set to be released sometime this week! He is doing great in the largest of our pre-release enclosures and has surpassed Pax in weight!
Myrtle, two-fingered sloth: Myrtle has reached a stagnant point in her release process. She is showing signs of anemia, and we are closely monitoring her condition at this time. We are hopeful that she will make a full recovery with a little extra TLC.
Spike, two-fingered sloth: Spike is stable and eating well once more. He is growing stronger every day.
Ken, two-fingered sloth: Ken remains active and has been eating well. He is progressing steadily.
Roo, two-fingered sloth: Roo is stable and progressing well through rehabilitation.
