Yes, I see that is gone.  Darn.  Another TV was there, couldn't tell if it was the partner or an interloper?

I was excited when you said, possible pip!

I was excited too.  The parent behavior has seemed odd.  Eating straw or bugs.  Wandering around before settling on eggs???

Mama or Daddy TV gave some good glimpses of the new baby just a few minutes ago

Here's two more pics of the new vulture baby. The parents were hissing and growling about it. Wonder if they might be first-time parents??  Anyhow, I think we should name it Luna, or Eclipse, in honor of the Moon feature when it hatched.  Or not, if it is bad luck to name a chick!

STL, I saw shift change, and the odd behavior by the parent in the bottom pic.  I thought maybe that was Dad TV, seeing it for the first time.

Lisa, I thought the same, Dad TV. It looked like a bigger bird than the other one, but is the male TV larger than the female?  Cornell's All About Birds doesn't mention size difference.  Perhaps just puffed up at the sudden movement of what was an egg just a short time ago.

I noticed about 4 hours ago or so on rewind, that there was a pip in the 2nd egg, and just a few minutes ago when the parent got up I saw the 2nd chick come out of the egg.  Its in front of the older chick.

Ya gotta be quick to catch these chicks in view!  It's extra tricky because the cam is in B&W most of the time.  Great to watch Turkey Vultures raising young in Missouri.  Love hearing the parents tromp across the wood plank hay loft floor.

STL - RRP posted a video and small post about the TV's last night on their Facebook page.  Here is what they said about feeding the chicks.

Eagles and falcons feed their young chunks of meat, but turkey vultures feed by regurgitation (aka vomiting)! A chick slips or thrusts its beak inside its parent's beak, which stimulates regurgitation. When chicks are young, parents regurgitate small amounts of well-digested food - much like the tiny bits of pure meat that eagles feed to their hatchlings. As the young vultures grow, parents often switch to regurgitating large, poorly digested chunks on the floor - much like eagle parents who feed older nestlings large pieces of bone and meat with fur, scales, and feathers.

Lisa, thanks for the information from RRP about feeding. Seems very vulture-ish, in other words, gross, disgusting, smelly, generally awful.  But we humans are fortunate to have birds and other creatures that clean up the multitudes of carrion and other dead stuff.

Our little fluff ball chicks are growing daily.  Parents filling up those little bellies, despite rainy day.  Parent has them tucked in for the night.  He/She spends so much time feeding and preening them.
