Hi Rues! happy you are okay and poor molly. i had a black lab steeler so scared of storms i had to give him a sedative that ed gave me. poor molly. happy you did not get that straight line wind. i had to google derecho. never heard that before. round here either a tornado or a straight line wind.  see my phone don't know how to blast a siren! i am sure jim's smart phone  does.  no do not mow today. oh i need to do that so bad but sister goes back tonight and it is already getting hot. i got all this stuff too do. big yay you did not lose your power i hope i did not voodoo it for you! when i was walking in walmart this morning at like 6:10am there was this old man walking past the front doors there. he picked up an old cig butt that was laying on the ground and lit it up and was smoking it!! ewwwww i was like old man do not do that stuff!!

Hi Jo! It was shocking and very sad on honey bear. cried my eyes out but at least they took care of her all her life no place on earth better than the one she got and was there for her at the end. she was not in the wild there going thru that alone. i told dr. rogers i had a granite upright headstone for my horse and i would donate the money for honey to have one. he wanted me to call him and i did. i told him of a place that makes headstones he wanted a flat one. i donated and some of my friends donated and then others did so plenty of money i told him any extra use it for food for the bears. she had a good spot to be buried. i know too bad we all can't be here forever but we can't. life is hard. Happy you like the puzzles and us! :D

Hi Everyone! I've been thinking of and missing you all, hope you are having a good summer and staying safe with the nasty storms. We are doing good here, the party went good, graduation party for a Granddaughter. I have quite a lot of flowers around as usual so that keeps me busy, helped out babysitting for the Grands also. I am watching the Katmai Bear Cams, enjoying that. The eaglets are pretty much all fledging I guess. I got a new camera so enjoy taking that out also. Hope you all are doing good!

Good morning.  A bad storm coming down from Minnesota angled to the SE and we JUST caught the edge of some rain.  I hope anyone in the path of last night's storms are ok.  Between tornadoes in Illinois, Indiana, and into Ohio it was a rough night for some.  Joe was having a fit because I was out on the porch taking lightning videos  :) Here's one of them, the storm went just east of us, we just got a little rain, like 1/10 of an inch.  The thunder was just a steady rumble...   https://youtu.be/FOXlGBgBIHE

Dang Cal, poor Scootie.  I think potassium bromide is what Billy Bob's vet combined with the phenobarbital because phenobarbital wasn't totally holding him.  I used the hate the two weeks after the slightest dose adjustment or change like adding potassium bromide.

That's a cute picture of Bow.  :)

Hi Jo!

I've got to borrow your "dry heat" cartoon Cal  :D

Cal ~  exactly ...   :D   It is a dry heat until the monsoon kicks in.  I'm sending that dry heat cartoon to my brother, Doug.  He'd move if he could, but his wife doesn't want to.  He'd head for Oregon or Colorado.

Obsver, so happy to hear you are ok! Did you get any rain at all? We got another half inch of rain from the off and on showers today. Temps just made it up to 70 which feels kinda chilly! Lol!

Nora, wow what a video! That lightning is scary stuff!

Hi Jo, Neva and Deb!

Cal, Janice sends you the best stuff! Lol! So that's what dry heat looks like! Lol! I saw a guy in front of the 7 Eleven Store do the same thing....he picked up a cig butt that someone had just thrown down before going into the store and he smoked it! This butt was still lit so he just took a drag on it! Ewww, is right!  I could never figure out why anyone would purposely inhale smoke! And I grew up in a house where my parents and older bro and sis smoked. Almost every adult I knew back then smoked. Glad things have changed. That's so nice that one of the kittens is with the mom now. I'm sure you will catch the rest of them! Hi to Polly!

HI Jewelies!  Wish I could get some of that rain... When I came through town this afternoon, the bank said 100o.  Geez.  Thanks for checking in you guys, so we know you're ok!

cal... You caught one of the babies!!  Awww!  Now, the other 3 are talking to each other and saying "Don't go near that big lady!  Mama did and we never saw her again!  Little yellow did, and now he's gone, too!"  lol  Love Janice and her cartoons!  She comes up with some really good ones!  Page 250 now of the Obsession!   :o :o :o

Nora... That lightning was amazing!  I'd be out watching it, too.  Love storms!  I'm glad you just got the edge of it though!

rues... I'm glad you didn't lose your power and you're not flooded.  Never heard of a derecho before...  Is Robin still supposed to get her air fixed tomorrow? Hope so!  Poor Molly!  We used to have a Doberman that was scared of storms and would sit right up next to you and shake so much that it felt like you were shaking, too!   :D

dlong... You don't have to worry about me... I'm in SC and we didn't get a storm or even a drop of rain.  But, thanks for thinking of me anyway!  lol

obsver... Glad you're ok, too!  On the news last night, they really looked like some scary storms going through!

Hi Jo, Deb, neva and JP!  Everyone else, too!

Hi, Jewelies!  The trees have really been taking a hit this summer. I've heard of a lot of them going down in storms. Saw a house on tv that was crushed to a HUGE oak tree. Most of the damage was an hour's drive from me. Rues, I thought of you right away last night. Just know that Wells & Huntington counties sent that weather to you--NOT me!!!!!!!!!! We did get a little rain, but not much. Jo, keep joining us and feel free to jump in and post whenever you want! Cal, sure hope Scootie's meds kick in soon. So upsetting for everyone. Tell Polly she needs a bigger fork, maybe even a taser! Ra, a lot of storms were in the Chicago area and into Mich. The 2nd round came down this way. My eastern daughter is flying back home from western Canada tomorrow. Sure hope these storms are done for awhile. Oh, heck--whether you have human kids or furry kids, there's no end to the worry. Deb, glad you are having a good summer. Thanks for posting! Hi, jp, Dlong, neva, maddie rose, bischue, Eaglette, Willi!!!!  Nora, hope you don't have anymore bad storms!

hi nora! did that pottasium bromide help billy bobs seizure at the time? i feel like we should add that not another phenobarb. sister was wow by your lighting but she was happy to see it on video she is very afraid of storms. like steeler and molly. get off me sister just thunder and lighting just a tornado dont be such a baby. omg power is out!

Victor is the bear today.

My 92 year old bones are creaking this morning.  I stayed up late watcing the baseball game.  The Marlins broke a 2-2 tie in the 8th inning and won 4-2 over the cubs.

Daily Updates
Lily and Tasha - UPDATE June 23, 2016
23 June 2016
Print Email
Lily totally disrupted Dr. Roger Powell?s attempt to show me the presentation he prepared for the American Society of Mammalogists that starts tomorrow (June 24-28) at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Mystery bear
Mystery bear
The presentation, authored by Roger, Sue, and me had to wait when Lily appeared outside. Lily was not as excited to see us as we were to see her. She did not even glance at us as we approached her. She knew she was in a safe spot with no worries about inconsequential humans?especially if one of them is saying ?It?s me bear.? Her focus was on a sound off in the woods. I tried throwing her a couple hazelnuts courtesy of Lily Fans, but she knew the meaning of a nut hitting the ground near her and paid no attention. She listened to something we couldn?t hear for a couple minutes and started toward us. She ignored the couple hazelnuts on the ground near her and came straight to the scale and got on it for the bigger reward she knew she would get there. She stood quietly and ate the handful of hazelnuts while we looked in a living room window at the scale reading?218 pounds. When she was done, she didn?t acknowledge us with a thank you. She just left. She seems to still have an agenda beyond filling her stomach. I wish we could determine what it is.

Behind-the-scenes amplified

Out in the woods, the double dose of rainfall in May (7.36 inches versus the average of 3.20 inches) has helped create a bumper crop of berries to assure Lily can give birth in January. I?d like to watch Lily this winter along with her Fans on a Den Cam.

At the Bear Center, Tasha continues to settle in. Instead of frantically pacing as she did when she was worried about Lucky and Holly, she is marking her pen by back-rubbing on a post and then stomp-walking as she leaves the post. She now plays with her water bowls as a Lily Fan captured in this 4-minute video https://youtu.be/qSIHRvfaCU0.

Also at the Bear Center, the staff saw the popularity of the hourly behind-the-scenes tours and installed a microphone and speakers so the crowds can better hear the tour-leaders.

At sunset, a skittish bear showed up at the WRI that we didn?t immediately recognize. Maybe this long lens photo will help.

Thank you for all you do.
