She certainly is a Honey.

A little bit of Gr-r-r-r this morning as I overslept.  It was raining (again) and I went back to sleep (just for a couple of minutes) which turned out to be longer.

Yes, Wednesday I did go  down to the ocean and spend  some time.  Reminds me of an old poem by John Masefield," Sea Fever", which starts out "I must go down to the seas again."

Fond thoughts for a good day pass to all.

Lucky and Holly UPDATE February 4, 2016

Ted - October 13, 2015
Ted - October 13, 2015
This afternoon, a Lily Fan captured a 10-minute video of some waking moments when Holly decided it was time for some gentle play that turned more vigorous toward the end. Throughout, both bears had their ears in the typical play position?ears standing up but pointed out to the sides?not forward or back. https://www.facebook.com/toni.embree.50 /videos/1180715645294397

The picture of Ted is from October 13 this past fall. It shows the inside of the Chalet Den where he is sleeping on deeper straw than is shown.

This 1-hour video is of June with cubs Lily, Cal, and Bud back on February 21, 2007. https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=jABGlxdnZDw She watches as we place the camera near the den and step back to let maximum light into the den. June then tucks her head down and rests or sleeps as she does when the cubs are quiet or making the nursing hum. When a cub screeches because it can?t reach a nipple, has to eliminate, or is exposed to cold (a high of 34?F that day), she fixes the situation. June shows no sign of anxiety toward us. One of these days, I want to set a video camera where it can see into Jewel?s den. We may hear the cubs and see how many voices we hear at once in a good nursing session. Last time I was there, she nursed nearly the whole time.

Thank you for all you do.

Eaglette, I thought you were in IOWA.  How great to have a house that overlooks the ocean, they must love it as well as you when you visit.  No wonder you said 80 for a predicted high if you're not in Iowa  :D  We're going to be in the 30's though!!!  ;)  Love your eagle gif.

Glad you got to the ocean JP, bet that's a neat poem.  Ted was strolling in like he "owns the place".   ;)

No wonder you want their form from THEM and not on-line.  I forgot about the doctor part of it.

Ohhhh the dog ate the new passport, that would be worse than saying it ate your homework and hopefully not right before they needed it.  :D

RA it IS neat watching trees get taken down.  Are these the ones you worried about if a storm took them down?

HI Jewelies!  Busy day again today!  Sunny, but chilly.  I got some more yard work done this afternoon, and got my windows washed, too!  I hate washing windows, so I treat myself to clean windows every couple of years!  lol  The man was telling me that they wash the outside with ionized water, no soap or chemicals.  No streaks, plants are fine, looks like a really good job!  That was the first time I've heard of the ionized water.

blschue... You don't have the wood yet?  I sent it priority mail... a little pricey!  lol   Don't you wish!  lol  I really haven't done much with my new sewing machine... It's been pretty nice out and I've been concentrating on the yard.   I still have a few things to do, but I'm getting there.  It's supposed to be nice all weekend and the grands won't be here, so I can maybe get a lot done.  Keyword=maybe...  lol

cal... Glad you got your form today and sent it certified mail.  They can't say they didn't get it now.  I just love the updates that have pictures of Ted!  He's such a pretty bear... and BIG!!

Nora... Yes, the trees were ones I worried about hitting the house.  Well, most of them were.  A couple of them were dead anyway and one was really old and pretty scraggly and probably wouldn't last much longer.  The stumps are huge on 3 of them!  Sure looks different now!  Maybe my plants in the backyard will do better now that they'll get more sun.

JP... Glad you got to sit by the ocean Wednesday!  Sounds like such a treat!

rues... I recorded the Blacklist last night and Shades of Blue, too.  I was watching American Idol until 10:00, then got busy doing some laundry.  Maybe I'll get to watch it tonight before Hawaii 50...

I made sausage stew for supper... it's been cooking most of the day.  Yum.  Polish sausage, cabbage, potatoes, onion, and stewed potatoes.

Hope everyone had a good Friday!  Hi to everyone!

thank you ra and all others that commented on the gif.  This is the location where I found the gif in case you want to borrow it too.  https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/2e/8b/9f/2e8b9f1e506402767c3d9f4d716282d7.gif

I do not know why I am in such a hurry to press the save button, cause most of the time I always post right after my first thought.  LOL   I wanted to wish you all a wonderful Super Bowl Weekend.  I have family visiting and birthdays and lunches and gaming to watch with the family for the next few days; so I do not believe I will be on line all weekend.  May your favorite team win and may you all enjoy the Super Bowl commercials.  Try to remember to check in on the SWFEC and check out their eaglets.  They are 8 and 10 days old today. These two are so darling to watch.  Way different dynamic when there are only two in the nest than when there are three in the nest.  SWFE estimate Harriet at 26, I read from their Mod and that her beau M15 is about 5.   :o

I was going to suggest JP was close to that nest, but then I see that you are over 5 hours drive time from Ft. Myers.  That is not really close.  JP, hope you enjoy the Bowl game.  Make sure you have something decadent delivered to you for this year's game if you are watching it alone.  I will be with family and I hope to snack my way through the commercials.  Really let me know tomorrow that I really should not be polluting my body like that, but not ashamed that I did.   ;D

Cal, enjoy your weekend and don't let all those animals keep you from having some fun this Sunday too.

Jewelies, it was so warm today and it will be so nice tomorrow too.  When all this beautiful weather leaves me here, it is coming your way.  You are going to enjoy the nice weather soon!  I promise.   :-*

cal... That's a funny story!  lol

Eaglette... Harriet is 26 and her mate is 5?  Does that mean they have a cougar in the nest??   :o  :o I hope you have a fun weekend with your company!  Thanks for sending your nice weather our way!   ;)  When I went to the doctor last year for the first time in many years, she asked me what kind of eater I was... good, bad, or ugly.  I laughed and said bad, bordering on ugly.  She just shook her head and told me how lucky I was to be in as good health as I am!  lol  So pollute away!   ;D

2-year old Eli.

The weather is improving, no rain scheduled for this day, and a warming trend.  I really feel my age this morning.  Seem to be short on energy.

I do wish a super Saturday for all before the Super bowl  tomorrow.  Pitchers and catchers report to training camps in a week to a week and a half.  that means baseball season is getting underway.  Then, all will be right with the world.  I love baseball.

Holly, Lucky, Redpolls - UPDATE February 5, 2016

Redpoll
Common Redpoll
At about 11 AM, it was playtime again. In this 9-minute video, thanks to a Lily Fan, Holly turned to raking with her ears in a non-play position?back as if listening in Lucky?s direction. Then they turned to trusting play with ears in the outward play position. Holly totally trusts Lucky and allows herself to get into vulnerable positions under him as he bites at her playfully. She feels the same way we do about bears. It?s not the size of a bear but its disposition that determines how much we trust it. https://www.facebook.com /toni.embree.50/videos/ o.139730642706794/1181168571915771/ ?type=2&theater

Male Redpoll
Male Redpoll
Speaking of play, Sue caught a nice 41-second video of June, Jewel, and Jordan on May 4, 2009. June stops scent-marking to play with a cub before completing her scent-marking and moving on with the cubs. The light is nice and the cubs are energetic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1z_BwMA98s

Out the window, Common Redpolls (Acanthis flammeus) are flocking in from the arctic. The pictures show a mature male with its pink breast and a female or young male that has streaks. Redpolls are named for the red patch on top of the head. They get that patch with their late summer molt their first year, so they have it by the time we see them this far south in winter.

Thank you for all you do.

Loving Couple, June, Sculpture, Kate - UPDATE February 6, 2016

Bear Snow Sculpture
Bear Snow Sculpture
In this 10-minute video, the loving couple, Lucky and Holly, are resting face to face with Lucky crowding onto Holly?s side of the bed, showing gentle interactions without the unkind words we occasionally saw from Lucky?s den mates Ted and Honey in years past. No wonder Lucky paid Holly a visit in the fall and maybe invited her to join him. Whatever it was, he must have missed her to go to her den to see her, and she must have missed him to leave the den and join him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ex3anEafQw&feature=youtu.be

Dawn and Kate
Dawn and Kate
In this 4-minute video, Holly starts working on her foot pads and then gets distracted by a piece of paper. No hurry, she has a couple months to get rid of the foot pads. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLQgvcbHvbc

In this 18-second video from June 21, 2009, a cub (Jewel or Jordan) makes a deft leap from a tree to a beaver dam and June is foraging, I think for jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) leaves.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfUuhm23MiY

At the Winter Festival in Ely today a snow sculptor turned the tables on the theme of a child holding a teddy bear on his or her lap. This time it is the child on the bear?s lap.

At the Women?s Expo in Lansing, Michigan, Lily Fan Dawn Minerick was carrying a bag with a bear my daughter Kate recognized, which resulted in them meeting. Fun.

Thank you for all you do.
