Dear Cal, I was so sorry to hear about your loss. :'( :'( :'(  Rose had a great life filled with love, care, and companionship. There's no doubt she'll be missed terribly, but will be close to your heart forever.

Dear, sweet cal, I hope you can feel all the love being sent your way from so many people--good to see some posts from the Beak Room--the time we have with our wonderful pets is never enough. You gave Rose such a wonderful home--she was truly blessed to have you. I hope you got the pm I sent you.

Daily Updates
Ted, Tasha, Lucky, and Holly - UPDATE September 21, 2016
21 September 2016
Print Email
Curator Sharon Herrell reported on our four bears.

"Today Ted had his usual outing and stopped by the Pat Tree for a treat. Tasha
Tasha
He was the only bear that showed for the 11:00 enrichment.

The 1:00 enrichment was a "no show" for all bears.

Lucky spent most of his day in the bunker. Rain and cold puts him closer and closer to saying, " Night, see you in the spring."

Tasha had yet another good day. She ate on the lower part of the mound near the main gate. I put some more treats there for her hoping she'd stay for the 4:00 Behind-The-Scenes tour. Heidi sat with her to help her build more confidence. Tasha walked to the front of the building but again saw her reflection and quickly went back to the mound area. I almost thought I could get her to eat her dinner so all our wonderful viewers could see her pick and choose her dinner items. (She doesn't like the salmon dog chow).

Ted in his beautiful home
Ted
I found Holly waiting for her dinner in the big bunker, Lucky joined her and they ate together in the big bunker they know well from last winter.

Good day at the NABC."

At the WRI, it was another interview with NPR. More later.

All seemed well on the hunting front.

Thank you for all you do.

RC, Ohio and Valentine

Windows performed an update and there is some misbehaving going on with the computer.  I guess it is not all the way into its Autumn mood.

I hope this is a greeting for all to have a fine Thursday.  I still am praying for our dear friend Cal and am happy to see her daily update here this morning.

Hi Jewelies! It's finally fall! But my thermometer still reads 90! Maybe late next week we could get some rain and cooler temps!

Cal, miss you. Thinking about you a lot.

Jp, thanks for your morning greeting each morning. I always look forward to it. Hope your computer quit misbehaving!

Nora, I have to agree with you! I don't think 6:54 is late either! Lol! If I get up before 7:30 I think I got up way too early! lol! Please send all unwanted rain my way!

Of course those of that get up about nine could be night owls like me.  I hit the bed between 2:30 and 3:00.  ;)

"Tasha walked to the front of the building but again saw her reflection and quickly went back to the mound area"  What a nut  :D  She'll get used to it.

We got about 3 inches of rain overnight, not as bad as some areas.  It's NOT needed. Some areas around Decorah (SE of here) are having water issues again.  A bit southwest of here is Charles City and that is on the Cedar River and from there downstream is flooding.  We're fine here in Cresco.  Ran down to check the Turkey River and it's running real fast, but still a bit below the top of the banks.

So far so good after Windows 10 did the big update I've heard about, or it better be the big one as long as it took last night.  I had trouble after some of the updates when I still had Windows 7 though.

Daily Updates
All is Well - UPDATE September 22, 2016
22 September 2016

Hunting continues across the street from the WRI, but few bears are coming. We haven't heard any rifle shots and don't know of any being killed around here lately. Blue jay with walnut

Bear-hunting in general has fallen off big-time with the opening of grouse season and bow deer season on September 17.

Jewel and her cubs continue to be seen at another location. When they stop coming, we'll give them a few days or a couple weeks to settle into their den and then check to see if she re-used her den from last year.

Last night, Lily did not come to the camera site in the safe area where she has been coming regularly. We suspect she has gone to a den. Ember, who also should be pregnant, is still coming.

At the Bear Center, we're looking forward to Tasha learning to ignore her reflection in the windows. Holly had to get over that, too. I don't know how much water those two grew up with in Kentucky and Arkansas. Blue jay flying in for a walnut

Here in the land of 10,000 lakes, bears seem to know about their reflections.

Here at the Wildlife Research Institute, it was a day at the desk catching up after two days of interviews with National Public Radio.

Out the windows, blue jays showed how much they like walnuts.

Thank you for all you do.

Tasha is looking great!  Great blue jay pictures.

62 and drizzling.  After the 3 inches of rain we got the night before and into yesterday we don't need more.  South of here has been getting it and they don't need it, already having floods.  Areas down from Decorah are flooding AGAIN! They don't need that every few weeks.  We are/will be fine here in Cresco.

Good afternoon, Jewelies! The second day of fall and our temperature right now is 93!! However this time next week we are supposed to be back to normal temps...75 with lows in the upper 40's! That sounds wonderful. Maybe then I can turn off the ac.

Nora, I didn't know windows 10 had a big update! Would that apply to my new laptop with windows 10? I haven't noticed anything different. I'm so tech stupid! Good grief, your area is getting way to much rain! Hope it stops soon! On the news here today, local farmers are saying the drought is causing a shortage in pumpkins! I have noticed that the stores don't have as many bins of pumpkins as they have before. They are also more expensive.

The Anniversary update would apply to all Windows 10 installations.  When it is installed your computer will be using Windows 10 Version 1607.

Ok JP, that's what my big update was.  I had to google to find out how to see what I have for the version, but found it.  Thanks!
