Hunting continues across the street from the WRI, but few bears are coming. We haven't heard any rifle shots and don't know of any being killed around here lately. Blue jay with walnut

Bear-hunting in general has fallen off big-time with the opening of grouse season and bow deer season on September 17.

Jewel and her cubs continue to be seen at another location. When they stop coming, we'll give them a few days or a couple weeks to settle into their den and then check to see if she re-used her den from last year.
Last night, Lily did not come to the camera site in the safe area where she has been coming regularly. We suspect she has gone to a den. Ember, who also should be pregnant, is still coming.
At the Bear Center, we're looking forward to Tasha learning to ignore her reflection in the windows. Holly had to get over that, too. I don't know how much water those two grew up with in Kentucky and Arkansas. Blue jay flying in for a walnut

Here in the land of 10,000 lakes, bears seem to know about their reflections.
Here at the Wildlife Research Institute, it was a day at the desk catching up after two days of interviews with National Public Radio.
Out the windows, blue jays showed how much they like walnuts.
Thank you for all you do.
