Awww Pearl looks like a real sweetheart without even hearing about her!  She has nice eyes.  She's going to be loved forever and not have to leave anywhere again.  Love you for what you do with all your fir kids.

Cal, Pearl is a beauty! Love her name! She is coming to her forever home!   You knew I'd wonder what floated meant, didn't you? Lol! You teach me so much about farm life. What a good boy Sweets was to help Soda find her way. I'm so happy Soda is eating and pooping ok! I'm also so happy to see you post!

Cal ...  I am glad to hear that Pearl has come into your life.  You are right, she needs you, and you need her ... as does Little Sweets and Soda.  I am so sorry that you are suffering this loss.

Pearl looks like a lovely girl.  I hope that she will have many happy years with you.

They say that for every door that closes, another door opens ... but sometimes we have to be alert to looking for it.  Perhaps Pearl is another door, into another beautiful relationship.  I think that you will mean the world to Pearl.

I only discussed your loss of Rose with a daughter and granddaughter.  You know that I rarely have much to say... especially online.

Take care, Cal... we all love you.

Two pf Samantha's  cubs.

cal, I really know little about horses but Pearl is nice looking.  She looks as if she is good-sized.  Is she a big horse?

All you Jewelies, I hope that your Saturday is worthwhile.

Daily Updates
A Look Back - UPDATE September 23, 2016
23 September 2016
Print Email
On this day at the desk, I was gathering materials for the Den Cam Permit Application, the book, and NPR and came across this letter from September 13, 2011 to Commissioner Tom Landwehr. http://www.bearstudy.org/website/images/stories/Documents/20110913_Landwehr_Letter_Den_Visits.pdf

Lily and Hope on October 25, 2010
Lily and Hope on October 25, 2010
I wrote it to him a couple weeks after I finally met him. He had told me he was angry about my quest for protection for radio-collared bears. I thought a little bear-time together would create understanding. I didn't realize that he was already bent on ending the Den Cams and my research. I learned in court 2 1/2 years later that he didn't bother reading what I sent. But it brought back good memories today.

Lily and Hope on October 25, 2010
Lily and Hope on October 25, 2010
With us now trying to get a Den Cam, this look back fits the day. The letter itself is a little long but recalls Lily, Hope, Faith, and details about what happened to Jason. It tells how we work. What brought back especially good memories were the updates and pictures at the end of the letter. They are from the exciting times in early 2011 when we visited Lily's den and saw the family (Lily, Hope, Faith, and Jason). The pictures show Lily (radio-collared) and Hope on October 25, 2010, getting the den ready where Faith and Jason were born on January 21, 2011.

I very much want to use Den Cams like the Court of Appeals supported.

Thank you for all you do.

Wow was that an interesting letter by Dr. Rogers.  I didn't have time to finish it right now, so downloaded to finish after while.

Did Pearl actually kick Soda or just show her she wouldn't take anything from her if she was going to try?  She wouldn't know Soda couldn't see it.  She may have had to stand up for herself at that darned place.  I bet they'll settle in together just fine.  Will your other gal be coming home from the neighbor's?

I agree JP, I think a gross misunderstanding is happening here.  Sometimes interpretation of things is hard when it's typed and not spoken.  We're family here.  If we have a family reunion down the road I'll bring a big batch of tuna salad made with the little macaroni rings!  Love you guys.

I bet that little possum was really cute!

Cal, sounds like Pearl is adjusting to her new home!! Didn't take her long to appreciate the fan! How do you suppose Pearl lost her front teeth? You know, Boo doesn't have his bottom front teeth! What kind of horse is Pearl? I've never seen a baby possum! Wonder if there are more?

Hi Jewelies!  :)

I'm sure glad the bear hunting seems to have slowed down. The updates always have the best pictures in them.

Well, I guess this is the last hot day, hopefully for the season! It's supposed to rain here tomorrow and the high for Monday will be 71! Yay!! I go to see the orthopedic surgeon on Monday morning. Not looking forward to that visit because they always have to move my leg all around and it hurts!

My daughter and her husband went to visit my kids in Phoenix earlier this month and had a nice time. The first thing they did was go to Tucson to check out the boys' rental properties down there. It sure is a pretty city.

My daughter got this picture of a hawk in a tree at one of the apartment complexes.

This is Lara, Jason and Josh walking on the nice bike path in Pantano Wash in Tucson. It is right next to one of their apartment complexes. We still don't have a lot of bike paths here yet but they are working on it.

The little panda twins at Zoo Atlanta are doing great! They are the cutest things! You can see both of them in this short video from yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KusRu-TZPsI

Here are a few pics of them. I don't know who is who yet!

Bei Bei is 1 year old now. This is a video of him and his mom outdoors playing. He is getting huge!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sh63Mr0iVU

And this is a short video of a new baby lowland gorilla that was born this week at Zoo Atlanta. The mom is so attentive to her baby. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YAwtTfemS0

I'm going to have to get going; been sitting too long!

Hi to JP, Cal, Rues, Ra, Obsver, Willi, Nora, Neva, Chippy, Deb, Pat, Blschue and everyone who visits here. Hope you all have a good evening and a restful night.  :)

Hi Cal! Today Hyacinth and Liz were helping Mrs.Councillor Nugent out at the charity shop. Rose was depressed because Mr Blenkinsop broke up with her, so she donated her sexy underwear to the shop. Mrs Councillor Nugent was appalled and returned them to her at Daisy's. Daddy was engaged and Hyacinth put an end to that! It's still the first Rose, not our favorite one!  Boo broke his 4 bottom front teeth out trying to bite his way out of a crate when he was a couple years old. No more crates for him! He has no problems with the missing teeth. I'm so happy that Pearl comes when she sees you! I bet Soda and Pearl will become best friends. I'm glad you found her!  Our cooler weather is coming Tuesday! I'm so excited! We started closing the pool today and will finish it up tomorrow. We have never had it open this late in the season. The pool people said to keep it open while the temps were in the 90's otherwise the water would turn green with algae and be a real problem next spring. As always, Molly was the last to get in the pool this afternoon. She is always the first one in each spring, too. That dog loves her pool.

Dlong, great pics. Omg, I love the baby pandas! They are precious. I wish we had bike paths in my town but no one seems to be interested in them. Marietta, OH, across the river from us, has a beautiful one that follows the river. Marietta is a college town and I think that has a lot to do with it. Neva lives in Tucson, doesn't she?  You will feel like a new person when you get your hip fixed!

Cal ~  What does Little Sweets think of Pearl?  Bless you, Cal, for coming to Pearl's rescue.  You have a big heart.

Yes, Rues ...  I do live in Tucson, and not all that far from the Pantano Wash.  Those paths are maintained all over town, by these dry river beds (washes)  We have a lot of cyclists here and hikers, and we are a college town too.  In the Metropolitan Tucson area, there are close to a million people ... it is a big valley ... with a spread out city, that almost has the feel of a town.  I love it here, (way better than Phoenix).    :)

Ted

Hi, all you charming people.  I would like to tell you that it is a wonderful day.  I would like to  tell you that but, unfortunately, I  can not.  I overslept quite late and I have no energy.  A blah day.  I expect it will improve as it matures.

I wish you all a nice day and plenty of energy to go with it.
