hi you guys its 31 here 25 in iceland 33 in kviv and 51 in the barn. watching the world news at 2 am "prince" harry getting paid the big bucks to whine about his family. someday will have exhausted that and no more new stuff as you are not there anymore. meanwhile his bossy wife is with her family and friends.  doc be bringing in his kitty pretty soon!  :)

I let indy out yesterday about noon. i had to open his barn door and he was so good stood back door slid right back too. i use my cane got out in the coral indy did not roll or pee just walked up to that gate waiting for me. i got up there open that gate pushed it back and went back by big post that gate shuts too. he rolled took a pee.  then he took off bucking and kicking rodeo mule he went up to the new fence and looked out in the pasture then he ran the new fence line into a gallop running more bucking went back to new gate i was still at the post he looked back at me like i know this is my ticket out come open it no he charged up toward me oh sh** he was looking at something by me i looked back it was Maybe! i yelled run maybe run she ran out of the corral back over where she was safe and out. i slid behind that big post but indy put the brakes on. then he started eating grass. so i got back in the barn did housekeeping came out my walker was there got it went back up stopped by smokey turned and was looking back saw indy with his butt against the gate we go in and out with the gator maybe came over to me i said look maybe boy is right there i yelled hi sweety boy and he hee hawed took off bucking and kicking running all over so he has plenty of room to run and buck and roll. he started eating again so later on like around 2 i went out and in the barn i open his back door to see where he was he was close to the gate out there. he saw me and he came right in the coral and right in the barn.  :) i am pretty happy with the new fence. i can let him out and back in on my own if he keeps this up. i wanted to catch all this on my camera but using a cane and watching out for me and maybe could not do. i will catch him out there when he is already out there.

5:16 Yay I am almost average. LOL
Another boring weather day.  All grey and dull with no wind or rain or snow.  Not even reliably frezzing at 33 degrees.  I guess I have SAD to day.  Seems I am hard to please. LOL
Cal, I am pleased to here of Indy's attitude in the new fence.  I am also glad to hear you likes it too.  Thanks for the glowing report and Maybe's participation.  Your words painted a vivid, and sometimes tense, picture of his outing and Maybe's narrow escape. Whew!
Hi Neva, glad to hear you are doing ok.  We are all praying for our cancer victims.  There are too many.  So much suffering all over the world.  It is overwhelming.  So hard to find peace when I think of it.  I just have to ignore it, put on my coat , and go on about my day.
Which I will now do.  CUL EV1 GBU and GB Ukraine

Tour Bus ...  25:50      74°  (4:29 pm)   Sunny and clear, and a slight breeze.  Another really nice day.

I hope everyone is having the day that they wanted.

Cal...  I guess indy was showing his appreciation by going through the bucking Bronco routine.  That was a very vivid description, I could see it all.  What you and Jim have done for him is great, he has a safe place to be.

Joho ...  We usually find ourselves having to take things one day at a time.  For me it is my brother and daughter (Gabrielle) with cancer.  All I can do is pray and show them that I care, but the ultimate outcome is not in my hands.  You also have to take the time to find the joy in life.  My Ukrainian Grandmother used to tell me, 'you may as well laugh as cry'.  I don't mean to sound preachy. and am talking to myself as much as anyone else.  By the way, my grandmother's son adopted me when I was 11, (my mother's 2nd marriage) but I had her as my grandmother since I was four.  She was wonderful.

Neva, My mother married twice too.  Her mother was the only Grandmother I recall.  I never met my stepfathers mom.  Not sure why.  I will ask my half sisters about her.
What I do remember about life with my Gramma is that her religion was big with her.  She would give us, my brother and I, a little money for our birthday.  She would always demand that we not use it for cigarettes.  I think she was kidding , because I was only five or six years old.
Later as a teenager I recall she would say the same thing but much louder.  I think my brother did buy some.  He was two years older than I.  I did eventually start smoking at age 16, but never used her gifts to buy cigarettes.  Most went for Clark bars. LOL
Sounds like Lindy is unpredictable but lovable.  Cal is happy with him. I am sure.
Good night now. GBU and GB Ukraine

The Year of the Cubs? And the Year the LilyPad Picnic Returns! - UPDATE January 10, 2023

Bear 359 emerging with one of her cubs in 1985
This picture taken on March 30, 1985 of 18-year-old Female number 359 and one of her cubs brought back memories of my feelings when finding mothers with new cubs. It also made me think about this year possibly setting a record for documenting the most clan mothers with cubs so far. Looking at the sheet for Shadow’s Clan we see 19 mothers who had cubs in 2020 or 2021 who should have cubs this year after the good food year of 2022. These are mothers who will turn 5 to 24 years old this month. We also noticed 41 females who will turn 3 or 4 and could produce their first litters this month. I’ve never seen numbers like this, but I guess it is to be expected as the clan grows and more and more females reach breeding age each year.

Included in these bears are the two oldest reproducing females in the clan—RC who will be 24 and Donna turning 23—racing to see who will produce the most cubs in their lifetimes. They have already beat the clan matriarch Shadow who produced 26 known, but possibly 28, cubs in her 28 years of reproduction. It is a close race with RC at 29 and Donna at 28 cubs. RC failed to have cubs last year, letting Donna pull within one cub. Both are due to have cubs this month, so we’ll probably learn this spring how many cubs they had. However, there’s another possibility. Shadow set a record by having cubs at 28. The old record was 26, and maybe not all bears can continue to reproduce that long. Could RC or Donna have reached their max. We’ll see who has cubs and who doesn’t this spring.

Lilypad picnic

Today, Linda Ziobro, aka "Whimzy" let me know that the first in-person Lilypad Picnic since 2019 is returning this July 21-23, Friday through Sunday. That immediately follows the Monday through Thursday July 17-20 Black Bear Field Course, which has three openings. The course that follows the Picnic is full. As always, I’m looking forward to this picnic that Whimzy said will be a big one filled with fun, catching up with old friends, and making new friends. She told me we can stay up to date with the plans for it on the website which will soon have all the information, https://www.lilypadpicnic.com or the Facebook page, “Lilypad Picnic FAN PAGE - Sponsored by NBF” https://www.facebook.com/groups/394411520624410

I always look forward to the Black Bear Field Courses and can again look forward to both. Thank you Whimzy and team for letting us all get together again.

And thank you all for all you do.

5:32 Not too bad.
47 degrees here but dropping they say, and rain is coming.
I will hike to the mailbox soon.  I got up late and am well rested.  Had breakfast at lunch time.  Not sure how to take three a day meds now.  Was 6,  12,  6.  So I missed the first one by five hours.  I think I will crowd the first and second pills, and then stretch out the last ones until 8 or 9 this evening. Should be ok since I usually eat supper at seven.
Hope you are all well today.

  Banana ... 29:57    62°  (4:05 pm)  cloudy/sunny and windy.

Hi everyone.  I hope your day is going well.  Mine is going okay.  No complaints.

Cal, it is good that you can read Indy's moods, I know that an angry mule could do a lot of damage if they wanted to.  I think I mentioned before that I watch a Cam setup of a woman in Massachusetts that raises Great Danes as Mobility support Service Dogs, but she is also a bit of an expert with donkeys and Mules and has some there on her property.  One way that she has people offer treats to the donkeys and mules is put the item in a smallish frying pan and let the animal get it out of the pan.  She has a lot of volunteers and visitors to her property and that is done to avoid bitten fingers, especially on the high school kids and younger kids too.

Joho,   Some kind of an 8 hour schedule might work with you medicine.  Just wondering.  I keep crazy hours, so maybe that just works for me.

Neva, I try to take all my last meds early, because they cause reflux while I sleep if I take them too late.  Only one is three times a day, but it is enough to cause trouble. The two a days are at 6 and 6. So no problem, unless I get up at 11 like today. LOL
I did peek in on your Danes cam.  All is calm there now. Will look in again.  Thanks for the link.

hi you guys been without internet since yesterday morning  :( i google in a phone can be access point and Most smartphones can be turned into an internet access point that your other devices, such as tablets or other phones, can connect to. These are called Wi-Fi hotspots, and they can be indispensable when you need to access the internet with other devices. i remember missy using her once so i would like to just get another phone for that keep my same flip phone. my provider said they had a power outages and so many of us they could not get in sinc i had wifi but no internet said to call provider. upsetting to not have it for sure

hi neva indy is very different than a horse that he can kick out sideways horses can not straight back so he is something to watch for he did now want to comb out and lifted his back leg sideways but i was on the other side of the gate i could not take a blow from him. i hope down the road that changes jim knows a guy he has jack his mule and took about a year he said but now he can do anything with jack. just take some time i can read that pretty good ears laid flat back lifting leg sideways okay be on my way. nothing to see here.  :) i went to that dog cam too but i saw like a frozen lake river? no dog

hi joho we got some sleet this morning it is cold out indy in the barn today. i am now trying to catch on ac furnace stuff now and do this and that. be back to being warm 50 i think sunday or so.

Tufted Puffin ... 23:52    73°  (2:22 pm)   Clear, sunny and a mild breeze.

I hope that all is going well for you, so far today.

Hi Alice.

About that Great Dane place that I posted, I have been watching them for years now, so I know when and how things go on there.  It no doubt looks pretty boring if you just drop in, without knowing anything about them.  There are no new puppies at the moment.  They are waiting.  It is a non-profit set up, and the people that apply for and qualify for one of their trained Service Dogs pay nothing for them, where as the dogs are worth a lot.  One of their main things is helping Veterans... and have helped children too.  The horses and mules and donkeys that they have are from an Equine Rescue Network that the daughter runs.  She rescues animals that were on their way to slaughter in Mexico.  Mother and Daughter do good work.  Carlene White (mother) and Janine Jacques (daughter)  The mother is about 85 yrs old.  when she was young.. she ran a business called 'Animal Episodes'.  She supplied and handled animals for movies, TV and commercials.  She has some funny stories about that.    (There are no frozen lakes of rivers on her property, not sure what that might have been. located in Ipswich, Massachusetts)

Cal ...  I sure would be afraid of those kicks.  I have seen some of the animals trying to kick each other.

Joho ...   We are getting three days in the 70s and then about four or five days in the 50s with three of those days being rainy  (I hope).  Actually not anything to complain about here, weather-wise.

5:02 worked good today.  Of course I am fully awake at 5:30 PM.  That helps.
Been raining since 10:45.  Just a good steady rain.  No real wind at all.  Of couse I got my car washed yesterday and do not want to drive on wet muddy roads yet.  This means I had to walk with my umbrella down around the block to my mailbox.  It also means I will be having the two heels of Nickels Italian bread for my sloppy joe sandwich tonight.  That is all I have, and these were for the birds.
Bread is on my list for the first dry chance I get to shop.  Not sure I can hold out, but I will try to keep my car clean.  It looks like several days of rain and snow here.  Winter is back.
I did put the Neva link on my favorites.  It shows several cams around the dog property.  I did miss "The African Show" this morning.
I will try to follow a little closer now that I have seen the entire page.  Lots of interesting aspects are available.
Time to star cooking.  So CUL EV1 GBU and GB Ukraine

Just peeked in on the donkey cam Neva.  Looks like two donkeys and a horse or mule.  The very small donkey is not letting the horse get close to the bucket.  He keeps pointing his rump at the horse and kicking.  These are interesting cams.  Thanks again for the link.
