Good morning everyone- 22 here after a high near 40 yesterday. Most of our snow is gone and hubby made good use of the warmer weather and cut and split some fire wood. I' m looking forward to some warmth from the wood stove in the future.  We do have a splitter so though it was hard work the splitter takes some of the work load.

I have been reading a Tom Clancy book from 1994. I'm sure i read it back then but it's almost like a brand new book. I'd forgotten how "lost" i become in the story, plot lines and the characters he so magnificently weaves. Part of the plot revolves around the Navy and it brings back memories of our jp!  So not much else is getting done around here. I did make a pot of chili yesterday. Funny thing- i didn't have an onion which  i just decided to eliminate. The chili turned out just fine and hubby didn't miss it either. He even had seconds!

Don't know if we'll go out for breakfast pizza or just stay home. We haven't been on a little ride since before Thanksgiving. I talked to my niece who lives in town and told her about us getting covid. She was mortified. She said she would have worried and i said i'm glad she didn't find out. It was her brother who got bird food and aspirin for us while we were in quarantine.

cal- hope you are coping in your neck of the woods.

The pictures of Tasha are amazing. Just think of how nature has given critters a built in clock to tell the bears they might as well sleep for a few months because there's no food to eat!  Good to see that Mom and DM2 were at N2B yesterday. Will that be their nest?? Interesting.

Going back to my book now. Izzy is sitting on the arm of my chair patiently waiting for me to finish typing. She wants to be my "laptop."

Have a great day jewelies!

Good morning everyone-  yesterday was really nice; even izzy went outside. But she went to bed early too.  We watched the Chiefs game- cal- yay!

Steelers play tonight but i have a hard time staying awake until 10 or 10:30. We'll see.

Last week when i went upstairs to get some books to read i noticed that my Christmas cactus had a couple buds on it. Last year it bloomed in February. So i brought it downstairs and it has since set a lot more buds. Probably won't be blooming by Friday but soon. The plant is about a third the size it was last year. This spring i had it in a container outside and the racoons "pruned" it several times. lol  I'll not be feeding those babies in 2021!

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi ev1,
Just wanted to let you all know i just got a nice thank you note from JP's daughter, Judi.  She found a note I had sent to JP to let him know of Joan's passing on 8/10/20.  He may or may not have read the note, but she did, and wrote to let me know why there was no response from JP. She shared that her dad passed on 9/10/20 from covid, just after her mother passed on 8/22/20 from dementia.  It was a sad note indeed.  Three deaths in one short paragraph.
I wrote to invite her to sign into some of the sites JP used to frequent.  I hope she does.
God Bless all those in need today and continue to keep us safe from the virus.

Jo, thank you for telling us about your letter from Judi. How kind it was of her to write to you. Can't imagine losing both parents within a couple weeks of each other. I hope she joins us here at Jewel's. So sad to know that Covid took our Jp. :'(

Daily Updates
Winter Solstice, Tasha, and a Cake - UPDATE December 21, 2020
21 December 2020

Gerry Bear Cake for Dr. Lynn Rogers

On this day of the winter solstice (officially at 4:02 AM), we might also have an opportunity to see planets Jupiter and Saturn so close together that they look like one bright star?the Christmas Star. A similar event is one of the explanations for the Star of Bethlehem. This year, the conjunction of these planets is the closest they have appeared to be in 800 years. They say this bright star will be visible all week long. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/national/2020/12/18/rare-christmas-star-to-be-visible-for-first-time-in-800-years-on-dec-21/

As snow fell and the Christmas Star approached, Tasha was busy rearranging her bedding, which TaughtbyBears recorded from the Bear Center rooftop pondcam in this 3:40-minute video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwMwnDnTqn4 .

To further brighten this time, ?Bear Friends? had Ely?s local ?Cake Lady? deliver the best carrot cake I ever had, topped with the best custom designed icing I?ve ever seen?Gerry the Bear in amazing detail.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone-  thanks johoward for the reply from jp's daughter Judi. I'm glad you invited her to join us. If you are reading Judi- i so miss jp. He was so loved here. Sad to see he passed away from ykw- makes me that much more thankful that hubby and i got through it.

cal- good to hear from you; sending good vibes your way!

Well- i got up extra early to watch the rerun of MNF. Where is my Steeler team that just 3 weeks ago was 11-0?? Wowee.  Iowa basketball tonight at 8 PM. Going to stay up for that- no replays.

I did my first spin class yesterday  in probably at least 3 weeks and it actually felt better than i thought it would.  I went into it with the attitude that i wouldn't push-  just get through. And it felt good. Yay

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies!  Nice day here.

cal... Yes, got my service back on this morning.  I'm seriously going to look for another option.  It's too quiet without tv, and no annoying robo calls, and no advent calendar.  My SIL came over today to see if we could figure out why my toilet is gurgling.  I was told that the vent pipe was probably clogged, but he ran the "snake" down it and it was clear, then ran the hose down it and still gurgled, so turned the water on and flushed the vent pipe out.  Still gurgling... Anyone have any suggestions??  Toilet flushes everything down fine, so I'm not convinced that it could be a clog.  Just belches afterward... lol  How was the Chiefs game?

joho... Nice of JP's daughter to send you a card.  Hated to hear that ykw took him, too.  I see we're going to be rivals in a couple of weeks...   ;)

rues... Yes, I'm proud of both grands.  Hard to believe they're adults now.  We had so much fun when they were little, I miss that.

Did anyone see Jupiter and Saturn together last night?  I looked, even used binoculars, but not sure what I was seeing.  lol  I need to look earlier tonight, when they're higher in the sky, so the trees don't block the view as much.

lupine... I was looking forward to watching football on Sunday, but cable went out in the morning, so missed all of it.  The Steelers lost again??

Have a good evening, Jewelies!

cal and ra- yes the Steelers lost- again. And ben did not look good and he knows it. Read an interview where he claimed responsibility.

Good morning everyone- i had a bit of a sinus headache so i went back to bed. Feel better now. It is 6 out after close to 50 yesterday. The winds have died down too.

I took sil to her appointment and it was super windy but not cold. Appointment went well and  we stopped at a grocery on the way home.  Sil wore purple which she told the doctor is my favorite color. He asked her if it was hers then he gave both of us purple face masks like he wears. What a nice guy!

We're planning on staying inside today. Hubby got the wood stove going yesterday- so nice. Izzy likes it too.

Have a great day jewelies!  cal- Thinking of you.

Merry Christmas Eve, Jewelies!  Hope everyone has a nice day!  No exciting football on today,is there?

lupine... Would you believe my forsythia bushes are blooming??  No leaves, but plenty of flowers!  Weird.

rues...Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow?  I'm having dinner here tonight, staying in tomorrow... just the five of us, eat then presents.  I've got a ham in the slow cooker, and will have mac and cheese, corn, green bean casserole, rolls, jello, and cherry cheesecake to top it all off.  Cleaning is done, so I can relax for awhile.

cal... Are you guys cooking dinner tomorrow or getting some takeout?  I hope Polly is having a nice vacatiion and also helping you out.  Miss your posts...

joho... What are your plans for Christmas?  Is your daughter bringing you dinner?

Hope everyone has a nice day.  Going to call my brothers and avoid taking them away from their families tomorrow.
