Good morning everyone- pretty soggy and warm here and calling for some rain all day. Nothing severe though- yay!

obsver- belated Happy Birthday. hope you did fun stuff!!

Well- i finally cancelled my eye appointment for the end of the month. The person who works there is a friend and she said 2 people in her extended family had the virus and have recovered. And yesterday i got to the grocery a few minutes early and talked with another person outside til they opened. She said they've had new cases in that county and so i need to check with the state website if i can remember how to get in there.

Over last weekend Windows did an update on my laptop. No choice as to whether i wanted the update- it just zoomed off. Well- it eliminated some top sites that i didn't have in my favorites and the state site was one of those. But 2 good results of the update- i no longer have to put in my e-mail address and password. That and-- this is the best part- i can write jewelies- and it doesn't automatically change the spelling.  Maybe computers can learn that if the writer writes something a billion, gazillion times it can be right. lol

Have a great day jewelies!

Juneberries by Mike

This picture of juneberries shows what could have been with more rain. It?s on a bush Mike Johnson watered. Elsewhere on his property rainfall was only 53% of normal, and these favorite berries were scarce or worse.

But as I mentioned before, hazelnuts are looking promising. 2-year-old Joy seems to be looking forward to that. She was pulling down hazelnut bushes today as if searching for them. Do bears know the smell of hazelnut bushes even when they don?t have nuts?

Too good to pass up were two pictures that Bear Center intern Allison Garton snapped today. One is of Lucky taking a break. The other is a very different picture of One-eyed Jack.

Good morning everyone- cal- it is foggy here as well but we only got a half inch of rain. I heard on tv about wal-mart requiring masks and i think best buy too.  My friend who is in my exercise class wears a mask in class. The rec center is the only place i don't wear a mask when i go out.  My friend has serious heart issues and diabetes so i told her to continue wearing her mask.  When i am at the center there have only been 3 or 4 other people there- all staff take their temp when they come in. So i feel safe.

Yesterday evening about 7 PM i saw a doe in the yard fairly close to the house by the flower beds. We were watching her and then a fawn came into the picture- so adorable and little!! Probably the first time the fawn  got to go out to eat. Her mom went into the tall grass and the fawn was so funny- trying to stay with mom but trying to stay on the mowed grass at the same time.  We'll have to look for the pair in the evenings now.

Monarch butterflies flying around yesterday-yay!

On the agenda today it to clean bertha- on sunday i dropped something between the passenger seat and the console and while groping about in there i came up with a pair of socks i didn't know i had. Wonder what else i'll find? Maybe thousands of dollars- lol!

Have a great day jewelies!

Daily Updates
Weather, Bears, and Birds - UPDATE July 16, 2020
16 July 2020

It was a day of variety. Hard rain left the white pine needles glistening. Then the sky turned blue, and the sun reflected off the backs of hummingbirds.Rusty losing his rust

Then Rusty came and showed us that he is losing his namesake fur. His new fur is dark enough that he could look black in low light.

Last evening, 9-year-old Oliana (Daughter of Braveheart) stopped by. I haven?t seen her in years but she was immediately the gentle bear I knew well as a yearling. Oliana is the daughter I hoped would show me more about mother/daughter relations back in 2012 after family break-up. When she disappeared for a month or so, I mistakenly put her collar on a lookalike captive-raised bear that apparently was released into the study area for some reason. We soon realized the mistake when sweet Oliana appeared. That?s when we named the lookalike Noliana.

The Black Bear Field Courses are going to be fun and interesting?and small. One course has 6 participants at this time. Three had four, and two have three. Two were cancelled as 50 people had to drop out. A problem for many was that they could not get flights from England, Spain, Australia, and now Brazil. Because of the drought and the resulting lack of juneberries, we are seeing more bears than ever. Will be interesting. Spaces are open.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- 65 and foggy again; yesterday was a no ac day- ceiling fans and some windows open.

cal-  i decided to go to the farm store and get cat food yesterday. They had reset the store and i ended up walking past all the horse stuff; i thought to myself- if cal were here i could help her haul all this stuff. lol

After cat food i went to the grocery store- old people's hour. Maybe 2 or 3 other people in the store while i was there.  Our cases went way up yesterday and deaths went way up too. ykw- go away!!

I didn't get my car cleaned yesterday- i'll get on it first thing when i get home from the rec center. Maybe i'll go to the local car wash and vacuum the big stuff. Maybe wash bertha too.  We need to mow today. Tomorrow we have a high heat warning- yuck!  flowers love the warn stuff so i'm good with that.

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies! We had a visitor in the backyard last night. I'm guessing it was a raccoon. He dug into a couple of my potted plants and washed his hands on the pool steps! What a mess. I'm guessing he came for a drink of water, too. Got everything cleaned up and hoping this was his only visit. He came a couple times during the winter. Crow wants to get a couple security cameras for out back so we can see who is lurking out there while we sleep!

Cal, I'm so happy Walmart and Sams is doing the mask thing! One dr said if everyone wore masks, the virus could be gone in a matter of weeks. Our county has 199 cases now. Really scary. And yet they still say schools must open. Robin's ofc had a scare last week. One employee came to work with body aches! He is a very healthy person that never gets sick. The boss closed the ofc and sent everyone home. The employee went for testing. Apparently there is a test that takes less than 24 hrs for results. The next morning he reported that he was negative. So everyone was called back to work. Robin said for her own peace of mind, she called the health dept to make sure there was such a test that had fast results. They told her yes! Whew! We all had a restless night worrying that she may have been exposed. She has been so careful. Great update pics! Funny that Rusty is losing his rust color! Lol! I have never heard of Juneberries. They look like blueberries to me! Cute pic of One eyed Jack sticking out his tongue and Lucky relaxing. Nice pic of the hummer. I took my hummingbird feeder down. I've only seen 2 females this summer.  I don't know where they are. :( If you can, take a pic of your baby raccoonies! I'd love to see them! :)

Lupe, my computer updated yesterday. Makes me so mad, too. Crow said his did it last week. I don't like change! One day this week, I was a couple houses down from Robin's when a doe, a yearling and 2 fawns walked right out into the street, crossed and went on through the neighborhood. Thank goodness everyone was driving slow and able to stop. I don't know if they were headed to the river or to a wooded area not far from there. Crow took the truck through the car wash yesterday. I think it was it's first bath this year! Did you hear that the Rose Bowl parade was cancelled? I just hate ykw.

Have a nice day and stay safe!

Good morning everyone- a humid 75 here too cal. Geez- i hope your sister is okay. Twll jim that i said he had to go with you.  lol

Well- this is spray season here in farm country. I heard a plane in the distance and told hubby i needed to get out and do my outside stuff before it got closer. That lad to a discussion on when farmers started aerial bug and fungus control. Hubby said they used to do it with helicopters way back- but we've only seen small planes in the last 20 years or so. About 2 hours later i noticed a heavy duty truck go by our house with tanks of liquid on the back. It stopped just about 100 yards south of our house and just sat there. Lots of times people don't realize our road turns into minimum maintenance not far from us and then try to figure out what to do. Well- this truck just sat there and pretty soon  ---- a helicopter flew in over our field and landed on the truck!!!!! I went out to see and sure enough he sucked up some liquid from the truck and took off and sprayed the field across from us. While it was exciting to see i just hate the chemicals being sprayed- my swallows weren't happy either.

Sending positive vibes to all who need them today and every day.

rues- i did hear about the Rose Parade- it is so far out i'm just amazed it got cancelled this early. ykw is here to stay i think. This is a good time to be retired though i miss travelling. I'll be content with our dives in the country for now.

Have a great day jewelies!
