Good morning everyone- i slept in today then turned on the computer to find and update that changed the look of windows- really hate updates. So it took a bit to navigate all that.

It's a beautiful morning here- i slept 10 hours last night. AC is off at least for the moment. After getting home from the doctors yesterday we ate our lunch that we brought home from Culver's then went out to mow. I made it with 5 minutes to spare before we got rain. Just a half an inch but so thankful for that much. Hubby got a bit wet.  Everything looks fresh and clean outside.

neva- ty for your comments- i surely loved Duke and will miss him.

We've gotten 2  invitations to parties- graduation and grocery shower- that have been altered because of ykw. Whoever knew that stuff would last this long? Now our football season announced that the big 10 will only play conference  games this fall.

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Ra, Cal and Lupe ... and everyone.  There are four of us in this house, hiding out from the virus... especially me.  I'm 78, and with all the underlying conditions that ykw is looking for.  So, I am being careful, and only go out for doctor's appointments and such.  What a mess we all seem to be in, huh?   I have started ordering groceries online from our grocery store, and actually, it is working out quite well.  Other stuff... there's Amazon.  That has been handy too.

The four of us here ... me, of course, and my two youngest daughters-  Josette and Michelle and Michelle's nearly 20 year old daughter, Bella.   (Larry died in November 2017, three days after his 82nd birthday.  We had been married 56 years)  I have plenty of company and help.

I love hanging out here each day.  Thanks.   :)

Good morning everyone- it looks to be a cloudy humid day with maybe some rain later.
cal- i picked up a paper yesterday because the picture on the front page was Bruno- the black bear seen in Iowa and is now in Missouri. He was "seen in Wentzville, Missouri near an interstate with a crowd of about 400 people watching nearby July 5th. Conservation officials determined the bear would have difficulty leaving the area on its own without harming itself or the people gathered."   Bruno was tranquilized and transported to a suitable habitat. The article stated that Missouri has a breeding population of black bears mostly in the southern part of the state.
I looked up that city. It's very close to St. Louis. I hope for the best for Bruno and maybe some good will come from his adventures in that people will become curious about bears and go the NABC.

We had an appointment in the city yesterday and then picked up some stuff at a big pharmacy for hubby's brother and sil. Nursing homes here are still in lockdown.  There is noticeably more traffic and people out.  We wear our masks though as soon as i get outside in the heat it comes off.
neva- we are hiding out too. One of the nurses at the office we were at said her dad got the ykw- was hospitalized twice but is okay now. Said her mom didn't get it and did all the care when her dad was sick. Weird virus!

Doctor told sil that her main concern now is not getting covid because of her compromised immune system. Also told her to be sure to get the flu shot for this fall.

Have a great day jewelies!

hi lupe i read about bruno scary to see him crossing those big highways!  happy it scared mo conservation too. saw woman vet checking him after he was sedated. looking for food girlfriend. good they would not say where bruno was relocated gave vast areas but one was near mark twain natl forest i hope he went down south to there. i know its huge millions of acres rivers eleven point my favorite river back then to take canoe trip on. big favorite for trail riding with your horse mule i never got to that but always dreamed of it.  other bears down in that area. they said unless you provoke harass be mean to a bear they offer no threat now i say you do those things you deserve it. we all need to get our flu shot soon

Hi Jewelies! We got an inch of rain yesterday afternoon when a cold front came through. High winds blew all kinds of leaves into the pool. This morning we put the pool cleaner in and sucked them all out. We were in the pool for about an hour. It felt good until the sun went behind clouds and the wind started blowing, then it was believe it or not chilly! Lol! Calling for rain tomorrow. We need it. Back to 90's all next week.

Neva, wish you'd come visit us more often! I enjoy your posts. I think it is so nice that you and your girls all live together! I'd move Robin back home in a heart beat! Lol! Good idea to stay home and stay safe. We are doing the same.

Cal, our Sunday paper, delivered on Saturday, had the article about Bruno in it. Hope he is in a safe place and lives a long long time with plenty of food and girlfriends! We will be getting our flu shots for certain. CDC says everyone needs to get one. Wish there was a ykw vaccine available now. Those Twinkies, pecan pin wheels and  Little Debbie cakes make my mouth water! There goes my sweet tooth acting up again! Lol!

Lupe, our nursing homes opened up with restrictions a couple weeks ago. Thursday 24 people in the nursing home, over the hill from me, tested positive for ykw! It was 2 staff and 22 residents! We thought we were doing ok with no new cases and then all of a sudden the bottom fell out!

Have a nice afternoon and evening! Stay safe! :)

Daily Updates
Big Harry and an Orphan - UPDATE July 11, 2020
11 July 2020
 Print Email
On June 9 at 9:20 PM, I saw a bear that was extra calm. He had to be someone I knew, but I was slow on the uptake. Then I knew. Big Harry! Big Harry
Big Harry
Very glad to see him. He started coming in the spring of 2003 when we estimated him to be 5 years old, which would make him 22 now. He is showing his age with a lot of gray hairs on his forehead. Another June and Big Harry 6-21-12
June and Big Harry 6-21-12
sign of age is how he walks?a lot like 23-year-old Ted. The white area just above his eyes is his white skin still showing from his overwinter loss of facial hair that happens every year. In fact, we named him Harry to remind us of that annual hair loss. He has grown to know us and be comfortable. He had time to do that in part during mating seasons when he accompanied June who we walked with. He is also the male whose face is right next to June?s as they shared food during mating season on June 21, 2012. It was June that tracked Big Harry down for that meeting.

Orphaned cub
Orphaned cub

Today, an orphaned cub that a resident has been nurturing showed up for a resident to take a photo showing that the cub is growing and will survive. There is a lot to be said for this nature-loving community.

Thank you for all you do.

hi jewelies it is 70 here again but this morning instead of heat it was cool.3 raccoonies 6 babies when i first read orphan my heart sank but someone good has taken care of that little bear. yes dr rogers you have some very very good people up there! so nice to read about goodness and kindness. love seeing big harry i thought he was about teds age. shame animals have to get old too and aches and pain.

hi rues! wow that is a cool pool cleaner you got. that is funny you got cold in the pool. at least robin is close by and you and crow get see her alot! :) robin is very lucky too! i got a box of day old glazed donuts for pearl and them in a bit. she does not eat cherry pie i know you love the cherry pie too i love it too. with cold milk. that is so bad on your nursing home! heat will not kill ykw and the country did not do good enough keeping away from each other probably never will. so a vaccine will do it i hope it did for polio and other stuff.

Good morning everyone- 65 here with a slight breeze- ac off and windows open. Yay!

rues- funny that you got cold in the pool; but after it is so hot just a few degrees makes a difference. We got a little rain last evening that cooled us off. I went to bed with the window open listening to the rain. Put me right to sleep. I can't believe the outbreak at that nursing home- such a shame. That's too close to you- be careful.

cal- i know what you mean about the orphan bear. I am so thankful for the Ely  community.
that little guy looks just fine and is smart enough to know where to go.  i watched our Ted yesterday with his bearsickle. They put stuff in a plastic container (good , yummy beat food) and then freeze it. They gave Ted one right in front of the windows in the visitor center.  He put on a good show getting the food out and then went to the stream to cool off. What a guy!!

Hubby and i watched little greyish birds build a nest in the maple tree close to the porch. The birds didn't seem bothered by our close proximity. Gathering twigs that for them were huge. But flying them straight up to somewhere in the tree. We were sitting and talking on the porch. We also have a sort of nest on a pole north of the house. I think i saw 2 babies in there. Which is amazing- no shade or protection at all. Birds amaze me.

Going for a ride today- we got stuff for everyone else but not us this week. lol So maybe a grocery store today too.

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi ev1,
Love them bears and eagles and falcons and you'uns.  Joan still at LTAC.  Mary saw her today.  They had a good visit.  It is so hard with such severe limitations on visiting, but it is for patient and staff safety so we are glad to cooperate.  We don't want to lose her to covid after the battles she has fought and won lately.
Don't want to be too detailed.  Just want to say prayers are working.  Thank God.
