Daily Updates
Chloe, Andrew, Pixie, and Cubs - UPDATE June 2, 2020
02 June 2020
 Print Email
Five days ago, while Chloe?s suitor who she had recently mated with was on one side of the WRI Pixie with 2 cubs
Pixie with 2 cubs
Cabin, 2-year-old Chloe was playing with 2-year-old Andrew and was very comfortable with him. Chloe is on the left, Andrew on the right. The vigor of their play with open mouths and teeth showing is what makes this kind of play portrayed as fighting by dubbing ferocious sounds in on TV or movies. In real life it is harmless and silent. We?ll see next year if Chloe?s cubs have a blaze like Andrew?s or no blaze like the suitor.

Yesterday, Donna?s 5-year-old daughter Pixie stopped by the neighborhood with her second litter. Her first litter, in 2018, was a single female Dakota who survived the peril of being a single cub. This year she had two brownish cubs who are still of unknown sex. One sticks very close to Pixie. The other is more independent. Both have white V?s. Pixie has a distinctive blaze and has brown that goes up her forehead.

Good morning everyone- 74 and muggy here with rain on he way. Doesn't look like it will amount to much. Well- this morning was fun- I was up at 3 and I put bowls of dog food out- water bowl dirty- changed that. A little later I heard clunking about on the porch. Windows were open and even though I had my ear buds in I could hear the commotion. I turned the light on and there was one adult with 5 half grown babies. Oh my gosh- how cute they are. And what a mess they made. One baby was sitting in the water bowl and another was using his hand to slosh water out on the side. The small food bowls were empty and flipped over. Flipping them is not easy. They are heavy rubber or plastic and with sloped sides. When I turned on the light everyone scattered. I cleaned the water bowl and put out  more food. The adult came back to drink. Then I turned off the light. I'm pretty sure they all got food.

We mowed yesterday and I worked in the flower beds. I have some white irises that are just gorgeous but they are tall and get knocked over in heavy winds. In the past I've tried to pick them up and tie them to a stake but usually they break so yesterday I cut a bunch and made a bouquet for the back porch.  It was dry enough for me to mow in the morning- got up to 90 in the afternoon. Yuck!!!

cal- i'm with you- just can't watch the news. I watch Ted; and I watch Decorah too. play my games.

Have a great day jewelies!

Hello everyone- woke up to a killer headache this morning. I was up for about 30 minutes then decided I needed to go back to bed with an ice pack on my head. I just got up and ate a little and now feel I am back on the side of the living. Don't know what precipitated the ailment.

Yesterday we went to Cantril for a sale they were having on frozen beef. We needed a few other things too and it sure was nice to make a road trip. Unfortunately the vast majority of people in the store and there were a lot of them- had no masks on. It was impossible to keep social distancing. We just got what we needed and got out of there. On the way down we had decided to go to one of our favorite restaurants. However, after being exposed to so many people at the store we had a makeshift picnic at a bench along the Des Moines River in Keosauqua.

Poor griz- took him a long time to recover- how old is he?
Have a great day  jewelies!

Hi Jewelies!  Really hot here today...  I had a guy come and pressure wash my house this morning.  It looks so much better!  I was going to do it myself, but decided I'm too old!  lol  Yesterday I went to Lowe's to pay off my charge with the rebate card I got from them.  Said they couldn't do it... glad I had talked to one of the managers already and he said they'd figure it out.  I stood at the service desk for over 1 1/2 hours!!  Got to know the one manager that gave me the loaner and told him how much I appreciated it.  I told him about all the trouble I had with them and I think he felt sorry for me... he eventually took the money out of his own account, so I could go home. I didn't tell him that I wouldn't be back any time soon... figured I'd get more done if I was nice.  Hopefully, NOW I'm finished with the refrigerator saga!

cal... Poor ole Griz!  Glad he got over his trauma now.  He's pretty old for such a big dog!  Good to hear you have a plan in place for the next snake you see!  lol  I noticed yesterday that our gas prices have gone up 10 cents since the last time I drove through town.  I got 3 loaner books from my library yesterday.  What an ordeal!!  You find what you want online and place a hold on them, then they call you when they have them.  Then, when you get there you stay in your car and call to tell them you're outside and they bring them out and put them on a table, but you can't get out of your car to get them until the person is back inside.  I'm really tired of ykw.

rues... The black cloud is still hanging around me and my daughter... her refrigerator went out!!  She had to order one and won't get it for 2 weeks. They're luckier than me though... they have two old ones that still work and can put their stuff in them and not have to get a loaner.  I think it's time for some good luck to come our way!!

lupine... So sorry to hear you had such a bad headache!  I'm glad you got your meat... are the prices up?  They are here.  Supply seems to be good, but it would be nice to have the prices go back down.

Hi to everyone!  And, Peace to all!

Good morning everyone- warm and humid out here with rain just starting. From the radar it looks like strong storms are on the way. I was up at 3 and put food out on the sidewalk for the racoons. Hubby and I decided to not use bowls. They make such a racket and make a mess of the porch. So I made little piles on the sidewalk plus I got an old litter pan out and made it into a swimming pool for them. It looks like a mud bowl so it got lots of use. I have it ight beside a hydrant so it will be easy to fill.

I couldn't believe I could sleep last night after staying in bed until noon yesterday. 8 more hours last night. Hubby took his sister for a bandage change yesterday. I still wasn't 100% at noon. Feel great now. Hubby got AC in yesterday so the house is quite comfortable. I'm thinking that the headache was a result of heat and dehydration. When we ate lunch out we didn't stop to get water. I'm a huge water drinker. Don't know if that caused my headache but am glad it went bye-bye!

ra- the store where we went had frozen T-bones for $6.99 a pound. They were pre-packaged so we won't know the quality til we try them. The store where I usually buy them on sale is $5.99 a pound so I guess the price was up. They didn't have many in the case but they had tons of other meats- pork, chicken and beef.
While we were gone the price of gas here went up 20 cents. Huh!! What is that all about?

cal- glad the beagles left; how old are penny and brownie now- 2 or 3??

Have a great day jewelies!
