Good morning everyone- well warm and humid here with a flash flood watch out here for today. Maybe an inch of rain. At least that will be the sign of a turning point with cooler temps for the next 3 or 4 days and less humidity.
cal- I agree with you- sure looks like ted could use a bigger tub! Yesterday when I was sitting on the back porch reading a squirrel came walking by very close to me- very nonchalant and calm. Of course no cats were there so no need for alarm though my 2 are so old they may not have bothered with a squirrel.

I had a ykw emergency yesterday- I used the last of my toilet bowl cleaner- Yikes. I'm picky and get the only one that cleans well- Hubby said didn't Menards have it. No, I checked. The 2 groceries that carry it are big stores- our local grocery doesn't have it. So next week i'll have to go to one of them.  My sil has her last chemo tomorrow- Yay!- so I guess I can go to a store with my mask. It's hard to believe that I haven't been to a bigger grocery- Fareway or Hy-Vee since March. Our freezer is getting down also. One good thing is I found some mushrooms that I had saut?ed and put in small containers last fall. I had forgotten about them. Hubby usually hauls stuff to the freezer in the basement and he leaves stuff in grocery bags- so they were all together.

Well- I just checked and mama racoon has been here- I missed her. She seems to be coming earlier every day.

johoward- glad you guys got out- feels good, doesn't it.
Time for breakfast here--- have a great day jewelies!

29 May 2020
 Print Email
Samantha?s 4-year-old Fred visited today and has made himself easy to tell from his lookalike sibling Ricky. Fred now has a distinctive scar over his right eye and a small scar near the tip of his nose. He is still the nice bear he was as a yearling. Good to see himFred

Last night 2-year-old Chloe had an unidentified suitor that she mated with for over 20 minutes. I hope we get a better chance to see who he is to look for ?Like Father, Like Son? markings if there are any when Chloe gives birth this January and emerges next spring with them.

"Taught" and "Happy Cub" captured some pictures of Chuck that are amazingly sharp with beautiful color, and big depth of field. I hope Chuck has babies.

Good morning everyone- yay for you ra- I was just going to go back to see when the post was about jewel being spotted with 4 cubs. I hope you get your new fridge today. Fingers crossed.

cal- we got just under an inch of rain yesterday and no really hard rains but I bet it's soggy here. Around here they say never drive through water over the road so I held my breath til I saw you got over. Phew!

It is beautiful here- clear and no clouds and humidity is gone.

Last night I decided to put a bowl of food out for mama R. I was in bed reading but had the window open to the back porch and sure enough I heard her chomping away. And she had 2 babies with her. So cute. but she wouldn't let them eat. Watched for a long time. She knows i'm there but doesn't seem bothered by my presence. She ate a long time and then left when I think another lone racoon came up to the bowl. Then she was back. I'm not sure if there was 2 different ones or not. They need name tags. Anyway it was fun watching them. No one has come yet this morning.  I may put 2 smaller bowls out with food tonight along with the big one for mama R.

Long day today- last chemo scheduled for sil. So glad.

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies!  Well... no fridge today.  I didn't hear from the delivery yesterday, like he said he was going to do, so this morning I called Lowes and asked if we were still on for today.  Nope, we have you down for Monday.  I think I'm going to be finished with Lowes for awhile.  This has been a long, brutal ride and I'm sick of it.  Yesterday, I got an email from Experian telling me that my email address has shown up on the Dark Web.  Great.  So I changed my password, and have been dealing with a lot of issues ever since.  My email keeps dumping me and telling me to login, then when I do, it tells me log out successful.  Geez. (well, I haven't really been saying geez... I'm cleaning it up a lot)  I feel like I could keep up with Jim and Crow!!  lol

rues... I'm tired of this black cloud you mentioned.  Time to send it out to sea or something.

lupine... I love that you get to watch Mama Raccoon and her little ones!

cal... Don't you hate to see the destruction and violence in Minneapolis.  Why are they punishing the shop owners and the town??  I'm glad the cop was arrested and is held responsible... what about the other 3 that didn't step in?  Such a shame that our country does stuff like this.

joho... Hope you enjoyed your evening out!

Daily Updates
Ted, Carolyn, A Blast from the Past - UPDATE May 29, 2020
29 May 2020
 Print Email
Ted is breaking the mold and pacing a bit lately. I?m not sure why. I blame everything on Covid-19 and might as well include this one, too. Pacing generally comes from lack of stimulation. Carolyn with her cub
Carolyn with her cub
I would not be surprised if Ted is missing people. By now we should be open with group after group going behind the scenes to see Ted. I hope we can open soon, especially for Ted?s sake. Or there might be another explanation for the brief periods of pacing?that Ted is excited. Instead of people coming to see him, a couple bears?a cinnamon-colored bear and the black one that made it inside the outer fence a week or so ago?are visiting outside the fence lately as if they don?t have anything better to do but be near Ted. It is mating season. Whatever is the right explanation, I still wish we could open sooner rather than later.

Chloe's suitor
Chloe's suitor
With mating season upon us, family break-up is upon us, too. Braveheart was starting the process with her 3 yearlings yesterday, chasing a yearling up a tree and going off by herself. She has a history of being indecisive about it. A couple years ago, she was back and forth on it for several days. Each bear is different. We?ll see how she does it this year.

Donna was still with her four yearlings a couple days ago on the 27th.

Fern was seen on the 26th alone. There might be more to tell about that one of these days.

A neighbor from a couple miles away sent a picture of Carolyn with one of her 3 cubs looking healthy.

This evening, the male that was mating with Chloe stopped by for an ID picture to begin the search for a matching picture to see who he is.

Half birthday picture
Half-birthday promo picture
It seemed like a blast from the past to see the cute Half Birthday Picture with hats on Lucky and Holly in their most playful days of yore and cute names for the bears: Ted-E ?Ladies Man? Bear, Lucky ?The Charming Entertainer? Bear, Holly Bear ?Miss Sassy Sassafras,? and Tasha Bear ?Miss Kentucky.?

Then, with her suitor here, 2-year-old Chloe appeared with 2-year-old Andrew playing. More on that tomorrow. Things are getting exciting.

Thank you for all you do.

hi jewelies it is 55 here 64 in the barn 4 raccoonies one following me everywhere had a pocket full of cookies tossing them out to her had pearls cinnamon buns iced the big ones sweets pecan sandies. i hate ted is pacing. that boy will wear himself out with that. im sure he is not thrilled over those two strange bears but ted at least company. hope the bear center opens soon this virus one big mess. rats to you china double rats. chloes one night stand nice looking  nice holly and lucky still bbf.

hi ra! darn it still no fridge and you had to call them to find out! yes hope you can be done with them for awhile. we still have a sears outlet down in the city when our dryer quit jim went down there and got a new one he fixed the old one i liked it better had a bigger door and open to the side the new one smaller door and opens straight down and that spring on it shuts real fast if you dont have down all the way just right he gave our old one to ron and dee theirs quit and ron not up to fixing anything right now. i was just watching cnn showing those protesters had smashed the windows there almost into the building reporter showing some of the rocks could of killed someone. now that is not the answer at all never is. also prosecutors looking into going after the other 3 officers in that. destroying all the business robbing that target makes me sick maybe they should not rebuild any of that. i hope the ones on tape they get and prosecute them for stealing. i saw awhile aback on our local news the kickapoo native americans in kansas had put in a request to get mask gloves still had gotten no stimulas check or unemployment they have a big casino been shut down due to ykw and they got sent body bags. that is it.  >:( but did they burn down stuff no of course not got a lawyer. thank goodness the bear are way up north of that.

i am going to try to mow the dogs yard today let it dry out yesterday getting where it could be baled. water starting coming in pearls ares it comes up from underneath so hoping no more rain for at least a week next week said very hot 80 90,s humid hate that but maybe no rain till thursday. griz is barking barking barking

Good morning everyone-  cool, clear morning here. I had a late-night last night trying to see mom r. and babies. I put out a big bowl of food and 2 smaller ones- never saw the mom and babies but a big male (I think) came and ate a whole bowl. When I took that bowl in to refill he went to work on the 2 small bowls. When he finished them I said- You have had enough and brought all the food inside. That was at 10 PM. What a bummer!! While he was eating my 2 cats came up to the porch and got on my chair to sleep. The cats and racoon pretty much ignored each other. I was glad for that.

Sil's last treatment went well- the nurses gave her a certificate and had a little ceremony where she read a short poem and rang a bell to signify that she made it through the treatments.  The staff at the infusion center are really top notch. We saw her doctor before the treatments- he wants her to keep the PIC line in for 2 more weeks just in case she has a reaction or spike a temp, etc. So 2 more trips- one to get bandage changed then hopefully one trip to get PIC out.  Doctor says to schedule PET scan for early July to see if chemo worked.
ra- I can't believe your fridge saga- what a pain.
cal- hope you get your mowing done; my lawn care people came yesterday and sprayed for broad leaf stuff. So glad because of especially creeping charlie. I was beginning to think they had forgotten about us.

I feel so bad for Ted- maybe the summer interns will be there soon.  hope they open soon.

time for breakfast- have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies! Been watching coverage of the rioting on MSNBC. I'm for the peaceful protesters but those agitators causing all the destruction have to stop it.   >:(

Cal, just heard on the news that someone at that big pool party tested positive! Now all those people may come down with ykw! Stupid people. Almost everything here is open for business now. Governor asks that we continue social distancing and wear a mask  but seems fewer and fewer are doing that now. It's like they think ykw is gone! Crow, Robin and I still wear our masks. Crow and Robin both have compromised immunities so they can't take any chances. I don't want to bring it home to either of them so I will continue to wear my mask no matter how much I hate that thing! Great to hear that Jewel is ok! And has 4 cubs! Glad that Jim is feeling better!

Ra, so sorry about all the problems and delays you are having trying to get a new fridge! Who would think it would be that hard to get a refrigerator?!  I hope that black cloud is on it's way out to sea!

Lupe, glad that sil is finished with her treatments! I bet she is glad that's over! I have that annoying creeping Charlie in my yard, too. Robin's entire backyard is full of it! I've spent almost all day planting annuals. We went to that huge garden supply store yesterday and I finally got almost everything I wanted. Last year it was hard to find lantana. This year there is a shortage of marigolds! I couldn't find any at Lowe's, Home Depot or Walmart. I thought for sure the garden center would have them. They said they had gotten some in last month but sold them all. And there is no reorder. So I got red begonias instead. I used to start marigolds from seed but got lazy and got the plants instead. I also got a flat of zinnias! I always started those from seed, too! Still haven't gotten any mulch! Maybe this week.

Jo, my sis and I rode our mountain bikes on various rail trails about 10 years ago. We had so much fun. But then sis's knees started hurting so we quit ridding. I hung my bike up on a hook in the garage and didn't ride again. Last week when we decorated graves we started talking about how much we enjoyed ridding together. We decided to try it again. So on Monday we dusted off our bikes and went for a short ride around town. And short it was! We were gone almost an hour and  we didn't get far. Sis's knees started hurting so badly that we had to take 3 looong breaks! Lol! We haven't ventured out again. I did realize that I love ridding my bike! I just don't like ridding alone. Hope Joan is having a nice day!

Happy to hear that our Obsver is ok! Sure do miss her!

Have a nice evening! Stay safe!

hi jewelies it is 59 here 66 in the barn. 5 raccoonies when i came out the side door in the garage to head to the barn one raccoonie was sitting there i tossed her a cookie and she ran to her entrance in the barn. she will not leave me cookie cookie. need to make a cake in a bit. i sure do miss the moon hard to see without it. my outdoor light by that side door a big bush grows in front of it so blocks out my light but birds sleep in and sit in it.gives shade to my bathroom too.

hi rues! oh riding a bike would be fun doubt i could do that anymore and no where to ride around here for sure havent even rode my 4 wheeler this year may do that next week. charge the battery up in it. i am very happy you will not ride alone! im am so mad over these riots. showing people smiling and laughing throwing rocks sitting building on fire with people in those building! should be arrest for attempted murder! mayor of kc was talking about not destroying our city tons of protesters at the plaza park. jim and i saw on the news ca a man with a baseball bat walking on the highway and just smashing people windows in their cars i am with jim if that was me run him over. cant believe someone did not have a gun and shoot him have a right to protect your property and your life.  i know all this and ykw still attacking. jim and i will be wearing our mask out in public for a long time. more stuff to open monday my niece jeanne goes back to work monday ca goes back to ford on monday ford jim already went back  ca is with transit.

hi lupe! i hope you get to see the baby raccoonies today and they and their mom get some food. you can put it out in the morning anytime you are ready and she will probably come have her get use to your hours put some at night too. i know they are early risers real early so she could eat early and maybe come back later on.
