Good morning everyone- it is 44 here and not a cloud to be seen after a rather dismal day yesterday. Sun just coming up.
cal- our winds must have been about 50 mph yesterday too. It is calm now but haven't had the tv on the news yet. I saw on the web site for our library that they are opening for people to check out books. You have to get the titles you want from your computer at home and call in. They have them ready for you. I don't know if they bring them out to you or what. Also when books come back in they keep them quarantined and disinfect before letting them out again. A sign of a new normal??? I hope! We really miss the rec center too. Maybe that will be next though I can't imagine exercising with a mask on. I sweat in my mask just grocery shopping. lol Hmmm- maybe grocery shopping counts as cardio?!?

Time for breakfast here.
Have a great day jewelies!

Good morning everyone- nice morning here- clear and no wind--yet. It is May Day. Years ago when the neighborhood kids were little they would bring us wild flower bouquets in secret. Of course this time of year they were mostly dandelions with a few violets from the yard. Great fun for us all.
I visited (at a distance) with a neighbor yesterday. I called her to let her know I had an excess of asparagus so she came down to pick it up. Everyone in her house likes it. She is also my hair stylist and we both said we need hair cuts. She said new guidelines are coming for when she can open up and she's glad. Meanwhile we'll have another month of staying at home as much as possible and wearing a mask when we're out.
The trip for the bandage change was uneventful- except that when we had to stop for a short time at construction I turned around to read a sign by the road I noticed on the way up. It was a sign for mulch. Anyway just as I turned around to read the sign our line started moving and the guy behind me honked at me. Truly- it was a slow moving line so I didn't really hold anybody up for more than a few seconds.  Oh well.
Yesterday I dug up all my daffodils and a few more naked ladies. The bed looks a lot better now- not so crowded. My fern peonies are getting ready to open soon.

Today i'm going to maybe finish digging up that tall hosta in the barn garden. It is hard going- many breaks. I have a chair out there. Oh and I need to get the chair cushions down from upstairs. Also I aired out the cats sleeping bag and found a spot where a  stray cat sprayed on it. PU  So it has to be laundered. And I need to mow later.
cal- can your racoonies get out of the barn or are they sometimes not hungry?

johoward- how are you guys??

Have a great day jewelies!

Daily Updates
Big Bear Visit and More - UPDATE May 1, 2020
01 May 2020
 Print Email
A bear that could reach up 89 inches visited here overnight, but there were no eyes of the night to give details or a picture. Maybe better tonight. Action is starting.American merganser pair

Yesterday, I saw something I haven?t seen before?a raven with bologna. I don?t know where it got it. I suspect a gull that leaped up to catch it and continued in flight dropped it.Raven with bologna

Red maple flowers are beginning to burst. Barely started at this time, these flowers show male stamens clustered in the buds ready to extend. Red maple buds burst into flowers before leaves form, and female flowers become mature seeds before the leaves are fully formed. A red maple tree can have all male flowers, all female flowers, or some of each.

Out the window, waterfowl are battling over females. A couple days ago, four American mergansers (3 males and a female) arrived in tight formation, landed, and went at it. The female?s mate must have defended her well because shortly after the interlopers kept their distance?20-40 yards. The female calmly followed her mate and stayed close by him when they stopped to preen after the battle. They both looked unscathed. The interlopers paddled toward them a couple times but stopped about 20 yards away. One of them soon flew off.

A few minutes later, a male bufflehead vigorously chased a male that came too close.

A calmer scene was mother deer licking the faces of their fawns from last year or eating with their heads together?a scene that will cease in about a month when the mothers give birth.

Good morning everyone- nice morning here and not real cold but the furnace just came on. A few clouds too. Yesterday it started out sunny but clouds came in. Perfect for gardening for me.  I dug out more of that hosta and then realized that I was leaving a huge hole so I went to my local nursery for replacement "shorter" hosta. I got 2 different ones- one with white and green leaves and one with green and yellow leaves. Funny thing while I was out digging there I found a plant stake for an evening primrose! I must have planted  that 20 years ago. The plant didn't survive but the label did. After I put in the 2 new hosta I went to sit in my chair to view them and realized the little bit of old tall hosta I was digging out was still going to block my view. So sometime in the next few days I need to go back out there. Sigh...

I mowed yesterday too and am finding more little projects to do. Creeping Charlie is on the rise again. That stuff has the cutest little blue flowers but it will take over if allowed. And the mole is showing up in places too.

cal- your barn is an oasis and safe place for so many critters. Cousin Janice did it again. Great post- I just can't understand the protesters. If just the protesters would get infected I say well okay. But they in turn would put others at risk is just not right.

Time for breakfast here-  have a great day jewelies!

Joan not doing well.  Vivid hallucinations all night and day for last two nights.  Asleep and awake.
Diarrhea finally better this morning.  She ate about 1/2 her first breakfast sandwich in a week, and a cup of coffee.  This is her usual breakfast.
She ranted at, and about, all manner of weird things and people from 3 am till 6:30 am.  Then got up pretty steady, but continued to talk to folks and pets long gone while she nibbled her breakfast. She went back to bed at 7:30, but is constantly rambling and mumbling on now.  I have no idea what is going on with her mind, but it sure is scarry.
May God help her today soon.  Sob!

I'm so sorry, joho.  You two have a lot on your plates these days.  At least she's home...

Hi Jewelies!  A little chilly here this morning... around 40!  I got up early and took my cats to the vet for rabies shots... first come, first served, so I got there early and was first in line.  They have a tent set up in the parking lot, then you go straight to your room from there.  A little chaotic though...

cal... Love the update pics!  Thanks for bringing them to us and for the puzzles and dog shames, too.

lupine... I have a hosta that needs to be thinned, but I'm thinking it's too late to do it this spring... maybe in the fall.

Hope all have a good day!

hi joho. i feel so badly for you guys thanks for posting almost sounds like maybe some medicine causing joan to do that does she have some dementia? was there no instruction from dr or hospital when she came home?  i hope she gets better very soon this just might be too much for you. :(

hi lupe ra i feel same about protesters if you get it fine but you spread it not fine and believe me every one of you will be old some day and it will come way faster than you think. ra your cats are so good! i went to walmart again but just got a gift card i saw a boom box like one in the barn wanted to buy it with a gift card not my credit card. back up one then feed store get pearls pine pellet soak up all her pee. threw cookies off little wooden bridge then drove on down saw tv might of been one of scouts family on side of the road pulling something eating it so i stopped my car. he or she was taking along time so i crept up stayed on the side as much as i could tv dragged it back  off the road good tv! i drove past it what a pretty bird really told it that too such a pretty bird.

Good morning everyone- don't know what happened here- gremlins or ykw?? lol

We just got back from a short excursion for breakfast pizza and to a store to get cat food. Very few people wearing masks but we did. Cloudy and cool here. Makes me really appreciate the sun when it is out.

Have a great day jewelies!
