Cal, Trigger is a good name for your Roomba! I'll have to ask Robin if the ofc Roomba has a name. Bill, her boss probably doesn't know you are supposed to name them! That last Blacklist was good! I guess every once in awhile they will have something with Liz and her mom. As fast as time seems to pass by now, March will be here soon! My sis and I didn't go to Walmart today! She called this morning to tell me she was sick! She never gets sick but that intestinal bug finally got her! Seems everyone I know has it or had it! Crow has a mild case of it now. I decided to stay home and forgo Walmart today. There was nothing that I absolutely had to have.

Ra, it was 55 when I went to bed last night around 11. Today it's in the high 60's. Would be warmer if the sun would come out. Rain is on its way later tonight, tomorrow and everyday next week! But warm, so I'm not complaining. My kind of winter, too! Hope the tree is down and gone when you get home!

Lupe, hoping you get home before the weather gets bad!

Have a nice evening!

Daily Updates
A Memorable Stream and Tree, Bear Educators Needed - UPDATE January 10, 2020
10 January 2020
 Print Email
Revisiting memorable places with my sister Joyce in Michigan, one of the places was Mill Creek that looks much the same as when I was a teenager. Mill Creek
Mill Creek
I remembered my many days slowly moving up the stream crouched low to avoid detection as I held my casting rod low to the water making short casts to likely riffles for brown trout. Eventually, my fascination with the stream and trout became a desire to see how they lived. Watching them from a high bank wearing Polaroid glasses or underwater wearing a face mask, I watched them forage and, upon detection of me, disappear under a bank or rock. On this trip, I noticed that the oak leaves that covered the ground had rounded lobes making them members of the white oak group that produce the black bear?s favorite acorns. Oak leaves
Oak leaves
Oak leaves of the less favored red/black oak group have pointed lobes. I had grown up exploring favorable bear habitat that had no bears.

Another place we visited was where several of us boys played tree tag, trying to mimic Tarzan until I miscalculated a jump. A branch I leaped from was too springy and I didn?t quite make it to the branch in the next tree. Catching it with only one hand, I couldn?t hold my grip as my body swung under it and up. The last thing I remember is seeing the branch disappearing up toward the sky as I fell. The next memory is my buddies asking me if I remembered where I lived as we walked into view on my house. I was in the hospital for several days with a concussion. No, it does not explain anything about my behavior today. When I visited the tree a few days ago, all that was left was the stump cut off at ground level (picture to the left). A local told me the trees were cut down two years ago because they were old and diseased.Tree stump

People asked if the picture in the January 4 update of "Lynn, Donna, and Mama" was of my birth mother or my mother who raised me. That photo was taken about 1980 with my adoptive mother 3 years before she died at 80, a year after Donna and I got married.

Good morning everyone- ya cal- you got in the barn. We have ice here too but I've only been to the back porch. Yesterday we left the city at 3 in a pretty hard rain. When we pulled in to sil' s driveway we noticed little icicles hanging off the siding. Whew- we really lucked out. When we got home I stepped onto the wooden steps to bring in the bird feeder and they were icy. what timing.  I believed it sleeted for a long time- will be interesting to check when it gets light.  Just a dusting of snow on the ice but heavy snow and wind expected later.  A good day to stay inside.
ra- so glad you got that tree taken care of. They do make a mess. Though I usually get sad to see a tree- any tree- taken down. The whole list of inflammatory foods is from the Arthritis Foundation and Mayo clinic and maybe from other sources. I did a ton of research-1. sugar  2. trans fats- fast food, processed food, cookies, donuts, crackers, vegetable oils 3. refined carbohydrates- white flour, potatoes, rice 4. gluten (wheat) and casein (dairy)  5. aspartame 6. alcohol  7. saturated fat from meat  8. fried food  9. MSG   10. processed meat  11. additives   12. iodized salt 13. peanuts and 14. night shades- tomatoes, etc.  Some of these I've been able to eat occasionally and everybody is different.

Have a great day jewelies!

Good morning, Jewelies!  Rain has started, but going up to 70 today.  Glad we don't have to deal with ice like you guys are!!

lupine... What CAN you eat??  I guess I know why I'm so stiff!  Everything I eat is on that list!  I hate to see trees go down, too, but I'm glad for that one to be gone.  I'm not getting any younger and that tree always was such a mess... dropping nuts, leaves, and lots of sticks.  They also took a tree down that was hanging over the road and wasn't healthy.

cal... So glad you were able to get in the barn!  I bet your kids were wondering why you weren't there on time!  Be very careful on that ice!  I know you already know that, but had to say it any way!  lol

rues... The tree is down, but they had to leave all the wood... their loader wasn't working.  Said it might be two weeks before they come to get it.  I'm hoping somebody who needs some firewood picks it up before then.

Hope everyone has a good day!  I wish the big game was today instead of Monday!

Good morning everyone- it's 22 here. We didn't get but a dusting of snow on top of the ice that didn't melt at all yesterday.  I didn't even try to get into bertha yesterday- hoping we get a little sun today to warm her up and I can get the ice off.
ra- in answer to your question about what can I eat- vegetables, berries- small amount, all kinds of protein- eggs, chicken, fish, beef. Of course there are guidelines for those. As to beef- grass fed- grass finished. Hard to get here. Eggs from pastured chickens- again- hard to get in the grocery store. I had my eyes opened when I began reading labels on products on the grocery shelves. Eliminating sugar in donuts and cupcakes was easy but there is sugar by so many names- sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, etc.- that it is difficult to sort it all out. Sugar in ketchup, peanut butter and tons of other stuff is crazy.  So whole foods or products with just a few ingredients (5 or less, I think) is best for me. I love yogurt but finding some without sugar is almost impossible. So it is a challenge.

Good story- happy ending- Thursday hubby split some wood because weather was changing and going to get wet. Our splitter is kept in a shed that is next to hubby's shop. There are 2 large garage doors he uses to get in there. He left the doors open all afternoon while he worked. He came in at dark and shut the doors. On Friday morning I was missing a cat- Shadow- when by noon she didn't show up I asked hubby to open the shed to see if she got stuck in there. He checked- no Shadow. When we got back just as ice was starting he went back up- opened the door and called- no Shadow.  We had almost accepted that she was gone. Saturday morning I told hubby I was going out to burn trash- our burn barrel is close to the shop. I knew it was icy but I was careful.  I just wanted to be out for a long time.

I called the whole time I was out. Tried to clean up a few small downed branches but they were frozen down. Then I started to walk around the back of the shed where the splitter was kept.
I heard a meow!!! There was a smaller building there but I couldn't put the meow in there. Went closer to the back of the shed and the meowing got louder. Went around to the front of the shed- one door was frozen shut but I got the other open and boy- did I get an earful- I never heard her in all of her 15 years be that vocal! Not quite sure what she was saying and I have no idea why she didn't come out when hubby opened the door. So thankful. Hubby was amazed that she was in there- guess I will have to be the one to go look for her from now on. lol
Have a great day jewelies and Go Chiefs!!!
