Feeling Blessed - UPDATE January 8, 2020
08 January 2020
 Print Email
Back home after 3 days with family and old friends in Michigan and feeling blessed. They were eventful days with restful evenings at daughter Kate and Adam?s house with special company from 15-year-old granddaughter Veronica?s dog Bitty.Lynn and Bitty
Lynn and Bitty
The time together with everyone makes me doubly feel what is in the final section of the bio that Deb Isaacs has been writing about me. That section, entitled ?It Takes a Village: A personal message from Lynn Rogers? begins with ?I remain eternally grateful to my mother for giving me life and to my adoptive parents for giving me unconditional love and fostering my interest in nature. I am forever thankful for my loving family who all mean so much to me. My wife, Donna, encourages my research and made my dream of a North American Bear Center her dream as well.? The main reason for the trip was to spend time with my failing birth mother of 97.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- it's 35 here and I think the wind has let up a bit for now. cal- the wind you are having is heading our way. Just saw the forecast and we have snow chances Friday afternoon through Saturday. Yay!! And next week temps are going down- maybe into the minuses for morning. We'll see.

Just love the picture of Dr. Rogers with the dog asleep on him. That pooch looks exhausted!

It didn't take too long for me at the dentist- she had to do some trimming work on the redo so it would let my left side teeth meet the bottom. And it was only $152 so I was pleased. We went to Hy-Vee and I got a chicken breast and some grilled veggies and hubby got a tenderloin sandwich and mac and cheese. We did a little grocery shopping; stopped to get cat food; and dropped stuff off at the Goodwill store.

cal- how is the Roomba doing today?
Have a great day jewelies!

Good morning, Jewelies! It's a sunny 34 outside and the street sweeper just went past my house! In years past, it would have been the snow plow! A big warm up is coming. Now they say 72 on Saturday with rain. I filled the bird feeders earlier this morning. Shortly after I heard the birds in distress. The hawk had come for breakfast. Thankfully all the birds made it to safety deep within the bushes. He took a swoop at a group of the birds in the big azalea next to the porch, missed and flew against the screen on the screened porch! I saw this huge bird's chest and under wings splayed out on the screen. He was beautiful! Just took him a second to compose himself and he flew over to the swing. He was all fluffed out. All the birds were quiet not one moved. A couple minutes later he flew off. Now everyone is back at the feeders and enjoying their breakfast! I have a feeling he will come back sooner or later.

Cal, nice pic of Dr Rogers and Bitty! Glad he was able to visit his birth mom. Crow's birth mom passed away in Dec. She was 93. She lived with Crow's half sister in AZ. We hadn't seen her in probably 30 years. In the last few years we had exchanged Christmas cards. We didn't even know she was in ill health. My family life was idyllic compared to his. I'm excited to hear how Roomba does! I just noticed a dust bunny under the kitchen table! I need a Roomba! Lol! Hope the barn furnace works. Got to keep Pearl warm! At least you know a good HVAC repairman! You have to get a new crown? It's been a long time, knock on wood, since I've had to have one. I have a silver one on a molar. I hate how it looks. All my others are white. Seems like all the dentists around here are merging with other dentists. My old dentist did and that's the main reason why I left his practice. The other was the distance. Now I have a 5 minute drive compared to a half hour! Have you had time to watch the Blacklist winter finale yet? It's a good one!

Lupe, that sounds like a reasonable price for your dental work. That trimming to make the teeth align is always the part I hate! I've even had to go back and have the dentist trim more off! Hope you get some snow!

Have a nice day! :)

I believe this picture of me with Mom Gerry was when she was telling me she?d ?had a good life.?Gerry and Lynn
Mom Gerry and Lynn

The next day, my sister Joyce (75) and I visited the old neighborhood where we grew up and a 5-acre field where our family raised organic vegetables to eat and for me to sell to raise money for college. At first we couldn?t find the old property. The field is now a forest, and the garden is now an upscale housing development. We also visited the stream where I spent a lot of time trout fishing before getting into photography in my 20?s and then bear research.

I?ve been thinking about Gerry and her rapid descent ever since I saw her, so it was nice to have Stripe the Mink waiting for me at our window when I arrived at the WRI today. She made 19 visits for bologna and one frozen deer mouse between 8:30 and 9 AM and another 5 visits for bologna between 3:30 and 3:45 PM.

American Goldfinches like this male in winter plumage spent the day high in a birch tree plucking seeds from catkins with occasional breaks for a course of sunflower seeds just outside the window.

As great as the trip was, it?s good to be back home and working.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- 24 here and all is quiet for now. al- I think your storm is headed our way. Unfortunately they are calling for sleet and freezing rain to start around 3 this afternoon. Then snow. We are taking my sil to the city for a procedure- her appointment is at 1:30. We'll be cutting it close depending on how they are running. It's one of several appointments on the way to a diagnosis so we don't really want to cancel it. Maybe I can talk hubby into calling to see if we can move up the time to this morning. Maybe someone who lives far away will cancel.

It was 58 here yesterday and I went to the summer house and brought up the 2 snow shovels. The wind blew so hard it knocked the bird feeder off. I went out and rearranged the bricks it sits on so it was lower in the container and refilled it. Lots of feed on the ground but I left it there.

cal- did the Roomba come to life and scare boo boo?

Love the picture of Stripe with bologna in his mouth. Who would have guessed he would like that?

Time for breakfast- hi to jp, ra, rues, nora, johoward and all I missed. Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies!  Supposed to rain here every day for the next week, except Sunday!  We've really had a rainy, warm winter, so far.  It was colder in November than it's been since!  The guys finally came today to take down my hickory tree in the front yard by the road.  I'll be glad to see that darn thing gone... too many nuts and leaves to clean up.

cal... I have to laugh at your name for your new roomba!  Trigger!  lol  My daughter has one... she named her Gladys.  She likes to get stuck in places!  Pretty noisy too, so you can't watch tv while she's working.  Hope the roads don't get too awfully bad there... 8 inches is a lot at one time!  Stripe is so cute!!  Glad she knows where to go for food.  Dr. Rogers mother must have been a teenager when she had him... Didn't he just turn 80?  She looks good for her age!

lupine... I've been meaning to ask you... Does bread and potatoes really contribute to inflamation??  Hadn't heard that before.  Something to keep in mind though...  Hope you get home today before roads get bad!  Be careful!

rues...  When does Blacklist come back on?  I hadn't seen any previews yet.  Yes, Manifest was pretty exciting!  It's going to be warm here, too... around 70 this weekend!  My kind of winter!  lol

Hope everyone has a good day!  Hi to all!  Going out for an early supper to the Mexican restaurant later after my daughter gets out of school.  Hope the guys are done with my tree by then.
