Good morning everyone- cal- those Chiefs- we missed a bit of the beginning of the game. When we turned it on it was 14-0 Texans!! Jeesh- it took a long time for KC to wake up. But oh boy-when they got going- wow! So noon? next week against the Titans. And the 49ers against the Packers. Should be great games. I'd like to see Chiefs and Packers in the Super Bowl.

rues- your poor sister; not fun at all for her; haven't heard about stuff like that around here yet-knock on wood. I did wake up yesterday a little dizzier than usual. That usually means a sinus/ ear infection. Head feels congested this morning so I may lay low for a few days.
ra- so glad people are going to use your stack of wood for different stuff- way to recycle. I'm very proud of you- chicken legs and green beans- eat til you are full. Yesterday hubby cooked T-bones in the wood stove- so good. Of course they were on sale- next time i'll but 4 instead of two. They were $16 for the 2 but we'd have spent $26 on one dinner at the Longhorn.
Hi johoward- good to know you watched the game!

We got another dusting of snow overnight but there is still ice under all that. Walking in the grass to my bird feeder is crunchy. Tons of birds yesterday. We talked about setting up a feeding station for pheasants somewhere not too close to the house but in an accessible area. Still ruminating on that. People have been talking about the fact that the rabbit numbers are down. We haven't seen many here either so far this winter.

I'd best get a move on. Have a great day jewelies!

Daily Updates
An Opportunity - UPDATE January 13, 2020
13 January 2020
 Print Email
Tonight is an opportunity to speak to a group of college students who are spending their winter break learning rather than playing. Lynn with college studentsThese top students, including some grad students, gather from across the US for a tour to meet with and ask questions of top biologists. I enjoy their questions every year. I start by saying, ?I don?t have anything prepared, and I won?t know what to say if you don?t ask questions.? The questions flow until the leader says it?s time for the next activity?usually after an hour to an hour and a half. Lynn with college studentsIt?s from this group that we get many of our summer interns. Judy Thon, Director of Education for the Bear Center, will be with me to tell them what we offer for internships. Judy will take a picture of it happening. I have to dress up for this in my best Bear Center shirt.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- it is 32 here and the weirdest thing outside; looks like some of the ice melted and we got some rain but I won't know for sure if it's foggy til it gets light out. Our road maintainer went by our house yesterday trying to loosen some of the ice that was on the road. Hubby said pavements were clear. I really wish our weather would get cold and stay there- much healthier for us and wildlife.

I will admit I didn't watch the game last night but I saw this morning that LSU won. Sorry ra. I hope it was a good game.
cal- getting a new computer not fun; our printer is shot and since hubby uses it most I'll let him get a new one. He hasn't done it yet- been at least 3 months. We just don't use it much- I never even connected my laptop to it.
Well, I am in training for the Australian Open which starts Sunday evening here. They are 16 hours ahead of us- not sure of that- but to watch live tennis it is broadcast from 6 PM to 6 AM. So I will have to have a huge supply of coffee to participate.
cal- I forgot to tell you that Rafa was interviewed on 60 Minutes last Sunday night. Really good interview. You can probably find it somewhere on you tube.

Time for breakfast- have a great day jewelies!

Cal, I'm so sorry to hear about Dr Westman's passing. Through your posts, I felt like I knew him! Just never know when it's your time to go. :'(  That would be very hard to go on vacation after that. My sis came home today. Her dr said she had a stomach abscess caused by her diverticulitis! Never heard of that before. We will be going to Walmart in the morning! Yay! Crow went with me Monday afternoon. He drove me nuts. He is worse than a kid in a candy store! He looks at everything and wants it!   Those KC pics were so nice! Bet the Nutcracker there was beautiful to see!

Ra, good to know that some of that wood won't be put into someone's fireplace! I bet something pretty could made out of pecan. Sorry about the game. Crow cheered on that Burrow kid. Nearby Athens Co, Ohio, where he lived and went to school for a while, is planning a big celebration in his honor sometime in the future.

Lupe, I know nothing about computers, printers, routers, wifi or anything that has to do with that stuff! Thank goodness Crow does! We don't print much either. But every month or so, my sis buys a big pack of printer paper at Walmart because her hubby prints out just about everything he looks at online. Crow wondered why he didn't save it to his computer but sis says he likes having it in his hand! Had to laugh at your training for tennis! Take it easy and don't do too much in the beginning! Lol!  It has been very foggy here each morning. No more high 70's. :( Probably a good thing because I noticed some flowering bushes were starting to bud. Way too soon for that!

Jp and Jo, hope you guys are doing ok!

Have a nice evening! :)

Daily Updates
Flying Squirrel and Den Cams - UPDATE January 14, 2020
14 January 2020
 Print Email
As I typed a response to a DNR message about the Den Cam Application I sent in on December 13, a flying squirrel watched, showing the big, round eyes of this creature of the night.Flying Squirrel
Flying Squirrel

Also as I typed, someone sent this link to a haunting 3?-minute musical piece accompanied by snowy pictures of this area that look about like it does here now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxZfLmXJdCQ.

At the Bear Center, nice changes are happening with the exhibits as we replace old monitors with new ones double the size. They are sitting on new beautiful wood platforms. They got praise last evening from the leader of the group of students.

Crossing my fingers about the Den Cam for Lily and her four cubs.

Thank you for all you do.

Good afternoon everyone- i'm just a bit late I know. Nothing like a phone call just before 6 AM to start off long day. A family emergency that isn't yet sorted out. But the two of us are fine.

Hubby had a tooth extraction appointment scheduled this morning and from the road reports I knew early on that we were going to cancel that. The part of I80 we usually travelled had a travel not advised on it warning.  So then a family member called and was in distress. Hubby is taking him to the specialist this afternoon.  So many phone calls and messages.

Anyhow- freezing rain this morning has mostly melted and wind has shifted- cold temps on the way.
Then another storm on Friday when sil has an appt. She's already called us about cancelling it.

I'm taking a deep breath!

Have a great rest of the day jewelies!
