Hi Jewelies! The Red Eye bus to NYC left Walmart parking lot at 9pm Friday night. We stayed until the bus took off. It was pouring down the rain. I was a nervous wreck! Robin texted me Sat morning at 7:15 saying they should arrive in the city a little after 8am. She slept the whole way. Wish I had! I worried all night long! She did everything she had planned to do...saw the Rockettes, the play Beetlejuice on Broadway, David Byrne on Broadway, Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, Macy's window displays, a Christmas market in some park that I can't remember the name of, she ate her favorite street foods and she did all this with her 4 friends in about 14 hours! We picked her up this morning a little after 9. She was exhausted and looked a little raggedy! To her surprise the old lady bus had more people her age than old ladies! Lol! She said should would definitely do that trip again.

Cal, did you watch Blacklist yet? It's a good one. I think it was the fall finale. I had to watch it on my iPad yesterday since I couldn't watch it Friday night. You do wrap a lot of presents! I think I have 4 to wrap! Lol! Thad sounds like a very nice guy. What a good love story about Noel's aunt!  I didn't know what Hy-vee was either. So I watched your Hy-vee commercial. Didn't know any of those players but it is a cute ad! Thanks for the beaver info! I hadn't gotten around to Googling them yet.

Lupe, robins love the red berries on my holly tree. That's the only thing I have in my yard for them to eat when the ground is frozen. I haven't made any cookies yet because just as soon as I make them, Crow eats them! So if I want some for the holiday, I make them the day before! Lol! I love sauerkraut and wieners but I don't think I'd like it as a soup!

Ra, I don't like okra. It's so slimy. It's not a staple around here!  We had Tela here while Robin was gone this weekend. We had a heck of a time giving that little girl her meds twice a day. We got Friday night's down her but Crow got scratched in the process! She was not a happy camper. Then she ran behind the furnace. We didn't see her again until last night. She easily took last night's dose and then this morning she took it with no problem. So she missed one dose. We dropped her off on our way to pick up Robin. She was so excited to be back home. She ran thru her tunnel, looked into her yert, ran upstairs and then down to the basement and then she stopped and ate a piece of cat food! She is probably now in bed asleep with her mom! My cat, Cali, was on a low ash diet because she had frequent uti's. It worked for her. The vet said we may have to do something else for Tela if this happens again.

We buried Bruce yesterday.  Joan miraculously made it through the graveside ceremony and the brunch at Perkins.  Then could not walk to the car.  Went to bed early, and is still in her bed.  I am starting to worry a little.  She does this about once every two weeks, but she did have a high sugar crisis and hospital stay last week Monday.  A urgent care doc gave her prednisone and pegged her glucose reading at 601.  She did not know who I was when she woke on Monday.  It was awful.  Anyway now you know why it was so wonderful to have her with us at Bruce's grave and brunch.
GTG now. Took 12:47 on triangles flight testing reindeer LOL.  I like triangles about as much as JP likes circles.  God bless those in need.

cal I don't really care what cut you use.  Just wanted to keep our " old man" company.  You know they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.  Joan is hurting more than ever.  GTG

Hi Jewelies!  Pretty nice today... sun was out!

cal... Your puzzle cut today was tri-clips, not the triangles that I love so much!  lol  Nora likes triangles, too.  I didn't get to watch the Chiefs game today... shoot.  Glad Sammy made it to the stadium!!   Did they win?  I like it when I get lucky and get to watch it.  When I saw I couldn't watch it, I went out and rakes some leaves.  Didn't get much done... first Clemson grand came to see me, stayed for a couple of hours, then about 10 minutes after she left, younger grand showed up.  lol  I'm not complaining though.  She was hungry and I was hungry for spaghetti, so she stayed for supper with me.

Johoward... Sorry to hear Joan is having such a hard time still.  601 glucose level is very scary!!
Hope you get some time to relax.  Take care of yourself, too!

rues... Robin's trip wore me out just reading about it!  Ah, yes, to be young again!  Okra isn't slimy if you cook it like it was at Betty's Place.  That's the only way I like it... breaded and fried.

lupine... 7 degrees!!  Yikes!  Sounds like winter has arrived!  Hope you get your snow soon, so you can have a white Christmas!  If I get a chance to try some sauerkraut soup, I'd like to try it.  I like cabbage in my soup, so maybe...  I've been thinking about it.  lol

Hi to all Jewelies!  Have a good evening!

Ra ... you love the Triangle shaped ones as well ... and I also love tigers.  I am just trying to make myself work harder...  oh...I just happened to think... was that real tigers or sports tigers?

LOL, neva!  Real AND sports tigers, specifically CLEMSON Tigers.   ;D   What are you working harder at?  You don't have any leaves to rake there, do you?  If you miss them, I have plenty for all of us!  My mother would approve...  she was always raking!  When hers were done, she did her neighbors' yards!

Daily Updates
Family Fun Day, Wolves, Etc. - UPDATE December 15, 2019
15 December 2019
 Print Email
After church, daughter Colleen and family joined us in a wolf howl that got no response. To make ourselves feel better, Boltz at the Wolf Center
Boltz at the Wolf Center
we told the grandkids that Donna, Kelly, Colleen, and I took first place in the first annual family wolf howling contest some three decades ago. Thinking about wolves, we visited our sister organization, the International Wolf Center, and became intrigued watching the four ambassador wolves.

Denali yawns
Boltz yawns
At the Wolf Center, 11-year-old Denali was sleeping with 3-year-old Axel?s head resting on him, but when they got up, they became competitors at a deer carcass that Denali dominated with snarls.

What was intriguing to me was seeing how the wolves? other competitors, ravens, knew exactly how to get part of the carcass without strife. When the wolves were actively competing with each other over the carcass, the ravens stayed out of the way. When the wolves were distracted, the ravens immediately recognized the opportunity, time after time, and crowded in for their share while the wolves, only inches away, looked away.

Meanwhile, when Boltz, a beautiful gray wolf awoke from a nap, he gave a big yawn that showed how wolf teeth differ from bear teeth. In black bears, the back teeth (from the fourth upper premolar and the first lower molar back) are blunt (called bunodont teeth) for crushing nuts, acorns, greens, etc. Boltz showed us that his back teeth are sharp shearing teeth (called sectorial teeth) for cutting meat.

Hairy woodpecker
Hairy woodpecker
Out the window at the WRI, a male hairy woodpecker spread his wings and pointed his beak at a blue jay to say he was there first and wasn?t sharing his pile of sunflower seeds. The blue jay left. Hairy woodpeckers will also do that toward greedy red squirrels at times.

A fun visit with family?and a joy to see the grandkids? interest in nature.

Thank you for all you do.

Minnie and one of her cubs,

Greetings to each of you.  I am doing all right, just not as into things as I used to be.  I spend most of my computer time working JigZone puzzles.  That does not require much brain action..  I do my Advent calendar but I did not like coloring the ducks.  Too painstaking doing each feather.

I enjoyed watching the Army/Navy game as Navy won.  Now, Navy plays Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl on December 31.   GO NAVY!

I wish yu all a peasant Monday.

Good morning everyone- thanks jp- so good to see you; ty for the honey bee bear, and Minnie and cub to brighten the morning. I haven't been doing jigzone puzzles because they seem to be sticky on my laptop. Probably just me.

cal- great game yesterday and so fun to watch in the snow. Unfortunately the Steelers lost to the Bills in Sunday Night Football. So many interceptions for our 3rd string QB. So bills are in the playoffs courtesy of the Steelers and we are in wild card mode.

rues- I also was exhausted after the description of Robin's trip- sounded like lots of fun though. I tried growing holly here- got one for my growing zone but it kept getting smaller every year. In Pa. where I grew up we had several holly trees in our yard and I loved them- except when they shed their pointy leaves. ra- talk about raking- we didn't waste any time getting those picked up.

cal- so sorry to hear about ron- sending positive vibes his way!

johoward- what a trying time for you; I can't imagine how you are coping with all the stress. I agree with ra- so important to take care of yourself.

Just really love the wolf pictures in the update; they are so beautiful.

We got a bit of snow last night- YAY- so i'll need to get out to sweep this morning. Had to laugh at the footprints my 2 cats made coming to the porch from the summer house. The second walked in the first one's exact prints. Looked like one critter!!!

Have a great day jewelies!
