Cal, lol! Yes, today is Wednesday! I was reading your post thinking I'm sure today is Wednesday because I went to Walmart with my sister this morning! Lol! Looks like a nice clean restaurant and the food looks good! Carrot cake sounds good, too. Guys are so funny when they get together!  I know if my sis and I didn't go to Walmart every Mon, Wed and Fri, I wouldn't know what day it was either! My mom used to say every day was the same to her. I get it now.  I'm going to Google beavers, too. I don't know much about them at all. We took Tela to the vet yesterday. She has another UTI. So she is on antibiotics again. This makes the 3rd time in her 4 years. She still weighs 5 pounds and looks like a kitten. She will be staying with us Fri and Saturday nights because Robin is going on the as she calls it  "old lady bus" to NYC! The bus leaves Walmart parking lot at 8pm Friday and returns Sunday morning around 10am. Supposed to rain the entire weekend here and in NYC! I'll be a nervous wreck the entire weekend.

Lupe, I put Christmas away on the 26th but keep my snowmen out until Feb. Then I replace them with Valentine stuff! I hate that any cats live outside but at least your outside kitties have a safe, warm place to live and food and water to drink and someone who cares about them!

Have a nice evening, Jewelies! :)

Daily Updates
Full Cold Moon - UPDATE December 11, 2019
11 December 2019
 Print Email
The last full moon of the 2010?s, known as the Cold Moon, will reach its peak overnight at 12:12 AM EST 12-12-19 (that?s 11:12 AM Bear Time on 12-11-19). I suspect that no bears around here will see it.Ful Moon photo by NASA
Ful Moon photo by NASA
With temperatures forecast to be well below zero F, they will have their heads tucked under their chests keeping their muzzles warm and re-breathing the moist warm air they are exhaling into their nests. Their hind legs will be tight against their sides to block drafts, and their front legs will be crossed in front of them doing the same. Snow that has built up around den entrances will further block their view. So this view is for us. The photo is by NASA, and it won?t look like that to us.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- 24 here and snow up north- but not here- probably in Decorah. It seemed warm out after yesterday.

Well, I got a good start on my decorating yesterday. Plus I sent two boxes to my niece. We got a new postmaster in town- a really nice guy. He was very helpful. A young guy- I was very impressed. It cost a lot to send and he asked if the boxes were filled- maybe we could go to a smaller box which would cost less. But I had both boxes stuffed!!

Today is the day my sil and I go out to lunch. It's her turn to treat so i'll choose a moderately priced place. She never wants to choose. We always have a great time.

Just saw the weather- above freezing today and tomorrow. May e we'll go to the city.

Have a great day jewelies!

hi rues i just googled the beaver ..They spend the entire winter inside their lodges. In the fall, before their ponds freeze, the beavers store food (fresh branches) in the water around their lodges. Remember, the entrance to a beaver lodge is under the water. In the winter, a beaver will swim out of the lodge to get food under the ice. i thought their entrance was under water guess they have enough air in their lodge to make it thru the winter now if i lived closed by i would take my 4 wheeler and maybe break a hole in the ice on down so if they needed some air could come up for it. but i do not have any beavers at my ponds might be some on the crooked river and the river runs so good place to have a beaver lodge no ice with running water.

Good morning everyone-  It is 24 here and no wind; both cats were at the door so I fed and put water bowl out.

Well- my sil and I did not go out to lunch; hubby's luncheon was cancelled and he wanted to try the steak special at the Hy-Vee. They've had this for a long time and we kept saying we wanted to go but hadn't. So my sil was just as glad to stay home. Well- the meal was edible- enough said. When we left at 4 PM it was 46 here- felt a bit balmy.

The Iowa basketball team played last night. My friend who graduated from ISU follows their teams so I issued a little bet- if Iowa wins I go to her place and treat her to Red Lobster(her fav) and if ISU wins she comes here to take me to Red Lobster. Kind of a win-win situation. Well- even the Iowa website predicted ISU to win and she spotted me 4 points. The Hawks were ahead the whole game- amazing. We kept waiting for ISU to surge ahead but it never happened. 84- 68  Now no basketball until the 21st.

cal- coming down to betty's place would be an overnight for us. Sil  doesn't choose because she trusts my judgement- maybe- or she isn't picky or like me she just likes to get out and not have to cook. Did you get your gifts wrapped?

Need to get my breakfast- have a great day jewelies!

Daily Updates
Cold Moon and Thoughtful Looks - UPDATE December 12, 2019
13 December 2019
 Print Email
The full Cold Moon rose at dusk on December 11 when the temperature was minus 7 degrees F and Cold Moon
Cold Moon
I snapped this picture at 4:54 PM Bear Time?six hours and 18 minutes before the moon was officially at its fullest and brightest at 11:12 PM.

When birds and mammals look at me through the window, they often look thoughtful, like this blue jay, and I wonder what they?re thinking. If they don?t immediately flee, I feel honored, the same as I feel when a chickadee or red-breasted nuthatch trusts me enough to land on my hand. Blue jays are particularly wary, but when I?m sitting at my Blue Jay
Blue jay
desk like I was when I snapped this picture, they are a little more accepting. Having seen so many wary blue jays, you can imagine how surprised I was to see them coming closer to people on behind-the-scenes tours at the Bear Center than I?d ever see here at the Wildlife Research Institute. And chickadees there land on an open hand even when there is no food. I wish I could read their minds.

I have always especially wished I could read bears? minds. Learning the meanings of their vocalizations helped with that and helped me know how to behave to gain their trust. Always intriguing.

I learned something about these updates I didn?t know before?that the pictures don?t get bigger when you click on them in an email. To see the pictures blown up, you have to go to the website.

Thank you for all you do.
