The single Marlin is J.T. Realmuto.  also, a catcher.and probably the best catcher  in the National league but won't start as the big market teams get the votes. He leads, or is second in all the catcher statistics.

Hi everybody- yes cal I am fine- watched tennis non stop from 5:30 to 3 PM. It was on 2 ESPN channels and I watched live scores on the computer. Takes a lot of concentration to keep all the matches straight. Then I made a library and grocery run. I didn't ride on the cart though. I missed your anniversary yesterday but it sounds like you had a great meal- nice you and Jim had the place to yourselves- very romantic!
Rafa, Roger, Novak and Serena won today. All four looked really good- never expected Serena to be in this so long. She is a fighter. I saw a picture of her and Alexis' baby- she is adorable.
Roger Federer was on running with Bear Grylls last night. He isn't a real bear bear- he is a human named Bear. Well- Bear usually does survival things in all kinds of places by himself but this season he has been taking celebrities with him on one or two day events. Roger was definitely outside of his comfort zone but did super. It's on history channel if anyone wants to watch it. Now i'm even more impressed with Roger as a person- great guy.

TY jp for the teddy-super cool mike and the funky cat. So nice to be retired and monday is just another day.

Hot here- turned the ac on this morning- cats probably won't want to eat. Have a great day jewelies!

Cal, glad you and Jim had a nice dinner together! The new restaurant sounds nice. We go to our favorite Mex restaurant a couple times a month. Robin isn't crazy about Mex food so she doesn't go. She also complains that her clothes smell after she eats there. Must be a spice that is used in the cooking. The last time we ate there we saw the strangest thing. Two guys came in wearing khaki shorts, t shirts and no shoes! :o One was an older bearded guy, the other was much younger and had the most beautiful waist length black shiny hair! The waitress apparently knew them and seated them across the aisle from us. Both their t shirts had the name of the local health food store here in town on them. They both brought their own organic bottled drink with them. Surprised me that they were allowed bring in their own drink and barefoot! Good thing the Health Dept didn't stop by for an inspection. What do your new glasses look like? I need to make an eye dr appointment. I did schedule my annual mammogram for next month. Could have gotten in this month but I didn't want the 7am time slot! Did you see where Murphy Brown is coming back this fall? Those pinatas are so cute!

Hi to everyone! Have a nice evening! :)

Dawn

Wishes of a happy nature go out to all plus ones for a dandy Tuesday.

I had a major oversleep and am not happy about that.  Time will eliminate the down feeling.

Bear News from Sharon Herrell - UPDATE July 9, 2018
 Print  Email
Sharon Herrell wrote a nice update with some heartwarming stories of the 4 bears. We knew you would enjoy reading about some of her memories.Lucky

Bear News ? July 8, 2018

Happy Half-Birthday to our Bears! Today we celebrated the bear?s half-birthday with a special treat ? pi?atas filled with some of their favorite foods. Our supporters voted for which pi?ata each of the bears would receive and made donations towards food for our bears. Ted is 21? years old, Lucky is 11?, Holly is 5?,and Tasha is 3?. Ted received the watermelon pi?ata; Lucky received the dog bone, Holly the cell phone and Tasha the guitar. The treats inside included fruited trail mix, pecans, hazel nuts, cranberry, yogurt raisins and grapes.

My job and relationship with our bears has been an extraordinary journey, good times and of course some sad times. In honor of their half-birthday I'd like to share a favorite story about each of our bears.

Ted
Ted
Ted bear and the cherry pit. There was a time many many years ago when we would rub Ted's pads with bag balm to ease the severe cracking and soreness. One summer day Ted was resting in back of the falls with his feet propped against the balsams when I approached him. As I gently began massaging the bag balm into the cracks of his pads, I was feeding him grapes with the other. One does not touch a bear without feeding the end that bites. I vaguely recall dropping a black cherry into the mix as I loaded my pouch with red grapes. I was concentrating pretty hard when suddenly Ted jerked his paw away and raised to look at me. It scared me a bit as I hadn't had him do that to me before. He kept staring at me and I noticed he had something in his mouth. It was the black cherry. I was so focus on his paws that I didn?t notice I gave him the black cherry. I said, "Ted, it?s ok, and I made a chewing motion.? He tasted it and must have thought it was good and began to eat the cherry and I started to rub his paw pads. Again, he jerked his paw away. I looked intently at him and said ?What Ted?? He indicated to me that he had the cherry pit in his mouth and didn't quite know what to do with it. I said ?you've got to be kidding me." I put my hand to his mouth and he deposited the cherry pit in my hand. Needless to say I stopped the massage and just cracked up laughing.

Holly
Holly
Lucky bear and the cedar pile. When Lucky was a wee cub, we would play with him on the cedar pile, which at that time was located above the small falls in front of the cub tree. We often played with him allowing him to run and jump into our arms giving him a good belly rub, which calmed him down. One day I was out with him and took him to the pond edge. He was playing and scooting along the cement edge being a little cub. Lucky was small and only 8 months old. As he played I walked back to the cedar pile to sit down and watch him. He lost sight of me because the weeds were so high and he was so small. He began to bawl. I quickly stood up and went to where he could see me. As soon as he saw me he began to run full speed. His little ears were back and his paws were cruising. I sat down quickly and caught him as he leaped into my arms from 3 feet or so away. As I collected him going over my head he began to claw and bite with the excitement of being reunited with one of his moms. He was so happy; he played a while longer then fell asleep with me rubbing his tummy.

Holly bear and the trail cam- I have a few favorites but I'll share the trail cam story. It was closing in on September and I was sure Holly had been digging near the bunker dens. I couldn't ever catch her at that place; so I decided to put one of our small trail cams near the den area. While she and Lucky were receiving enrichment near the pond, I went in and put the cam up. I positioned it so I could see the den and area around it to verify if she was digging between the rocks.

Tasha
Tasha
An hour or so passed and I went in to see if I had any pictures but unfortunately the cam was gone. I looked around and found a small piece, then another and then another. The main part of the camera was just below the area I was trying to catch on video. I picked up all the pieces and called Holly bear. She meekly appeared with the look of I did it on her face. I slowly approached then sat behind some bush. "I said, "Holly, come Holly, good bear." She peeked around the bush and came within a few feet with her head down but looking at me. It?s always interesting to me how bears imitate humans. She knew she had done something but I couldn't scold her, she was investigating a foreign object near her den site and it didn't belong there so she removed it. A couple of our dedicated Bear Educators witnessed her behavior and one said, "She honestly looks guilty." Holly is a sweet bear that has a disposition much like our beloved Honey bear.

Tasha bear- our little actress. I'm not sure but I feel some where along her cubbyhood Tasha took theatrical training. Tasha throws herself against the fence and plays with her feet while the interns are doing the Behind the Scene Tours. She will often paw at the fence and rub her head and back against it. This means, "Hey you guys, I'm cute come feed me too." This behavior is also a way of letting me know it?s time for a back rub. She will move her paws to where she wants to be rubbed. She often will roll her head on my hand to indicate where she wants to be rubbed. She very much enjoys her back rubs. I often gently tug her lower lip, its something I do just for her. Tasha is a gentle and very good-natured bear. She likes to suckle her food; it?s an endearing treat for those who take the time to listen.

Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers that arranged the Birthday Fundraiser and purchased the pi?atas. I?d also like to thank all our dedicated friends, supporters, and moderators that continually support our bears. Additional I want thank our staff, Bear Educators and Interns that helped make the bears birthday a special day for them.

hi jewelies! it is 75 here heat advisory for us all this week over a 100 index today and worse tomorrow. i hates this weather . but i love the update! love the stories sharon shared with us. she is the best! ted story so funny. i can just see ted getting fed grapes having his feet massage then a cherry! that pit but really good he spit it out cause it could of broke off one of his teeth. i got a bag of cherries last week and have to be careful with that pit so when i read it first i thought of was that pit. i hear puppies now i hear jim barking like them. he going ruff ruff really getting them wound up. when i get down here will let them out of my room all day i try to leave them in the kitchen well in my room for boo boo to go out. no one spending much time outside. love the lucky story reminds me of these puppies. they get to the end of the yard in the tall weeds in the corner and cant see me i walk down the ramp and when they see run as fast as they can whining with happiness jump up on me. love holly and tashas story too. what a wonderful bear place.

Hi JP! thanks for the pic of dawn and the good morning! royals traveled to Bear state and of course lost to the twins last night 3-1. i remember an all star game where a bunch of players were the royals and the coach was our ned yost.

Hi Rues! i dont know if my clothes smelled like mexican food they smell like a barn and puppies and stuff so smelling like mexican food would be a step up. jim let the puppies out of my room calling them cry babies let them out and back in he is getting ready to leave they are in the kitchen so trying to hurry here. got to run to walmart in a bit pick up my and sister peach ambillo. for our game. if we hit the ambillo deal on our switch the right arrow and ambillo circle shows up take peach and touch her over our joy stick we get another heart! and with the enable deal turned on now we get 9 more tries at the boss. hopefully we should be able to get thru rabbit ridge and on in the game.  my glasses are wire frame and no did not see murphy brown is coming back! wow that is so cool! i am going to watch the new roseanne show this fall the conners without her. cool bringing back the old shows. i like will and grace too but usually fall asleep before then. that is so weird them guys with no shoes and bringing their drink!! sister and i snuck in our pop when we use to go the show but we just buy the pirate movie at troys now watch it at home. cant wait to get hotel transylvania 3 in a few weeks.

hi to all you guys!

Good morning everyone- jp ty for the bath tub teddies and dawn.
Tennis doesn't start until 7 this morning- down to eight women so just 4 matches to watch plus the end of one men's match that was suspended because it got dark. Serena plays Giorgi in the second match about 8:30 Central time. I'm still amazed that Serena is doing so well- love it.
Just went out to water my annuals- very hot here- 90 and bright sunshine- so very dry. Rain Friday here too cal. The update was just wonderful- maybe Sharon should write a book too. I watched a video of Lucky and Holly playing in the pond yesterday- so much fun. All the updates are great but yesterday was so special.
rues- I bet the smell Robin doesn't like is cilantro- to me cilantro is the taste and smell of Mexican cuisine- I have a friend who once told me she liked Mexican food but she didn't like cilantro- hmmm.
cal- yay- jim is helping with the puppies and yay that they are getting better with their toilet training. I didn't know they are bringing roseane back without Rosanne- should be interesting. no official heat advisory here- but I personally have one.All the corn is tassled now and probably need some rain soon to set ears. Japanese beetles have moved on- they are at my sil now about an eighth of a mile from us. E mailed her my recipe for spray. she has roses and grapes and a plum tree- nirvana for a beetle.

Time to get a cup of coffee and get settled in for tennis. I didn't have the library order the next Harry Potter because we'll be on vacation soon. I'll wait til we get back.

Have a great day jewelies!
