The Hatcherys have to learn fast. Good thing Mother Nature gave them strong instincts. Are we officially on egg watch for #2?

lil - I saw RRP post on Facebook earlier saying, Since HM laid her first egg on Saturday, we’re hopeful for another egg on Tuesday!

Lisa, I'm looking at the copulation pic  from this afternoon and thinking of the old USPS motto, "Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor dark of night shall keep us from our appointed rounds" or something similar.  The USPS does not follow this very good motto any more, but perhaps the Hatchery pair has adopted it!    ;D

I for one am on watch for Egg #2 at N1 any time now. And it looks like HD and HM agree. Copulation on the T1 branch at about 4:00 PM, and they are sharing egg-brooding duties.  Also looks like nestovers in the top right corner of Lisa's pic of HD frowning in her most recent set of pics.  Funny, the nestovers are visible in the HD pic I posted from this morning at 9:00, too.

STL - I am not so sure that is nestovers.  I think it might be the trunk of the tree where they whittle.  The colors are so deep looking.

Another view...

Thank you all for so many wonderful pics and vids. My schedule is erratic so they really help me. On the Explore site there is a video of HD gathering grasses, which he returns to the egg that has been "home alone". Has this precious egg been exposed to the cold for long periods?
I hope #2 gets pushed out today.

Lisa, you are surely correct about the reddish appearing in the previous pic.  Looks more like that whittled bark than leftover food.

Still just the one egg by noon today. About 9:00, there's a short view of HD gathering grasses from the pasture near the creek, then he brought a talon-load to the nest.  Nice camera work from our intrepid, eagle-eyed cam ops!

 HD has been on the nest the most today, and is calling for HM to take a turn,  at 12:30.

From 1st Egg laid to 2nd Egg laid is about 72 hours as a general rule of thumb.

HM laid Egg #1 on 02/25/23 at 03:43:00 PM.

So from 4 pm CST on .... we start to keep an eye out for Egg #2 from HM.

BE's are not always like clock work and it has taken 4 or 5 days even from Egg#1 to Egg#2 here at the hatchery area.

Trust the Eagles, NWZ and plop on the couch with some popcorn.   ;D

HM snuck EGG #2  in on me.   ;D

* Egg #2 laid on 02/28/23 @ 4:38 pm *

73 hrs from egg#1 to egg#2. That's pretty much like clock work.  :o
HM doesn't give very much indication that she's laying an egg, pretty much like boop, oh' lookey there ...  :)  ;)
