Jan 29, 2025
The wait is over! The SSTrig chick of RLK & GLG has hatched and is now introduced to Dad RLK on the nest! What an absolutely beautiful moment to see this tiny white fluffy chick meet Dad and be placed underneath him (and note the small white bag!!) RLK is beside himself with excitement and he is enamored with his chick. He could not sit still & kept getting up to touch and look at this new life ♥

The SSTrig chick hatched on January 28th 2025. The chick was fostered to another nest to get fed from a parent that was on a dummy egg (there own chick was hatching in the incubator) From Sharyn Broni - "Yesterday the chick weighed 400g in the morning and 365g later in the day. Its tummy was very full in the morning so had not been feed by the afternoon weigh. The chicks weight is back up to 405g this morning. The dad at the foster nest has fed it well and have their own chick today now. The chick will be weighed twice a day until it is 7 days old. Then once a day for the following week. After which weighing will be weekly, typically on a Tuesday."

Happy day for GLG and RLK and SSTrig chick!💕 Mum GLG is going to get a wonderful surprise when she returns! Thank you for watching!

TSK... Food selection has been good 99% of the time and almost always staff are in touch via text and pictures of ideas for replacements if the originally requested item is suddenly not available, which is somewhat rare.

Laundry day. And maybe some pruning of grasses later as it will be a very warm day here.

BBL

Same with delivery of fresh and other food here. These shoppers got better over time and are in touch as they shop. Use instacart here. 4 years after covid they got it down!

Sorry KB... You asked the question. Duh.
Yup, Cub started with Instacart but within a year developed and improved their own platform.

I don't understand what you are saying to me. But, I do get that they (yours at Cub) changed platforms. My only point is over time all the delivery services have improved.

PHYL   Enjoyed your grouping of winter bird pics  :)

TIG  That's great when the "shoppers" can communicate directly with texts and pics.  Didn't know that.

LANI   Dad is so watchful communicating a "hello" and " thank you"  to Sharyn  ;D

Wow, it's 49 degrees....above zero!...I just spent the last 1 1/2 hours cutting spent hydrangea, picking up those that feel around, raking a little under my maple tree of squirrel nest stuff, and other pick ups.

Don't think I needed sunscreen yet ;) ;) ;)..but the sun sure did feel good! as did the physical labor outdoors.

Lisa, stunning knitting pieces....  fuel pump replaced. YAY! ... I'm so glad they completed the tests on SWFL eaglets... They had the Bird flu  :( .... I pray M15 & F23 will be okay.

Clynn, stunning snow sculpture.

{{{Phyl}}} I wish a cancelation would pop up for you. It sounds like your knee is getting worse each day.... pretty winter birds

Tig, Kb enjoy your day.

Tsk, watching Dad RLK look amazed at his new baby. It is amazing to me how easily they accept changing the fake egg for the baby chick. LOL!

Good night!

Lisa, thank you for that embedded video with that news report about the results of the testing on what caused the deaths of the 2 SWFL eaglets, E24 and E25. I encourage people to listen to the entire video embedded with that news article, including the excellent additional important info given at the end in the questions and answers. That is where the vet gives specific info as it relates to the potential for M15 and F23 to contract this highly infectious and deadly pathogenic strain of avian flu.

TSK, the vet answers a question at the end of that video Lisa posted from CROW that speaks directly to your comment and question about the health of M15 and F23, and what they know about raptors, and eagles in particular, as to their susceptibility to and, or, resistance to, HPAI, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, the type of avian flu that was the strain of H5N1 avian flu found in the eaglets. They said the next 2 weeks will likely be telling, and that people need to be prepared because of this strain’s highly pathogenic nature, and that an infected bird can appear perfectly normal and then suddenly show signs of severe illness and quickly die. They said mortality from this strain in raptors has shown to be around 90 percent. They also said resistance or immunity is very individual from animal to animal, even within a species.

I encourage everyone to listen to that entire embedded video in the link Lisa posted, including the Q and A at the end of it. It has way more info, and answers many viewers’ questions, that is not included in the print article below that video. The print article was only a high level summary of the results of the tests on the 2 eaglets that died. It also corrects some of the incorrect info that had made the rounds in a number of social media.

For those who missed it, here is what Lisa posted:
