Good Morning.
Lani, prayers the Horton fire is soon contained!  So much damage !   Wish our weather would be more evenly soread across our country!
High of 69 here today followed by 3 nights if temps in the 20ā€™s. Baz, two poinsettias have never been in the house.  They were porch plants last Christmas and then spent the rest of the time on  the screen porch,   Will see how they do this year.    Am not sure how well this years plant will do as it is very tall and not easy to cover!  Fun picture of the twins skiing!   I liked to water ski but hesitant to snow ski! In the first, you kean back and in the later , forward!   Lol

The Chiefs plaYed their second team while the first team sat this one out!  Not sure about the .vikings. Kind of like scheduling a bye week.   Denver gets an easy win but no bragging rights!

Cute book store Clynn.  Looks like a corner shop in faurhope, Al, the   Desk for .bella can double as a vanity table!
Glad the loblollies do not produce 11 pound pinecones!   Nothing would be safe!
Lisa, hope the kitties are goid and like the sound of the turkey.

Been thinking about them since yesterday posts - now another mention today of the coulter pinecones - now I have to repeat my cone story. . .

Ton and I took ride around CA, maybe late 1980's.  After being in and through several beaches, forests, parks, etc.  I ended up with several of the pinecones.  Have a couple sugar pinecones, several coulter pinecones.

Didn't know what a treasure collection I had until we got home and I researched.  All I knew was I was keeping them and taking them home (Ton just shook his head - more "stuff.")  Rather than carry them on the plane I shopped at mart and bought a large, flat-like under-the-bed cardboard box.  Packed it up with the cones and checked it in as luggage!  To this day I smile thinking of the baggage-check xray person when that image passed through the scanner.   ::)  What the he!!?

To this very day the pinecones are situated in a wicker basket on the concrete hearth of our fireplace.  Also, to this day I have only drizzled pine-scented oil on them and a couple of times some dainty tiny spray glitter.  I saw what some people do to them - spray paint white seems a sinful option.

That's another of my collections that I rue what will happen to them when I die.    :'(

I took a hike downstairs just now - had to turn off the laundry room light I left on all night - and took inventory  . . .   11 coulter pinecones    4 sugar pinecones

Yep, a real creature....an axoloti, a type of salamander....too cute!

Still freezing here and won't change till Thursday/Friday...it seems my toilet vent has once again frozen over. Come spring I'll have to have someone check that out. Spring as not sure it's safe to send anyone up there during the winter with frost/ice on shingles.

Lani - geez, sure hope they get a better handle on that fire....too close for comfort. Better yet, some rain.

Hope Lisa is doing okay as well..

Imo Sam Darnold ( our QB) choked yesterday. So many opportunities to score at/near the end zone that didn't happen.  An atypical showing up yesterday plus a few bad calls so obvious it's getting silly. But, mostly on Sam.
Hope he calms down for the rest of the playoffs.

Good Morning Beakers

kb - We are good, thanks for asking.  Jeff has been outside shoveling every hour.  Posted below is a pic from about an hour ago.  Jeff says we have a good 6", he thinks.  It is still coming down.

Lani - I had a Sister in elementary school that gave looks like that.  ;D Hope that Horton Fire stays away from you.

tsk - How did you make out with the snow?  From the trail cam, it looked like it started a lil bit after 1am here, and it is still falling.

tig - Wow, Mrs. McCaskey....102!

Phyl - Glad to hear that the snow has missed you.  Thanks for the 365.  Awww, you have some wildlife too in your backyard!

BrokenLug - Love hearing about your outdoor adventures.

clynn - Hope your Mom and Ed's family made out ok with the snow.

karen - The kitties were here early morning for their breakfast, and then went back to their shelters to stay warm while it continues to snow.  The turkey was good.

Puff - I love pinecones in a wicker basket at Christmas time, with clear lights either wrapperd around the basket handle, or weaved thru the pinecones.

Thank goodness we do not have to go across the bridge today.  It was pre-treated, but still a mess to drive on.

TRR Sloth TV cam
In 2024, our work in animal protection and welfare presented us with significant challenges.
During this period, we took in 676 animals who arrived at our facilities due to various circumstances, including illegal pet trade, trauma, diseases, attacks by other species, and, alarmingly, a number of orphaned animals.

Lisa--that's a lot of snow, almost looks like a foot. Relieved the B & B kitties are fine. Y'all take care and avoid that bridge!  I think your 'thaw' will be a while coming.
Yes have lots of critters... resident squirrels, bluebirds, sparrows, titmice (bird) chickadees, cardinals blue jays , vole (field mice)...visiting racoons, possums, deer ,red shouldered hawks, barred owls, bob cats and coyotes and a odd eagle. They all pass thru  our property . So  very thankful no bears!

Lani--tks for sloth report.LOL those funny sloths, too cute. Keep us updated on the Horton fire---Yep! some of our rain would be nice for  your area.

PHYL  Seems so odd to see bluebirds with our cold blustery day today  LOL  I know you have them year round.  Oh OH  possum sniffed out the goodies   :o

PUFF   Are your coulters the 11 pound ones??

KB   That axoloti looks like an alien creature...

LISA   That is one really big snow for you.  Keeping up with it prevents heart attacks from lifting heavy wet snow.  I like his hourly breaks idea.  YUP  I see by your pics - Lots of snow.  Bridge  :o :o :o

LANI   I see the TRR reports getting animals from illegal trade.  I would never have thought of that.  Sad   So bad about the smoke now a part of your daily living.   :(  Did you go for your walk in it?

No 3" of snow but there is ice out there.

tsk - Yes, a good amount of snow in a good while.  You be careful with the ice, that is worse than snow in my opinion.

Phyl - Jeff and I were just cleaning off the cars, and shoveling the front walk.  He measured in several areas and he said, 7.5".  Snow has stopped for the moment, but they keep saying another round is coming this evening.

karen - I have had three cups of coffee today, wish I would have made some chili, but Jeff wants baked chicken thighs.

Lani - Thank you for TRR updates.  Oh no, I hate to hear that the smoke is low over your home.

Howdy Beakers!  :)

Everyone stay safe, and warm, and fingers crossed for all!

Lani, prayers for all working around that Horton Fire, and all in the path of it and its smoke. I know you know about tiny smoke particulate that can't even be seen that gets breathed in, so I hope you are wearing a mask outdoors to help filter that out while that fire smoke is over your home. Fingers crossed for some precipitation to help the firefighters, and for favorable winds to lay down, as well.

Take care, (((Beakers))).  :-*

tsk  Don't know about weight - but anywhere from 7-10 inches across on the coulter cones; silver about 8 inches long 3" across.
