Meet The 2024–25 Royal Albatross Family

https://www.allaboutbirds.org/cams/meet-the-2024-25-royal-albatross-family/?utm_campaign=Bird%20Cams%20eNews%202024&utm_medium=email&_hsenc=p2ANqtz--9TUQeLflSI4xQ5cBFAl-7eiZ_aDdCYoEZcTx4axXgX6ZgY7HRDnwkzKkTCSnhiEMuOmsDG66px8YiPEG6WHvl4qi6LyULLSH4QnELMSdZAfQM51w&_hsmi=337882715&utm_content=337882715&utm_source=hs_email

The Northern Royal Albatross Cam is back for a new season from New Zealand’s South Island! Rangers from the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC) have moved the camera to its official site for the 2024-25 season within the albatross breeding colony at Pukekura/Taiaroa Head.

This cam season features a fresh set of faces and a new nest site! Twelve-year-old male RLK (named for his colored leg bands: Red, Lime, and blacK) is nesting with his 14-year-old mate GLG (bands: Green, Lime, Green) at the Signal Station Trig site. The birds have been switching off incubation duties over their fertile egg since it was laid on November 11.

Join us for another marathon breeding season with one of the world’s largest ocean wanderers live from the Southern Hemisphere’s only mainland albatross breeding colony.

Happy Thursday, Beakers!  :)

I love the Eagle-Palooza pics!! At both places!  :D

Zippo continues to show improvement with her respiratory symptoms. We're on Day 7 of her 2nd 14-day round of antibiotics. No gurgling. Labored breathing is almost never and not very labored when it's apparent. Wheezing is much less, and often not at all. She is not holding her beak slightly open like she had been, except only slightly, and not often. She's eating great! She has been needing a beak and nail trim, but I haven't wanted to stress her out by doing that while she has been sick. But since she is so much improved, I did a quick beak trim and emery board smoothing this morning, though I really wanted to trim it more than I did. So at least it's better, and her toenails could use a trim, but can wait, so didn't do that since that's stressful for her... the beak trim isn't so stressful. She actually likes it when I smooth the edge of her trimmed beak with the emery board!  :D :-*

Clynn, talons crossed your freezing rain/ice event won't be too bad, or last very long - saw about that on the Wx Channel this morning, also. I hope you won't need to go out in it at all! Looks like Decorah is inside the area targeted for that freezing rain, too. I hope the eagles will hunker down with lots of corn husks and stay safe! Love your sisters throwback Christmas pic!

Waving to All the Beakers!

CLynn  here's   🙏 - xing  that  your freezing rain/ice won't be too bad, or last too long .

Baz good news for Zippo. Tks for the report. Speaking of claws needing a trim...Maggie's in line for that .

Got Maggie's claws trimmed. Surprisingly she tolerated everything.

KB   All I can say is what an honest "drain guy"!!!!

LANI  Needles and pins at SWFL and only have 1 camera working.  We've seen that before  LOL

BAZI    Thanks for the continuing positive report on Zippo.

Fun day in Milw today.  Good travel despite the 5 degrees!!!  Always so good to be with family.  :-*

Sounds like a great day tsk!  Nice to be home safe without any horrible weather storms
Lani, thanks a lot for the report on SWFL. Hope tomorrow brings better news for them and less wind and rain. We had some rain and a few wind gusts here but it’s gone now and I think we are we getting a little warm up after I think I froze my Poinsettia I am going to give it a few days. Of sun and rest and hope for the best do not wish to purchase another for the outside. I sure didn’t think it was be that cold last night, and the temperatures were not expected to be at 32 or below but something happened maybe too much wind.
I am not sure Mickey and  Kathryn will be here for Christmas as they have had difficulty at their house
scheduling work in several areas. Mickey will not say for sure that they can’t come but I am going under the assumption that they will not be here at least not now .I bought a new TV for the living room today for I Have talked about replacing for several years. I will move the living room TV into one of the guest bedrooms as it is OK to watch for a short. Period. The Small one I have in  there Would that work when the DIRECTV folks connected it they claimed that if a set sits too long, they go sometimes just break sort of like car repair personnel who tell you that short trips at low speeds. It’s not good for car engines. Could be who knows.
I have a couple little trees, one outside and one in decorated with the multicolored Christmas lights, and I love it after years of having all white lights. This looks just magical well at any rate it’s pretty
Sounds like good news for zippo.
Thanks all for the pretty morning pictures and stories? M Sleep well and SIDS

KAREN   Who knew you would have to worry about freezing a poinsettia.  :o   So sad to hear that Mickey and Kathryn may not be coming.  Well who knows, maybe their house problems can be resolved in the next 10 days or so.

PHYL   So far so good here  LOL  (13th)

Good Morning Beakers!

Lani, I didn't think of that, but I would love to believe that some of the Decorah kids pass through Decorah in their travels - I wish we knew! Still cold, 10 right now! Thanks for the updates on SWFL, it won't be long til we see a bobblehead!

Phyl, love the New Yorker cover! Reading about Friday the 13th after I finish this post, I didn't realize it was FRIDAY the 13TH today!  ::)

karen, oh I hope Micky and Kathryn get their house problem resolved so they can still come visit you for Christmas! I know you have been so looking forward to it...

tsk, a good time in Milwaukee, you always have a good time when you go there! I bet you are your nieces/nephews favorite Aunt!

Phyl, glad you were able to trim Maggie's claws, I wish I could do the same for mine. But no, they act like I am going to kill them if I even try. I have to let the vet do it, I wish I knew their secret!

baz, good that Zippo continues to improve, sounds like she is just a hair away from normal, you are a good Mom! No problem if it's icy tomorrow, nr and I will get together during the week if necessary! It will be in the 40s Monday, Tuesday and Thursday!

Lisa, have you been baking goodies?
