Some cows have calves in the pasture now.  Watching the red cow to see if she does this year.

MrN still has his beak bling.  Great closeup view of him rolling the eggs about 4:15.  Thanks cam ops!    ;D

Rain and chilly this morning for both DNF and MrN.  They're keeping the eggs warm and dry.

Nicer weather here today.  Good news -- the red cow has a calf, looks to be black.
Eagles doing their incubation duties.  About a week until we can expect hatching to begin.

Sunday, Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Looks like MrN has been on nest duty since daybreak.  He has been calling for a break since about 10:00 this morning.  DNF must be at the parade.   :D

MrN left the nest at noon and DNF returned about a minute later on this cold, windy day. She rolled the eggs at about 2:00.

I read a post where it was mentioned that DNF had not returned after leaving this morning.  I'm just checking who is on the nest now and calling for the other.  Did mom make it back or is she MIA?

Puff, after last year, I understand your concern when we aren't sure where DNF goes when away from the nest.  But this year, she has been attentive and spending the right amount of time incubating the eggs.  This morning MrN had the early shift, and now she is on duty, while a male pheasant has been feeding on the ground under the nest.  He might get "invited" for lunch!

Some kind of excitement that I missed yesterday, because DNF has bloody feathers on her beak and the right side of her face.  Not an injury, but likely a tussle with prey.  So, what happened??

Things seem normal today, with changeovers and egg rolling as expected.

DNN's facial feathers are still dirty-bloody. Might have been cowghetti.  Anybody know for sure?

Changeovers today several times, with views of parts of eggs.  No visible pips, but the eggs are showing their age.

Yippee, one egg has a pip!  It's noon, and one of the eggs is starting the hatching process.  At changeover, you can hear DNF making encouraging mewing calls as she gets up.  Awesome!

Exciting about the pip. I was also pleased to be able to see the thickness of the shell. I don't think I've seen this before.

Great news about a pip, and hatching on the way! Hoping all goes well

That pic of the pip from earlier is the best view so far.  At changeover from DNF to MrN about 4:30PM there was no view of the eggs.  Stay warm everybirdie and maybe hatch tomorrow.   SEDS

Changeover at 7:15 provided a view of the pip.
