Well, ya, me too!  I think last year they left the camera on for the banding.  It's really interesting.  Anyhow, all is well as of noon today.

But when I checked the rewind, it appeared that there were only 2 eyases in the box from during the night and into mid-morning.  OH NO, could an owl have discovered this box?   Turns out not an owl, because a person returned the 3rd eyas about 9:50 AM, and all three seem OK.  Perhaps one needed attention of some kind from a vet.  Maybe someone will know and post the info.

Shep, I suspect that the umbrella was more to hide the person from the peregrines than to protect from rain.  Overthinking???

The kiddoes are looking good this morning.  They are in a very colorful phase of development.

Perching on the edge of the box rim is a big step in development!  And they have certainly found their voices.

But not yet (noon on Tuesday the 11th).  About 6:30 this morning, a parent (female I think because larger than the eyases) brought breakfast (guessing mourning dove).  After, the youngsters were calling  and  flapping and perching.  At about 9:45, a person appeared and one of the eyases flew away. Apparently it was caught because the same person brought it back to the nest box about 11:30.

What will happen next?  Why are the little ones being caught and what is being done to them?  This location needs some communication with the people involved!!  Watchers want to know.

if the young un landed on the ground, someone'd take it back up to nestbox.
VERY soon they'll go down to the roof - thats normal and expected.

All 3 are VERY VERY alert kids.

It's Fledge Day for the MSU Spartan Peregrines.

Hoo-ray and Huzzah for two who have flown the coop so far.   ;D

One went at about 3:15 this afternoon, caught by a gust of wind and away.  The second went the same way from the same corner of the box perch at 4:01 PM.  That one landed on the surface-floor and walked around for a minute or so before stepping away from the camera's view.  As of 5:00, the third eyas was still at the nest box.

The third eyas fledged at about 7:20PM.  It jumped to the roof of the nest box and pattered around for a few minutes before launching.  One of the parents had brought a meal earlier, about 6:00, then brought another shortly after the fledge. While the parent was eating the bird, the eyas can be heard off camera.  The parent carried the meal to the surface near the box and I think more than one eyas was enjoying it from the sounds.  The parent is sitting guard at the empty nest box into the night.

It's great to have another successful season at this location.  Thanks to MSU and RRP for bringing the events to us watchers.
