well Baz, we had a power outage this am for about 30 minutes, no cause revealed!  That was followed by the rain you mentioned.  Nice rain, all day!  Clear now and temps in the 70s.  Feels good but chilly after all the heat!  Think there may be rain for the next few days followed by a warm up to the mid to low 80s!   Yes, flood alerts! Piper and I will be fine!  She will get her little feet wet but the will dry fast.
Went to the orthopedic doctor today for X-rays of my back in preparation for some shots!     Looking forward to better mobility!
I will take those cruises, Clynn and the Orient Express!  Lol!   Great story on how things were. I fhought for a while that some of the changes were good, but not so much!  Too much too soon for some of the littles and not enough  hide and seek!
Climate change can be fought on many fronts!  Food choices, power usage,  what we plant , etc!   For tge sake of the children it must be done! Also, for the sake of all living things!
Interesting to watch the royal as changing of the guard, so to speak!
Thanks for all the reports!
Lisa, I shopped Giant!  A few times Safeway!   No specials back in the day like gas rewards!
Seds and yes, sweet memories of jpalm!

LisaG - Gas prices went up again today in our Salinas, Monterey County, CA; Valero $5.79, 5.89, 5.99, and Shell 6.29, 6.49, 6.69, 6.89. So sad  :o ::) :(
No wonder my Mom didn't want to own a car any more. ;)

Tig - Looks like all is still pretty good with you - hang in there! ;D

Hi Baz  :)

Lani - Hope you had a great day in the Valley today.

Clynn - Safeway is the main store in our north area, and on the south side of town is Raley's/Nob Hill.  I haven't heard of the stores you mention, so probably every area has their big grocery store/supermarket  ;D :)
I am dreaming with you; I would love to take a ride on the Orient Express  :)

We had it great when we grew up;  we would always be playing with the neighbors outside whether it was at our basketball hoop playing 'horse'! or riding our bikes, or going to the nearby school to play volleyball or softball.  There were always enough neighbors to play softball!  My point is that we were always outside every chance we could!  We used to live right next to the elementary school and be able to go over there to play ball or whatever, but now the school is all fenced and locked up, no one can enter after hours or weekends as we used to do. :(   We know this because once in a while, we will drive by the old homestead and see the changes in the little town.

Phyl - As you explained about Publix - similar to Safeway, I have to sign in and then get all my discounts uploaded - it is real quick - doesn't take long!

Karen - Glad you had a nice rain!

Beakers have a good night.  :)

Royal Albatross ~ Mum LOL Comes Home Looking & Waiting For Her UQ 😊💗 9.27.23 video by Lady Hawk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYEXKHJ0GAE&t=600s

Sep 26, 2023
UQ's Mum LOL came in this morning and waited for her sweet boy for ten minutes! 💕 She sat on the grass looking and hoping to hear those excited squeals and whees for a feeding but all that could be heard where the sound of the gulls overhead. LOL sat on the grass for several minutes before she  got up and walked close to Manaaki's nest and looked all around the area and down the hill for UQ. That really tugs at your heart strings as she has been the sole provider for her chick since May when her mate BLY went missing.🌷🐥 It is so bittersweet to see her looking for her chick just like Mama Lime and GLY did for Manaaki.

LOL would get up and then sit back down several times... you can see how much she was missing her boy and wondering where he was 🌹🌷It hurts to say goodbye but LOL had to make sure UQ was not down the hill so she looked around one last time before she spread her wings and departed over the sea. LOL is such a dedicated Mum and did such an amazing job raising UQ this season. We are all so proud of you and hope that you will now be able to head to South America and rest and recuperate. LOL may come back to check on UQ one more time like L and GLY did for Manaaki. It is so bittersweet to see her go - the last parent of the fab four chicks! 💕 Well done LOL and safe travels to both you and UQ ♥ Thank you for watching!

Hi Beakers, It was hot, crowded with cars and people. But, it was great to see and have my hair done by my good friend again. She got it trimmed back to what it was before. And we had a great visit. Costco and Trader Joe was packed, but we filled our car... And Baz, I could have stayed in Trader Joe's another hour  ;D . Love that place, what a treat! Then we had In and Out Burgers and ate on the way out of town. Saw the sign on Highway 87 "You are entering Tonto National Forest" and sighed with relief and joy! Home towards Rim Country! It's 64 degrees windows open and it's heaven!  ;D

SED Lisa, Eagles, Karen I did have a nice day with Mike. First long ride in his new car, very nice and comfortable. He loves it!  ;D

Baz, it was a fun trip to Trader Joe. We got there before it was too busy.

Tig, take care

Kb, Thanks for update and pic at NEFL nest. I hope the Towers return soon... How is Vi?

Phyl, lovely nature vid.... glad I have an Apple. I hope all works out.

Clynn, The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express decor is stunning. It's very Miss Fisher and Hercule Poirot! I wish I was there.... Oh, I just read your other posts. The cruises would be fantastic, I think you need a vacation!  ;D I just checked the Port Harbor Bay cam and YD21 is sitting on her nest. She did spend time with visitors earlier today!

Courtship
Most albatross stay with the same breeding partner for life. Each year adults return during mating season to Taiaroa Head to reunite with a mate or to find one.  They prefer to nest on tussock grassland, plateaus, or ridges, and will lay one egg biennially. This will normally take place in November or December. Both parents will incubate the egg, and rear the young. After they are born it takes about 240 days for a baby to grow its wings fully and fly by itself. There is very low mortality rates of the laid eggs.

Young albatross return after at least 4 years at sea to find a mate. They socialise in groups of potential mates called gams, to learn the language of courtship and try to impress with their displays. They perfect performances which start as what seems like a dance. Then eventually this becomes a simplified but unique language between one pair which they use to find each other each season.

Clynn. "WE ARE A GENERATION THAT WILL NEVER COME BACK."  :-*   I just read the Wild Heart Ranch post about the yellow jackets! Yikes, how lucky he was he's okay. Wasp/yellow jackets, my bees looked just like that. And I have almost 2 inches of dead yellow jackets/wasps/hornets in my DIY Bait. And only 12 on the Rescue trap. Oh my your home. Did you send a pic to your mom and sisters?

Good Morning Beakers!

Lani, awww, UQ's Mom came back looking for him...so sweet and kind of sad. Seems like they always make double sure their youngster is gone before they take off... Thank you again for all we have learned about the Albatross!  Sounds like you got a lot done in the Valley yesterday, and a fresh hair trim! I can feel the peaceful, easy feeling you get when you see the Tonto National Forest sign...almost home... Yes, I need a little vacation, can't wait to spend a few days with my sisters and Mom in Texas next month!

E4E, yes, we spent every minute we could playing outside, I even remember sitting outside with my sister on the concrete patio playing with our Barbies! We each had one Barbie doll and one Skipper doll. And a case with mostly homemade clothes. Bella must have 30 Barbies, the Dream House, Dream Camper and who knows what else. And she is already tired of them... When we lived in England my sister Cathy and I would take off on our bicycles and be gone all day, just riding everywhere. Mom had no idea where we were but she never worried, bad things just didn't happen. Most kids don't even walk to school any more, unless they live very close. I see the lines of cars dropping their kids off or picking them up on weekdays.

karen, are you getting another epidural shot? I think you are doing great!  If you were still at the nursing home you wouldn't be doing as good as you are! You would be pushing that button!  ;D

Phyl, I took a look at the Windows 11 update, YUK! https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/windows-11-s-next-big-update-is-now-available-with-copilot-ai-powered-paint-and-more/ar-AA1hih7U    It does say you can choose what you want, I will pass on most of it probably, as I bet you will too!

Sydney posted for Daughters Day yesterday:

Wild Heart Ranch - Good Morning Everyone!!! Some of the birds taking advantage of the food bowls outside. The kites will more than likely leave for South America this week. I love how they know what to do without being taught. I always say that instinct is a very powerful thing. -Greg

Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away. ~ Unknown

Good Morning, Lani - sounds like a fun day yesterday.

Vi and Dennis are both 87 now and look great btw. She walked down to my house last week with her blood work and MRI results wanting me to review. She always has btw. Her blood work was unremarkable, but her MRI report showed some lymph nodes had enlarged. She wasn't told last year there were any (an oversight IMHO) and she had changed internists this year who had her records. Because of her age, the location and size of them and normal blood work I suggested she go ahead and see the oncologist but not to worry too much.
Yesterday she called to confirm she has CLL..chronic, lymphocytic leukemia. At her age without any treatment and the oncologist didn't suggest any, nor did I, she has a 10-30 life span prognosis. The lesions are small and they won't biopsy as that spreads the disease but further specialist blood work confirmed it.
She feels fine.  Of course, they will follow her annually and I suggested she report any symptoms like extreme fatigue or night sweats.
Prayers requested for her.
I'm happy for her in the sense that this disease can progress slowly, the oncologist didn't suggest treatment or biopsy, and she may feel fine till she's 100!.

BTW, she hasn't walked with me in maybe a year now?....I miss our chats and walks. She said she wanted to start back up last year but something always came up, she has allergies, and it's unlikely she will again.

Thanks for Lady Hawk's report on UQ's Mom..so heartbreaking I think I might now review the video, her report is detail enough! ;)

Peregrin falcon dive.
The peregrine falcon is the fastest diving bird in the world and the fastest animal on the planet. According to Guinness World Records, in 2005 one was recorded diving at speeds of more than 380 km/h.
Photo: Tom Kaestner Photography

These are fascinating birds. At the Raptor Center they were kept in their own private rooms. Not as many as the red tails and eagles and they always struck me as a special and hyper bird and a little scary.

Morning all:
We got 2 inches of rain over the last few days..My sister about a 35 minute drive north of me got 5.5 inches.
Lucky her but I'm grateful. My grass seed I laid a week or two ago is actually growing in some areas. Was meant to grow next spring and I don't know now if it will survive the winter as it's germinated but not strong deeper roots. I'm not going to complain though as all the arbors, trees and perennials will go into fall with some needed moisture.

Hoping Andrew comes today or tomorrow. I'm sure with the rain he got behind with all his schedule so we shall see.

Good Morning Everyone !

Currently 64F     High  89F sunny,  Low 64F  clear skies.

CLynn
really enjoyed  snaps of Bella and Sydney on Daughter's Day-they look a lot alike;  Like I said about Win11 update earlier---this monster is loaded! It's
scary.  I was under the impression that this would auto download as the usual 'Windows Update' one gets during the night and installs upon 'reboot'
When you looked at this---was it an installation? Or just a link to info on the update? I don't want to 'click' on something and ''poof' I have it! Like
what happened with Microsoft Edge and now I have battle it for a spot as my default browser.
I guess if I don't have the update 'forced' on me---I can just not choose to update at all. LOL

KB I am so sadden and sorry to read about Vi.  Hopefully, as you mentioned this will progress slowly. I'm adding Vi to our home alter prayer list.  I know
from my Dad's illness how taxing this can sometimes be ...prayers for Dennis as well. Thinking of them both!
Here's to Andrew's help  later today /tomorrow.  ;)      Cool peregrine falcon---raptors have the most amazing dive.

Lani  tks for Royal update, poor Mum looking for her fledgling baby

E4E fuel cost is up? Yikes! That's not gonna help---any one

Prayers for:   Lahaina   Maui, HI and Morocco  ; All abandoned, abused  cats and feral cats; My  Alter prayer list
The Bluebirds of Cane Ridge, Tennessee, Hummingbirds, Bumble Bees  and Honey bees everywhere and Successful recovery from  Hurricanes  Idalia  & Hilary; Tropical  Storm  Ophelia ; The Beakroom and Cheers; Vi / Dennis.

Tsk Windows 11 has been out since 10/2021. When Dylan replaced my hard drive in 2020 He gave me Windows 11. (He's a techy and is licensed to instal MicroSoft products prior to release)  I mentioned that I really liked the look of Windows 10 so he added 'Windows Shell".
Windows 11  has been wonderful to work with.
