Kb, Mike hates spiders too. I remember we were married a little more than a year. There was a large Hawaiian spider on our bedroom ceiling above our bed. He got weak kneed and ran out the door. It was up to me to get that spider or we weren't going to bed.  ;D ;D ;D..... After being down all day, the Albatross cam is finally back online and UQ is sitting on his nest as the sun sets in New Zealand.... a bench is a perfect idea, and you have Scott's tools and wood.  ;D .... old child's rocking chair. I bet you can find something in thrift shops. My mind's swirling with ideas. But, I like yours the best. That'll be a good winter project.

Tsk, I remember a few snowy Halloweens for our girls in Kansas... Hot cocoa with marshmellows and warming up in front of the fireplace, after a cold night of Trick or Treating...

Baz, Lil Bro has the best facial reactions  ;D... Lil Punkin is adorable, she looks more and more like her mom.  :-*

Clynn, 22 years is a long time for your HVAC.  ;D  I don't think we went that long in Kansas with our unit.... In the desert, your AC unit works almost year round some places. In Scottsdale, we had it on from middle February to October. That's a long stretch for a unit to run. Car batteries last maybe 2 to 3 years in Arizona. You hope for 3 or 4. So, here in Payson going more than 10 years with one unit is amazing to me. But, I'll take it  ;D ... awww I know quite a few pitties who love their cat buddies.... love the Black Eagle Juvie's bloomers  ;D

Hi Puff, thanks for info I'll tell Mike, it's great to know that assistance is available. But he won't do it, unless he has no choice.... your experience at Germany airport was terrible. Thanks again.  :)

Lisa, Where would you move to? Closer to Jeff's work or near Sydney or your mama? Or just get away from the bridge  ;D

Tsk, A great cast in Poirot's "Hallowe'en Party" David Suchet is my favorite Poirot.

Eagles, I wore jeans, long sleeve shirt and lots of sprays of Deep Wood. And I was hot LOL! I emptied one planter box of perennials. I'll do another tomorrow... Congrats on your mom's car sale! Another thing checked off the list... How is she?

{{{Tig}}} 32 stairs, rest easy tonight  :(

Oldguy, great VW cake for Eagles! A good Saturday night at cards.... Maru doesn't look like he's in the party mood with the hat on. LOL! Thanks for videos.... Bob Wood was a great guitar player. Enjoyed it.

Good night!

Prayers for Lahaina, Maui, Morocco

So dang cute!...dog invites all his stuffed toy friends to eat with him..

Lani - oh you have one of those in your house as well!....Mike I mean....
Chris explores the house for bugs every night before he goes to bed...true OCD, not just that statement.
I kill them.
BTW, my sis suggested putting large walnuts in the shell near windows etc (points of entry) and we've done it and it seems to help. Besides my poofing insecticide around the foundation of the house.

I didn't know UQ was that much younger than Manaaki...we should have some time left then to watch...thanks.

I like your idea better!..buy something at a thrift store to put the very heavy cat on...it may be even 20 pounds..I know if it landed on your foot it would break a bone so maybe my bench idea isn't so good..the red box has wooden lips around the top to prevent it from being knocked over...just didn't prevent micers from finding an entrance point!

Morning all...heating up around here...watering, walking, and errand running today.

Eagles4 - yes I think I did good in the garage...I can now with heavy coat on etc. open the driver's side door and walk around it more easily...I have a small garage and a relatively large SUV.....Scott's Lincoln Navigator would not fit in it. BTW your DeLorean is fabulous.

Good Morning Beakers

tsk;D ;D I will tell Jeff that!

kb - There ya go....all good ideas for kitty.

E4E - Jeff travels the bridge to work every day...25 miles across and back.  We live in a rural area...most call it the simple life over here.  No crime, barely any car accidents, but also not alot of shopping, no hospitals...etc.

karen - I would love to move across the bridge, so we don't have to deal with it, when we want to go somewhere on the weekends.  You are right, our location is great except for the things you mentioned.  We go across the bridge for all that.

oldguy - Yay on your card win!!  Glad to hear you are having some good weather.  Thanks for the videos.

Lani - Thanks for the Royal video of UQ. Gorgeous good night pic.  When Jeff retires, he would like to move out of MD.  MD is not a great state to live in for a retiree, as they tax you to death on your retirement check.  He has always talked about PA, DE, FL or NC.  We will see....lol

Good Morning Beakers!

Lani, I knew you would say that Mike would never ask for help at the airport unless he absolutely had to! He is from the old school, he takes great pride in being able to take care of himself and his family. But at least he is flying now instead of driving, that's one win you have! Wonderful to hear that we will be able to see UQ for a little while longer! Didn't know he was that much younger than Manaaki, he just isn't ready yet. Someone has to be last! ;D

oldguy, congrats on the car game wins! Cute seeing Miri, Hana and Maru on catnip!

E4E, you and Kris have a VW bus too?  You are classy people!  How fun! Nothing like a quick sale of Mom's car!

kb, love the video of the little dog sharing his dinner with all his friends! And he sure has a lot of friends!

tig, ugh, 32 steps UP. I would have to take a few sits!

Lisa, you live in a beautiful place, it will be a tough decision!  I would love to live in a small town, but you have to consider a lot of things. The closest hospital to my Mom is 15 miles away and it's what is considered a rural hospital. She travels nearly 60 miles for some of her doctor appointments with specialists. You could get closer to that little sweetie with the beautiful eyes!

tsk, you have no idea all of the garage stuff Ed has picked up over the years. Including pounds and pounds of nails and screws. Yesterday I noticed a BIG Army colored something sitting in front of the washing machine. I said 'is that a sleeping bag? He said yes, so I asked him why he bought it. 'For when we go camping.' We haven't gone camping since we got Erin in 1992.

I am late this morning, slept a little later...but where is Phyl?  Ah, you posted  just as I was finishing my post! Love Lucy and Ethel!

Lovely close-up of John and Julian Lennon in Kenwood, photograph taken by Henry Grossman, late March 1965.

Quick he's getting away...

Decreasing clouds - currently 57 - high 67

Lani - Good for you in emptying a box of perennials - and I bet you did get hot, but good to be covered up out there!   My mom is doing pretty good - thank you!

Kb - Cute vid of doggie & his toys - and he always seems to bring a different toy! ;D   We spray around the foundation of the house every so often for spiders and it really does help keep them away and out of the house.    So nice you have more room to walk around your garage! :)     Thank you - I will tell Kris and I know he says 'thank you'! 8)

LisaG - I didn't know that Jeff has to travel that bridge to work everyday.  I can definitely see why you would like to move.

Tsk - Like what you said to LisaG to let Jeff know that the Beak took a vote!! Lol  ;D

Phyl - My mom will set some of the money into her checking acct. :)   Like the 'Lucy' pic!

Clynn - Yes, we bought a '77 vw bus in 2012.  Kris has pretty much kept it original and made necessary improvements.  We love our bus!     Ed bought a sleeping bag for when you guys go camping?! So funny!! Lol!! ;D ;D     Love the pic of John & Julian Lennon.     Like the turtle - actually that turtle looks about the same size as our neighbor's! :)

Tig - Glad you were able to take the stairs, but what if someone couldn't do it?!  Safe travels and happy you guys have had a fun trip  8) :)

Beakers have a nice day  :)

Woot, woot!

I worked up the nerve to check on red box....used a crowbar to take the top off which didn't completely seal it anyway...
dumped the mouse nest, cleaned it out, sprayed for bugs and leaving it outside to dry now...I hosed the friggin daylight out of it yesterday to make all the mice jump for their lives!
I will either make a new top that is more secure or tip it over, or use something else.
Now I can put it in the garage and see what moves me next year....
Just happy to have tackled that!

kb you just sort of have to hop your way on up and down.
It's actually pretty easy to get in/out of the pop tops upper bunk.

Bearstudy-  It was a good day with no sharp rifle shots, only a couple shotgun blasts with ruffed grouse season now open.

Jani, Cubs, and Birds Being Chased - UPDATE September 18, 2023
https://www.bearstudy.org/updates/daily-updates/4810-jani-cubs-and-birds-being-chased-update-september-18-2023.html

Jaci, Jethro, and Jani

A quick favorite after twelve years of not seeing or recognizing her is Jani, Braveheart’s daughter of 2011. When we first saw her here 2-3 weeks ago, she remembered the program and readily accepted food from Lorie’s hand. Her two small cubs, Jaci (female) and Jethro (male) also have trusting personalities. A couple days ago, they posed for a family ID picture with Jaci on the left, Jethro in the middle, and Jani to the right at the base of the cubs’ favorite white pine with their food pile at the base. It’s a food pile that disappears fast with the help of a dozen mallards that fly in or follow their duck path up from the lake a couple times a day. Also sharing the food is a flock of a couple hundred common grackles that immediately leave if the two juvenile sharp-shinned hawks are seen. In that case, the sharp-shins turn to blue jays that take refuge in the dense branches of a dead balsam fir tree that I’ve let stand for that purpose some 25 years. With the hundreds of chases by sharp-shinned hawks I’ve seen during their spring and fall migrations, I can’t remember seeing a single capture.

Good morning Beakers!  ;D
Morning Lilbro, Blschue, Lori, Clynn, Tsk, Lisa, Karen, Oldguy, Puff, Eagles, Kb, Tig, Baz, Phyl, Peep, Jaspurr, Pink, Jilltosa, BL, Eburg, Weasel, Ezee, Bggolden, T40, ssrl, Maxie, Nrstooge, Omasawyer, Paulie, jicaji, LB, and All!

It was a cold walk this morning, 48 degrees high will be 82 today.  :)

BL, thanks for video ... cool!

Eagles, Gorgeous VW! It's perfect, love the interior!

Tig, safe travels  :)

{{{Clynn}}} you get Mike  ;D... midwestern stock, no way would he ask for help unless he absolutely needed it. And then he would be embarrassed.... I didn't know UQ was ten days younger too... that makes a lot of sense. Best be confident, then end up stranded and rangers would have to rescue him.   Ed! LOL! Well, you've got camping to look forward to.  ;D... nice pic of the Lennons... oh no, turtle tracks. LOL!

Phyl, Like Lucy I need a sip of coffee before I head out the door with Sadie. I give Sadie a tsp of peanut butter on a doggie cookie in her Kong at the same time too. She's snacking while I'm sipping my coffee and then off we go. Of course, both cats were fed first and Mike's breakfast been set out....

Tsk, a lovely fall day for you.  :)

Lisa, you have time and lovely choices from which to pic for your retirement forever home.  :)

Kb, Sweet pup sharing his food with his toys. LOL! I saw the other one trying to get its shawl off.  ;D ... love the porpoises.... red box is clean and ready for another season.

Here's the spider: giant crab spider, cane spider, Pantropical huntsman spider

Their bodies grow to around an inch (2.8cm) with a leg span of up to 5 inches (12cm). The female body is larger than the male, but males have longer legs. The females have a tan band, which encircles the carapace, while males have a cream band. The males also have a dark stripe on their abdomen and a pale area just behind the eyes. These spiders are excellent at eradicating pest insects, especially cockroaches. They are fast with strong jaws and hunt their prey rather than relying on a web. They are common in homes, sheds, and barns where they hunt at night.
