Bearstudy - Lily’s Descendants up by Two With More in the Making - UPDATE May 31, 2023Yesterday, Lily’s 4-year-old daughter Kaiya was seen with two little cubs of sexes still unknown. The same people also reported that Lily is paired with Loppy. The day before that, Loppy spent hours scent-marking an area by stomp-walking and rubbing his back, neck, and crown on tree after tree. Loppy appears to be ready to mix it up with any competitors as he has in the past with the battle scars and shortened, loppy ears to prove it. Other than that, he is a gentle bear we are always happy to see. More as we know it.

What had happened Wednesday was a moving company from Illinois that Aly had a signed agreement with had changed the amount owed the minute the driver walked into our garage. Aly had a signed agreement for 400 cubic feet of items to be picked up and stored for 30 days if she didn't have a place to live. Aly had given them a deposit of 1400 in advance. The other half was due when they picked up the items. Aly didn't have time to check out this company for complaints, and she didn't share with us what company she chose.
1. They were supposed to arrive between 9-10am, they didn't show up until 4:45pm Weds (they had canceled coming Tuesday), so Aly left that day. Our gated community closes their gates to vendors at 5pm. The company said it would be less than an hour of work and they should be out.
2. 400 cubic feet is what Aly had agreed to. The driver came in the garage and said it was 800 cubic feet. Mike said absolutely not. Mike agreed there might be almost 500 cubic feet, but not double.
3. Aly had left a small bookcase in the lower area of the home for them to take as well. They were going to charge $$ for each step coming and going with the bookcase. I told them to leave it.
4. The company's crew of 4 men started wrapping items and packing truck, and the whole time the driver is calling the main office and telling them it will cost triple $$$$ to pack the items. Mike is also contacting main office in Illinois via email/phone disputing the driver. Then driver said, well then we should leave some things here.... and here we go, what should be left.
5. During this time Aly is driving, she's in CA now and she's driving through a few hail/rain storms with flood warnings. We're trying to reach her to see what items can be left behind. I should tell you that Aly's car had battery trouble when she woke up that morning outside of Vegas, and AAA came out to jump start the battery....
6. While Mike's going back and forth with the company, the driver is saying this furniture must stay, I'm trying to be logical about this process, thinking of only Aly's immediate needs. Then the driving picks up an antique table and breaks the top from the legs.
I left to have Mike deal with it. I was upset and needed to find a moment to be the peacemaker in all of this.
7. Mike comes into our home from the garage and says "they're crooks" the driver is following him into the home and he's talking to his boss on his cell and he's saying "I say leave it all here!"
. I've never seen Mike angry, he's usually the calm level headed one... he had lost it. The driver is shouting on his cell phone in front of Mike too.
In the end the company boss and Mike agreed to 485 cubic feet, 85 cubic feet more than what Aly signed up for, not the 800 that the driver said. But, I had them leave Aly's kitchen table, small couch, file/coffee table and 2 bookcases. It ended up costing Aly another $1400 and another $1400 if she stores for a month. So, she's frantically trying to find someplace now, so she doesn't have to pay for storage.
Our community security guy had driven up and parked at 6:00pm because they hadn't left yet. Mike felt it was good to have them there because of the dispute. It wasn't until after 7pm that a final price was agreed upon and Mike filled in Aly's check. And security had made sure they were off the property.
After they left I took Sadie for a walk to calm down... We all needed some time to get over what happened. Mike went to bed. Aly and Dewey had settled into a motel in Susanville, CA. She was in tears and felt bad about the whole situation. I tried to calm her down and said it was okay... I reorganized the garage with Aly's items so that Mike could bring his car in again. I made Shannon the Strawberry Ice box cake, showered and then sat down to say good night to the Beak. "Whatta Day"
Now it's Friday, Aly hasn't heard from the movers. She's busy looking for a place asap even if it's a temp thing, she starts work on Monday. Her new boss and wife have been very supportive and trying to help her find a place too.... We're just waiting for what's next....
Thanks for being here, my dear Beak family, I'll be back.
