Good Morning Beakers!

Phyl, the 365 is beautiful, love the eagle soaring in the beginning...  hugs for Sweet Maggie, hope she is feeling better soon. Maybe just a stool or something by your bed that would shorten the distance she has to jump? I had to do that for Honey, she would jump from the bed to the stool to the floor. We are having 67 today with rain off and on all day. That pain med ise what our vet gives after dental procedure when teeth have been pulled. Never had any problems with it, Maggie will be good... Saving the Salem Witch Trials to read a bit later, always found that subject interesting.

Lani, Max and Emma had very different personalities and they were also litter mates. Just like kids in the same family, they can all be so very different! Sweet that Milo is a chatterbox and sleeps by your head! Then I have Turdbutt (Harley), who has become so very picky with his food. I buy the expensive prescription food and throw most of it away. He does eat the dry though, I guess when he is starving. But at 15 pounds he doesn't look like he is a bit starving! We are planning on getting a kitten when I get home from the Dalloas trip!

E4E, we sill be having some showers today, they say we need it. I am glad because they aerated the lawn yesterday and rain will be good for that!

karen, you can't keep a cat from jumping from high places!  :o  Good for you and the walking, it will make you stronger!  And shame on those stores for not keeping the electric carts in good working order!

tsk, what a compromise you and Tim have for 'burial'!  We opted for cremation, interment at the Veteran's Cemetery in Adel, IA. All of my cat's ashes will go with me, in the ground at the cemetery. We always cook our salmon on the grill with the rosemary and garlic seasoning.  I always get the skinless, don't like messing with the skin. I don't like waking up at 3:30 with my mind racing, hard to get back to sleep...sometimes just can't!

Wild Heart Ranch - So many random, breathtaking moments around here💚 (vulture patient)

Raptor Resource Project
Welcome back! We'll start streaming the Decorah and Decorah North nests again on Saturday, October 14th! Join us on the Decorah channel for a celebratory chat starting at noon, and on the Decorah North channel for a celebratory chat starting at six pm central!
In the meantime, a here's a little peak at the Norths, who have been busy with nestorations, and at one of the Decorah Eagles - HM, perhaps? - who have been putting off nestorations for a little R&R during our lovely long fall. We'll see you on the nest Saturday - and hopefully the eagles will join us too!

Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away. ~ Unknown

Eagles, Now, I'm telling Milo to hush! LOL!! He starts chattering if I move in the middle of the night. FOOD it's always on his mind.  ::)

Clynn, Out of all of the cats we have rescued, Milo and Norman are the pickiest cats when it comes to their food. Maybe Harley can help pick the kitten too.  ;D ... beautiful capture from WHR... wonderful to see pics from Decorah North. I pray their nest will be safe this year. 🙏🏽

Tsk, I tried listening to meditation music on my airpods and had nightmares. Not to mention losing my airpods in my sleep only to find Milo or Norman had taken them out to the hallway. Thank goodness for the Find My app on my iphone.

Kb, LOL!  ;D

Thanks to everyone  who expressed  their concern / well wishes for Maggie.   :-*

KB House of Horrors---a hoot!

Tsk be interesting to know the amount of rain you get.  I've only seen 1 eagle in person and close---it was a golden eagle on my mon's clothesline pole.  I had
gone out to put kitchen trash  in bin. And there it was!     Still waiting to see a Bald Eagle :)

CLynn luv the autumns today.  I gave her 'some' Buprenex. I say some as my lil old lady got wise real fast!   And, my hands aren't as steady as once were.  ::)
She's been doing well this AM.  I'll give a 'step up' another try though.  Another kitty for Harley  :)
Muchas gracias para 'Wild Heart Ranch '  y  Raptor Resource Project   con la mano y novedades... fotos de Decorah North ,  Decorah Eagles.     Boy. Oh Boy! Gonna be fun come 10-14-24 with all that 'streaming'  ;D

Lisa enjoyed the autumn cafe from this AM. How cool 'Fat Bear Week' has gotten so popular with the media.

Karen so happy you'll  have help more frequently during the week. Walking is always good for the body / heart

E4E enjoyed your 'Pumpkin patch' this AM.   Tks for concern for Maggie

Wild Heart Ranch - Happy birthday to our Dan!
What does every rescue need? A Dan. Someone to work diligently behind the scenes without any desire for recognition or praise, fixing what is broken, tending to the needy and afraid, stepping  first in line for the difficult and dangerous, listening intently and guiding those who are struggling within the team, and connecting to those who need a connection to feel included to succeed.
His hands are always gentle. His heart is always soft. His words are always true (when he's not being a smart a$$) and his actions are only motivated by his unwavering desire to make the world a better place for any individual, animal or person, who feels alone in their struggle.
My wish for any mission who is doing all the right things for the right reasons is that you also are blessed to have such a human in your brigade, and if you don't, may one find you the way he found me, when I needed him the most and when Wild Heart needed him to save me.
Happy Birthday to my partner, my miracle and the love of my life. Every word is true, bias-certainly, but all truth. The world desperately needs more Dans. Period. Annette

Lani, I hope Mike has good luck with the new printer! My new one is doing great! Honey was picky too, but Max and Emma weren't! Funny that Milo chatters at you when you move in bed! At least he is not attacking your feet!

Phyl, looks like Grazer is the winner for sure!

E4E, out bit of rain was not very much this morning, maybe more later...

Lisa, I think cat people almost always get another cat, same with dog people! I am hoping that Harley will take to a kitten easier than a grown cat!

Adorable and fluffy !  Tanganyika Wildlife Park celebrates the birth of three black leopard cubs

CLYNN   Cute pumpkin tree.  WHAAAT? a kitten?    Good goin'   This will be fun  ;D      When is the trip again?
Cool vulture  :o     What a loving hug for Dan  :-*

PHYL  Also thought 365 was a nice surprise hearing the squee even before eagle appears  ;)  Congrats to Grazer   Sleep tight!    Where are Eagles likely to nest in the Nashville area - I'd have to go to my map to find the rivers and lakes.  I"ll likely never see a golden eagle up close. I just Googled   Where can I see bald eagles in Nashville?
Reelfoot State Park provides daily, guided bus tours of Bald Eagle concentration during the winter months, when eagles can be found on many Tennessee lakes. Call 1-800-250-8617 (toll-free) for infor- mation and/or reservations.

EAGLES   Yes pretty soon to be getting the puzzles out  ;) ;)  Probably after Thanksgiving  :-\

LANI  Love this AM pic - Always forget it from year to year.    LOL  My meditation music is listening to the planes flying over   ::) ::)

Finally got outside to feed my feathered friends.  They've been pecking morse code message on the glass --- Food, we need food.  Yesterday, water day, today seed day.  Cleaned and filled the water areas, got the fountain to running again, still not replugged up today  :D  glad to see that.  I thought I'd cover the outdoor chores today since we're getting nothing but dire forecasts until next week Tuesday?

Only because my sched has been crazy,  I had to take the time to check the rain gauge.  Tsk is always more efficient on readings.  Well, I emptied it last week (Sunday) which was less than 1/4" for how long and when I don't know.  Than Monday because they were also promising rain/drizzle I also turned off the sprinkler system.  Last week new total left 4" in the tube.  Did we really have that much rain last week tsk ?  I must have slept through it.  We'll see how accurate they are for this week.

Traffic backed up at SWFL again today.  Simply don't remember seeing this any other year.  Maybe construction?

Voting is over in Katmai National Park & Preserve’s annual Fat Bear Week contest, in which the public picks from 12 big ‘n’ bulky bears in an online brackets-style tournament.

The 2023 winner is a defensive mama bear who has successfully raised two litters of cubs and who “often preemptively confronts and attacks much larger bears — even large and dominant adult males,” according to the National Park Service.

Her name is 128 Grazer, and she blew her final competitor – 32 Chunk – straight out of the salmon-filled waters they both like to fish. Grazer received 108,321 votes to Chunk’s 23,134 votes, according to Explore.org, which tabulates the online contest for the NPS.

128 Grazer was sporting an impressively portly body on September 14, 2023.

Grazer was first identified as one the bears dining in Katmai’s Brooks River in 2005 as young cub. “Since then, she’s become one of the best anglers at Brooks River. She can fish successfully in many locations,” the Park Service says.

The year, Grazer was flying solo with no cubs to protect, but the other bears remembered her fierce devotion to her litter. They gave her a lot of leeway, allowing her prime spots and opportunities to fatten up on salmon.

The public apparently took notice and delivered her a huge win.

Grazer’s competition in the final round was Chunk, an up-and-comer with an “enigmatic” history with other bears.

The male was first identified in 2007 as “an independent, chunky-looking 2.5-year-old bear.” He sometimes played with other bears or would patiently wait to scavenge leftover salmon. He was often unwilling to challenge other bears for top feeding spots, though.

Chunk got more assertive in 2023, the NPS said, and it really paid off. Even Bear 747 – the 2022 Fat Bear Week champ – yielded fishing spots and salmon to him. It was enough to get him a low-hanging belly and a spot in the final round.

Meanwhile, Bear 747 was eliminated in his first round of play this year, showing again no bear can rest on his or her feasting laurels. With winter hibernation looming, it’s truly a bear-eat-bear world out there.

32 Chunk shows off his fat form on September 17, 2023.
Only within the moment of time represented by the present century has one species -- man -- acquired significant power to alter the nature of the world.

E4E - Sounds like you are having some nice temps like us.

Lani - Cute pup in the Halloween costume.  Lol, aww the kiwi reaction!

Phyl - Wow, Grazer won by a landslide.  I was just looking at my TWC app on phone, and they event mentioned Fat Beat Week.

Baz - Waving to ya  :)

Clynn - I hope all turns out well with Harley, and the new kitten.  Black leopard cubs are too cute.

Tsk - How sad about the two eaglets having their tree cut down.

Tig - Tell us what you had for your German meal. 😊

T40 - Thanks for the Fat Bear summary.

Have a good night, everyone!
