LORI, LISA, T40, and so many others thanks for the pics, vids, and gifs. All that rabbit fur would have made a comfy lining for the nest bowl just before the storm hit, followed by today's winds. Fortunately, eagle parents know how to keep their babies warm. I noticed in the de-furring vid that DH2 had a nice, full crop. Calories on the inside must add warmth. Our newbie parents have surely been tested: a dead hatchling, the learning curve for feeding a tiny beak, high winds, a snow storm with more high winds, and a hungry intruder. They are doing well so far and will figure out how to meet the challenges ahead. DH2 is a lucky kid.

Ginger, thanks for the bird ID from the weekend. Add that female wood duck to the menu at N1 this year.   :P

Lilbirdz, you mentioned a hungry intruder at N1.  I totally missed that; what and when?   :)

This little eagle is thriving under the attentive care of HM and HD.  This evening DH2 is out of the egg cup and moving better, looking alert to what's going on with the adults, eating bigger bits of fish & rabbit offered by the parents.  But at 10 days old it's too early for thermo-regulation, true?

They can regulate their own temp at about 2 weeks, so DH2 has a few more days to go. Not to worry, looks like HM & HD have that feeding & incubating thing figured out 😉

Murphy, a bald eagle at a bird sanctuary in Missouri, had been taking care of a rock. His keepers did not have the heart to separate them. Then when a orphaned eaglet needed a dad, Murphy was ready to step up. https://nyti.ms/41xJgDv

Glad to see the story about Murphy and the eaglet. It has been all over our local news. The Wild Bird Sanctuary is close to St. Louis. I might go visit this weekend.

The Yoda moniker works for me!  Do we know if the "real Yoda" is a he or a she??
